Author Bio:
The thunderstorm blonde had sworn she would never set foot in Redford Falls again. So, what was she doing here, in the middle of a blizzard? Sighing, he reached inside the car. “What are you doing?” She raised a shaky hand. “Saving your butt.” He slipped an arm around her waist and pulled her close. She slid out of his hold and landed in a heap at his boots. “You dropped me on purpose!” “What? Why would I do that?” “Payback. For the water—” He hoisted her upright, this time holding her firmly. “I’m quite capable of standing.” She shoved at his chest. The combination of a squirming woman and a furious wind knocked them both off balance. Andrew toppled backward, and Blondie landed on top of him with a thud. She scrambled to stand, using him as leverage and forcing him deeper into the snow. “I can walk on my own.” She stumbled. He glanced at her boots. “Not in those. Who wears ankle boots with needle-thin heels in a blizzard?” Gusts of wind stung his cheeks like icy slaps. “I’ve had enough of this storm. You have two choices. Stay here and freeze. Or let me help you to the truck.” #WintersKiss #RedfordFallsSeries #SmallTownRomance #ContemporaryRomance #RomCom
I dipped my brush into a puddle of blue paint and added depth to the shadows cast by the moon. “Could Mason love me with more depth than I put in my paintings?” Careful not to over-exert myself, I set my brush aside and changed into pajamas.
As I grabbed a small water from my mini-fridge, the door creaked open, and I jumped. Dad stood in the doorway; his brow furrowed with concern. His eyes flickered over my painting before meeting mine, as if he could read my thoughts.
“You’ve been painting a lot of dark landscapes lately,” he said. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
I sighed, unscrewing the cap and taking a sip of water. “I’m fine, Dad. Really.”
“Your medication…” he started.
“Already took it.”
“Sweetheart,” —his frown deepened even as he used the nickname only he was allowed to call me— “I just want you to be safe.”
“I know, Dad. But I can’t live like this forever.”
“What do you mean?” His voice was strained. He didn’t want to offend me, but I could tell he was worried.
“Living under your watchful eye,” I said, my voice barely audible. “I want to move out. You and Mom were my age when you bought your own place.”
“Absolutely not!” His face paled. “You need someone to take care of you. What if you have a seizure when you’re alone?” Then he pointed to my trembling hand at my side. “See, someone’s gotta keep an eye on you!”
“I need some independence. I need to try and live as normal a life as possible,” I replied, hiding my hand.
He paced the room, hands clenched into fists. “I just don’t want anything to happen to you, Jessica. You’re all I have left.”
“Nothing will happen,” I mumbled, trying to quell my own fears about living on my own. “I’ll be careful. And besides, you’ve taught me how to manage it, right?”
“Right.”
“Then trust me, Dad.” My heart ached as I saw the worry etched in his face.
“Okay,” he finally said, though I could tell it pained him. “We can talk about it more later. But for now, promise me you’ll always be careful.”
“I promise.”
“Oh, and you left this downstairs.” He handed me the journal.
“Thanks.” I took it and set it on top of the stack of notebooks on my desk. Dad kissed my forehead and left the room.
A big gust of wind rocked the van and flung Jodie
hard against Joe. He pushed her off.
“Joe, it’s me, Jodie! Wake up, wake up!”
“Jodie, is that you?” He threw his arms around her
and buried his head in her chest.
She brushed his hair back from his sweating face.
“Take it easy, Joe. Take deep breaths. It’s okay. It’s
going to be okay.”
He stopped shaking and pulled back from her.
“What’s happening?”
“It’s the cyclone. Don’t you remember?”
Another huge gust shook the van and sent Jodie
sprawling on Joe’s bunk and into the wall. “Ow, that
hurt!” She picked herself up and rubbed her head.
The van rocked violently again. Joe and Jodie
grabbed for handholds.
“Quick, come into my bed with me, Joe. It will be
safer there.” Tripping and feeling their way along the
wall, the two made their way to the double bed and
clambered in.
Her breathing coming in short spasms, she lay on
her back and took deep breaths. The storm whined and
screeched about her, and the roof creaked and scraped.
“Oh, my god, the roof’s going to take off any minute!”
Joe’s arms enveloped her. “Hush, everything will
be all right. But will you be okay if we have to make a
run for it?”
“Yes.” She let out a sob. “But I like our chances
better in here than out there.”
Joe kissed her forehead. He pulled her closer and
they lay locked against each other while the storm
raged around them.

When they
first meet, sparks fly…but not the romantic kind…
Ella Westhoff is a marketing genius. But romance? Not her strong suit. So,
while she’s prepared to return to her small hometown and help her grandmother
successfully reopen her B&B, she will not fall for the grumpy landscaper on
the job—the one who so thoroughly annoyed her at first sight. That was the
plan, anyway…
Cooper Daniels isn’t cut out for love, either. His bitter divorce certainly
taught him that. One-night stands are all he’s willing to commit to these days.
Which means that even though he enjoys bantering with the brilliant Ella, he
knows he can’t be the kind of guy she deserves. No matter how much she makes
him wish he could be…
Somewhere between fresh starts and past hurts, business and pleasure, Ella and
Cooper might be able to claim a happily ever after. But only if they’re willing
to cross some lines along the way…

I write the
kind of romance novels that blend sweet and spicy into something deliciously
real - stories that'll warm your heart one minute and make you reach for a fan
the next. My characters are flawed souls who stumble their way to love with
enough emotional baggage to fill a cargo plane, but they're worth every messy
moment.
Life handed
me my own romance novel when I fell for an American military man while living
in Germany. Now I'm living my happily-ever-after in a cozy Kentucky town, where
my European roots tangle perfectly with Southern charm. You'll find me powered
by excessive amounts of coffee, testing ice cream flavors (strictly for
research purposes), and soaking up cuddles from my golden retrievers, Dakota
and Tucker.
