The Marriage Matrix by Joan Esser

The Marriage Matrix
by Joan Esser

Book Blurb:

Treating her search for a husband as a research project, socially inept Dr. Wanda Walling creates a marriage matrix listing the qualities she wants in a husband. All candidates will be evaluated by how many boxes are ticked off. Then Wanda meets handsome Detective Jack Pendleton, who excites and delights her, but doesn't meet any of her requirements, and he has a phobia about marriage.

Jack is enthralled by Wanda and wants her any way he can get her. Even though he is appalled that she is hubby hunting, he still wants to bed her. Can he convince her to have a fling with him when he doesn't check off any boxes in the matrix? Will Wanda be diverted from her goal by a sexy detective?

Excerpt:

Once they were seated at the opera, Wanda's awareness of the man next to her kept her attention off the opera. Though the music was good and the new tenor was superb, every whiff of his lime-scented aftershave sent her heartbeat speeding. Mentally giving herself a shake, she reminded herself that she was looking for a husband and he was definitely not a candidate. He had made that abundantly clear. Yet, she was here next to him, jumpy with nerves. What was the matter with her?

When the standing ovations quieted down and the performers took their final bow, Jack asked, "Would you like to stop for a bite to eat? I'm certainly hungry."

Her mind said, "No, no," but her head nodded, "Yes, yes."

Winter's Kiss by Darlene Fredette

Winter's Kiss
by Darlene Fredette

Blurb:

Her high heels flattened the snow, and his defenses didn’t stand a chance.

Danielle Lerato adores the ocean breezes of Victoria, the comfort of her curated routine, and a life that requires minimal interaction with snow boots. But when her company relocates to Redford Falls, with a population of unpredictable charm, she agrees to train her replacement with one intention: get in, get out, and never look back.

Andrew Bailey, a local restaurant owner with a fierce protective streak, doesn’t believe in second chances. Yet, Danielle’s fiery spirit, stubborn streak, and snow-fueled scowls shift his expectations and crack open the door to a future he never dared to imagine.

As chilly glares thaw into cozy glances and sarcastic banter flirts over shared cups of hot cocoa, Danielle suspects the town’s snowy landscape is warming more than her toes. Add in the legendary matchmaker, Thumper, stirring Redford Falls into a romantic frenzy, and maybe this snowy wonderland isn’t a detour. Maybe it’s destiny.

Excerpt:

The thunderstorm blonde had sworn she would never set foot in Redford Falls again. So, what was she doing here, in the middle of a blizzard? Sighing, he reached inside the car. “What are you doing?” She raised a shaky hand. “Saving your butt.” He slipped an arm around her waist and pulled her close. She slid out of his hold and landed in a heap at his boots. “You dropped me on purpose!” “What? Why would I do that?” “Payback. For the water—” He hoisted her upright, this time holding her firmly. “I’m quite capable of standing.” She shoved at his chest. The combination of a squirming woman and a furious wind knocked them both off balance. Andrew toppled backward, and Blondie landed on top of him with a thud. She scrambled to stand, using him as leverage and forcing him deeper into the snow. “I can walk on my own.” She stumbled. He glanced at her boots. “Not in those. Who wears ankle boots with needle-thin heels in a blizzard?” Gusts of wind stung his cheeks like icy slaps. “I’ve had enough of this storm. You have two choices. Stay here and freeze. Or let me help you to the truck.” #WintersKiss #RedfordFallsSeries #SmallTownRomance #ContemporaryRomance #RomCom

Men in Books Aren't Better by Amanda Nelson and Lisa-Marie Potter

Men in Books Aren't Better
by Amanda Nelson and Lisa-Marie Potter

Blurb:

Pressured by her looming deadline and an unfinished romance manuscript, author Molly Covington applies her immersive research skills and goes all in. She hires a male companion for inspiration during three days of research in Las Vegas.

Enter sexy, confident Jared Washington—an extreme sports enthusiast and relationship skeptic who moonlights as a Plus One male companion. Molly’s contract puts him within arm’s reach of buying his own business and making his dreams come true.

The chemistry between her and Jared is surprisingly easy. Before their Vegas rendezvous comes to an end, one of them will need to lay all their cards on the table to discover if they’ll be lucky in love.

Excerpt:

Searching for an escort was not the same as searching for porn. At least, that’s what I kept telling myself as I hit enter on my keyboard. Holding my breath, I waited as the list of results—Elite Males, Premium Gigolos, Stags R Us—populated my laptop screen. I perched on the edge of my black leather desk chair in my home office overlooking the Seattle harbor. All the entries sounded like adult films. Each one screamed precisely what to expect, which made choosing any one in particular impossible. With one eye shut and a tentative finger, I clicked on the top entry, Elite Males. An obscene amount of oiled flesh filled most of my monitor—a close-up photo of a smooth-chested guy flexing his defined muscles while lying on his back. The shot highlighted his torso and prominent tattoos, capturing only his lips and chin; he was clean-shaven, and his jaw was also, for some reason, shiny. Ugh! Too much! The home page wasn’t quite as bad as I’d expected but still cringe-worthy: almost laughable. The guy in the image provided what was supposed to be an enticing, yet exaggerated, display, which I assumed—combined with his other “talents” listed in the reviews that read like porn—must have earned him his five-star rating. To each his own. The parts of the man I could see on my screen were considered conventionally hot. However, after reading the list of customers’ erotic comments, I swallowed back the bitter tang filling my mouth. I felt dirty just looking at his image—and desperate. But I guess, for all intents and purposes, I was. My deadline from my publisher loomed overhead, and I had no manuscript to submit. My stomach rolled. “It’s been a year, Molly,” Renee had said last week after huffing into the phone. “The editors expect something after that advance. Your reputation will only buy you so much time. Can you at least give me the first fifty pages so I can appease them? Try to barter an extension?” Picturing Renee’s scowl was easy—an otherwise non-existent crinkle above the bridge of her button nose, with her perpetual bold lips in full pout mode. A cold sweat broke out across my forehead. “I’ll get you something soon. I promise.”

Trembles of the Heart by Frankie Sutton

Trembles of the Heart
by Frankie Sutton

Blurb

How far would you go to keep a secret? For Jessica Everhart, the answer is simple: to the end. That is, until a seizure exposes her two biggest secrets— Her epilepsy and the feelings she had for her best friend.

How far would you be willing to go for true love? For Mason Harris, the answer is simple: everything. When his crush reveals her feelings, he tells her he’s always felt the same.

However, they soon face a new challenge when Mason accepts mentorship from a doctor who has a connection to Jessica’s past. One that can destroy everything.

 Excerpt

I dipped my brush into a puddle of blue paint and added depth to the shadows cast by the moon. “Could Mason love me with more depth than I put in my paintings?” Careful not to over-exert myself, I set my brush aside and changed into pajamas.

As I grabbed a small water from my mini-fridge, the door creaked open, and I jumped. Dad stood in the doorway; his brow furrowed with concern. His eyes flickered over my painting before meeting mine, as if he could read my thoughts.

“You’ve been painting a lot of dark landscapes lately,” he said. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

I sighed, unscrewing the cap and taking a sip of water. “I’m fine, Dad. Really.”

“Your medication…” he started.

“Already took it.”

“Sweetheart,” —his frown deepened even as he used the nickname only he was allowed to call me— “I just want you to be safe.”

“I know, Dad. But I can’t live like this forever.”

“What do you mean?” His voice was strained. He didn’t want to offend me, but I could tell he was worried.

“Living under your watchful eye,” I said, my voice barely audible. “I want to move out. You and Mom were my age when you bought your own place.”

“Absolutely not!” His face paled. “You need someone to take care of you. What if you have a seizure when you’re alone?” Then he pointed to my trembling hand at my side. “See, someone’s gotta keep an eye on you!”

“I need some independence. I need to try and live as normal a life as possible,” I replied, hiding my hand.

He paced the room, hands clenched into fists. “I just don’t want anything to happen to you, Jessica. You’re all I have left.”

“Nothing will happen,” I mumbled, trying to quell my own fears about living on my own. “I’ll be careful. And besides, you’ve taught me how to manage it, right?”

“Right.”

“Then trust me, Dad.” My heart ached as I saw the worry etched in his face.

“Okay,” he finally said, though I could tell it pained him. “We can talk about it more later. But for now, promise me you’ll always be careful.”

“I promise.”

“Oh, and you left this downstairs.” He handed me the journal.

“Thanks.” I took it and set it on top of the stack of notebooks on my desk. Dad kissed my forehead and left the room.

Terrabyte Security by Tena Stetler

Blurb:

Candle Bearclaw’s new security firm is growing by leaps and bounds. When her best friend’s husband, a high-profile software entrepreneur is kidnapped, she and her chief of police husband find themselves knee-deep in an international case.

The same day, an indigenous woman, Molly, pleads for Candle to take her convoluted case with identity theft overtones. Come to find out, Molly’s friend a Native American woman is missing and assumed kidnapped.

Law enforcement is all over both kidnappings until the police chief discovers the indigenous woman’s case is nearly invisible. Will either be found alive?

Excerpt:

The howling wind, lightning and thunder raged until well after midnight, keeping Molly awake. Finally, the storm subsided, and she fell asleep. A scratching, scuffling sound awakened her. She jerked up in bed and stared into the darkness outside her bedroom window. Was a person’s shadow moving outside?

She blinked, grabbed the cell phone Candle provided, and slid out of bed onto the floor crawling over to the window. The cell’s screen displayed two thirty a.m. Her finger hovered over Cayson’s number. Another thud and scratching sound, and she slapped her hand over her mouth to keep from squealing. The phone went skittering across the floor.

Then she saw it. A large branch cracked from the tree next to her window and hung down, the smaller branches brushing against the windowpane. She puffed out her cheeks and blew out a breath, got to her knees, and searched the darkened landscape then retrieved the phone.

Adrenalin still raced through her veins making sleep impossible as she crawled into bed. After tossing and turning for what seemed like hours, she gave up. She dressed in a turquoise blouse and pastel print long skirt, brushed her long raven hair, then put it up in a braid that fell nearly to her waist. Turning this way and that in front of the mirror, she nodded. That should do for office attire. She packed an additional pair of jeans in the event she was sent on assignment with Cayson later.

Before dawn, Molly paced around the kitchen floor. She made a peanut butter sandwich, added a bag of chips, a cola drink, and slipped it all into her insulated lunch box. Her nerves still a bit jangled, she made hot chocolate and toasted a bagel. The thin orange line on the horizon was a welcome precursor to sunrise. She nibbled on her bagel, sipped the hot chocolate, and enjoyed the first warm rays of sun through her kitchen window.

She was still debating telling Cayson, when his truck slowed and stopped in front of the house. A calm washed through her as he got out of the truck and sauntered up the path to the door. Instead of coming inside, he walked around the house. She waited for him to come in. When he didn’t right away, she went to the back door where she’d last seen him. “Whatcha doing out there?”

“Just checking things out. Quite a storm last night.” He returned to the door and stepped inside, pausing to look her over. “Wow, you look nice today. Not that I mean you usually don’t look nice— I removed that large tree branch before it does any damage to the siding or window.”

She smiled. “I’ll take the compliment. Storm was terrible, torrential downpour and lightning.” She related the events of the night and he stared incredulously at her.

“Why didn’t you call me?”

“For a broken tree branch?” She squared her shoulders.

“No. Because when I moved the broken tree limb, there were footprints outside your bedroom window. They lead across the property but were washed away the closer you got to the road.”

“Someone was here. It wasn’t my imagination playing tricks on me because of the storm.” She licked her lips nervously. “Someone knows I’m here,” she stammered.

“Now let’s not jump to conclusions, yet. Could have been teenagers. Maybe neighbors saw lights earlier, heard the tree crack, and came to investigate.”

“Oh, you’re good. But you know none of those scenarios are plausible. But thanks for trying to make me feel better.” Her face paled.

“How about we grab a couple of those bagels, pour the rest of the hot chocolate off the stove in a go cup, and head to the office? We’ll fill Candle and Miacoh in and see how they want to proceed. I’ve already told them about your spreadsheet. They want to discuss it with you.”

“I hope it will help.” She grabbed her jacket, bag, lunch box, and keys and followed Cayson out the door, stopping to set the alarm and lock the door.

“I’ll mention beefing up the security around the outside of the house to Miacoh. Add a few cameras. It’s a different world now than when that safe house was originally commissioned.”

The crisp mountain air was cooler than expected and she shrugged into her jacket before climbing into his truck.

Cayson remained outside the truck for a few minutes talking on his phone. When he opened the driver side door and hopped in, he glanced at her. “I filled Candle and Miacoh in on the events of last night. Miacoh authorized the new equipment to be installed at the safe house. But first, we have a short assignment.

Excerpt:

When she drove up the circle driveway, a chill shot up her spine, then a strange feeling came over her, almost like someone was watching. Reaching under the seat of her SUV, she pulled out her handgun, checked the weapon to make sure it was loaded, chambered a round, and tucked it in the back waistband of her jeans, covering it with her shirt and jacket. She backed out then drove the entire driveway more slowly, checking the perimeter. Nothing. The cell phone hadn't chirped to alert her of a breach, but she checked her outside surveillance cameras, then the ones inside her home anyway. Again nothing. She shrugged off the feeling and stepped out of her SUV. Gun drawn, she flicked off the safety and turned on the laser. It didn't hurt to be safe rather than sorry.

Peeking in the window, she saw the alarm keypad was still set and secure. Then she walked around the house, entered through the back door, closed and relocked it, deactivated the alarm. Nothing was out of place. Part of her wished she'd brought Terrabyte along. Though still young, the pups tracking ability was well-developed. Terra would know if someone were in or around the cabin since they left. Back to the wall, she moved carefully through each room, nothing. When she was sure the house was clear, she sat down at the computer, laying the gun next to it. Warning windows were popped up everywhere on the screen. Someone had tried to hack into her system but hadn't gotten very far. Closing out the windows one at a time until she found a message planted just under the first layer of security. That is what must have set off the warnings. Her throat went dry as she read the message. “Poking around where you don't belong is dangerous business. Carl's death was unfortunate but an accident. Leave it be or pay the consequences.”

Fingers posed over the keyboard. She started to X out of the message but stopped. If this was a disintegrating message, she would have no proof it ever existed. Taking out her cell phone, she took a picture of the screen. The handle on the front door jiggled. She grabbed her gun and jumped up, making her way to the front bay window.

Imprinted on the Heart by Terry Newman

Imprinted on the Heart
By Terry Newman

Blurb:

JJ Spritely, history professor and romance author, writes love stories, but her own happily ever after seems out of reach. She’s frustrated her most recent book is sitting in a warehouse instead of in the hands of her readers. And her relationship with her boyfriend has stalled. What else could possibly go wrong?

How about a return visit from Alex and Blake, the fictional characters from her yet-to-be-released book? They’ve jumped out of the pages of their book into JJ’s world before. They mean well, but they cause chaos wherever they go.

Kennedy King Cooper wants to propose to JJ, but his track record with this sort of thing isn’t good - and to further complicate matters, the new professor, Robert J. MacWhouton, is monopolizing JJ’s time. If he doesn’t ask her soon, he may lose her forever.

Alex and Blake are determined to give destiny a helping hand. They stand ready to do whatever it takes to help Kenn propose before a kilt-wearing romance hero wannabe sweeps her off her feet. If only they had a plan.

This time, it seems, no one is guaranteed a happily ever after.

Excerpt:

A blast of frigid air ran through the room. Someone had entered the Physics Café.

“Look at him.” Alex pointed in the direction of the person. Blake’s back was to the door, so he twisted to get a good look.

A backpack slung casually over his shoulder, the man wore a nineteen-twenties-era leather aviator cap, complete with goggles sitting atop the headgear. He also had a matching waist-length, leather jacket. He looked as if he had just stepped out of another era.

“He looks awfully familiar.” Alex kept an eye on him as he sauntered across the room.

Blake agreed. “Where could we have seen him before?” He untwisted his body as the man approached the counter. “Did we meet him the last time we were here? From the pep squad, perchance?”

“No, I don’t think so. Maybe from the history class we took that JJ and Kenn taught?” She pursed her lips. “Think, Blake. You know we know him.”

“Not from here.” Blake concentrated. “But I think we saw him—”

“Alex and Blake.” The man stood at their booth, a cup in his hand.

“Uhm…hi?” Alex glanced at Blake.

“Oh, Merlin.” Blake popped out of the booth and pumped the man’s free hand. “I didn’t recognize you right away.”

“Is it really you?” Alex cocked her head.

“Yes, it’s me. May I sit with you? I ordered.” He pulled his element number, 79Au out of the jacket pocket, as if he needed proof.

“But of course.” Blake returned to the bench and Merlin slid in next to him.

“Merlin?” Alex rubbed her chin. “Why are you dressed like that?”

“It’s my disguise.” He took off his cap and placed it on the bench between Blake and himself. He ran his hands through his curly hair, then shook it out. “That’s better. The cap messes with my hair.”

“May I ask why you chose the aviator look?” Blake’s eyes were trained on the cap. “I would think just wearing contemporary clothing would be enough of a disguise.”

“I’ve always liked this look.” He took a sip from the cup. “And I needed something eccentric enough that no one would even suspect I was a wizard.”

This was only Blake’s second visit to JJ’s world, but he didn’t think there was much chance of anyone thinking Merlin an authentic wizard. But he said nothing.

“My office is across the street. I thought we could rendezvous here for updates.”

“You mean that office?” Alex pointed to a storefront on the opposite side of the street. “The one that reads The ord herpa? What’s that?” The letters were in black on the large window.

Merlin’s face turned pink. “That’s supposed to read The Word Sherpa. I just haven’t finished painting. The other letters will be in red. I thought it would make it look professional.”

“What exactly is a word sherpa?” Alex asked.

“Let’s consider the original meaning of sherpa.” Blake sat up straighter. “It’s a member of a Tibetan people who live in the Himalayas in eastern Nepal. They act as guides and provide support for mountain climbers.” He raised a brow at Merlin, who nodded.

“From here, we can extrapolate that Merlin guides his clients through the mountainous, rugged terrain of words.”

“How beautiful.” Alex sighed.

“Something like that.” Merlin sipped from his cup. “I’m a freelance writer.”

“That’s what I said.” Blake’s British accent was pronounced. “A freelance writer.”

“You did, hon.” Alex reached over and patted his hand. “And you said it beautifully.”

“Here you go, Merlin.” Alvin appeared with a small plate of toast. “Are you sure this is how you want it?”

“Absolutely.” The toast was burnt. Most of it was black. “This brings back childhood memories. My mother made toast like this every morning.”

Alvin nodded and glanced at Blake, who shrugged.

“I didn’t know you knew Alex and Blake.” Alvin pushed his glasses up on his nose.

“We go way back,” Merlin said.

“Why yes,” Blake said. “Way back.”

“Alvin!” voices called from the other end of the café.

“Sounds like you’re in demand.” Blake waved to Ted and Simon behind the counter.

“No, they think it’s cute because of my name. You know the chipmunk cartoon and all. But I better go. Enjoy. I’ll be back with more coffee.”

Merlin bit into a slice of toast. His eyes shut as he chewed and he softly moaned. “Tastes divine.” He put it down and rubbed his hands together.

“Now, tell me, have you learned anything yet?”

“JJ expects Kenn to ask her to marry him.” Alex bounced in her seat.

“Good, that’s a good sign.” Merlin picked up another slice of toast. “Perhaps, headquarters was wrong. Everything looks like it’s going in the right direction.” He bit into the toast again. “Perfect.”

Blake didn’t know if the man was talking about the toast or JJ and Kenn.

Broome Enigma by Meryl Brown Tobin

Broome Enigma
by Meryl Brown Tobin

Blurb:

On a working holiday in Australia's cosmopolitan Outback town of Broome in 1986, Jodie, a young book designer and artist is open to romance and adventure.

At the holiday village where she is staying, she meets Joe, a young man who works there. Despite the strong attraction between them, the many unknowns about his earlier life keep them apart. To try to uncover his mysterious past, they travel to Perth and back to Broome and are drawn into not only bizarre but also dangerous situations.

Is Joe the person she thinks he is, or is he some alter ego? Can Jodie and Joe stop their relationship from developing until they have answers and know if he is free to love her?

 Excerpt:

A big gust of wind rocked the van and flung Jodie

hard against Joe. He pushed her off.

“Joe, it’s me, Jodie! Wake up, wake up!”

“Jodie, is that you?” He threw his arms around her

and buried his head in her chest.

She brushed his hair back from his sweating face.

“Take it easy, Joe. Take deep breaths. It’s okay. It’s

going to be okay.”

He stopped shaking and pulled back from her.

“What’s happening?”

“It’s the cyclone. Don’t you remember?”

Another huge gust shook the van and sent Jodie

sprawling on Joe’s bunk and into the wall. “Ow, that

hurt!” She picked herself up and rubbed her head.

The van rocked violently again. Joe and Jodie

grabbed for handholds.

“Quick, come into my bed with me, Joe. It will be

safer there.” Tripping and feeling their way along the

wall, the two made their way to the double bed and

clambered in.

Her breathing coming in short spasms, she lay on

her back and took deep breaths. The storm whined and

screeched about her, and the roof creaked and scraped.

“Oh, my god, the roof’s going to take off any minute!”

Joe’s arms enveloped her. “Hush, everything will

be all right. But will you be okay if we have to make a

run for it?”

“Yes.” She let out a sob. “But I like our chances

better in here than out there.”

Joe kissed her forehead. He pulled her closer and

they lay locked against each other while the storm

raged around them.

Ella

This, this… guy! I stalk out of the dining room, fuming.

Of all the people for Pippa to rent the carriage house to, it had to be him. And now he’s living right next door, invading my sanctuary, the space I’ve always considered mine.

Why did he have to ruin my hope of living in the carriage house? There must be plenty of places available for rent in town. I sigh, trying to let my frustration go because bitching and moaning won’t change a thing.

I’d spent countless sleepovers there with my best friend, trading secrets, and dreams. Later, losing myself in romance novels, I’d imagined my own epic love story. Yeah, well, that had been a big naïve fantasy. Most guys turn out to be jerks—like my ex—not some swoon-worthy hero who sets my body ablaze while cherishing my soul. That kind of guy only exists between the pages.

Now, another real-life example of an arrogant jerk stands right there in the dining room, pouring wine as if he owns the place. His broad frame fills the space like a quintessential guy’s guy. His large hands tell a different story. Hands that could build barn walls or something, not pouring wine with unexpected gentleness. Strength and softness, wrapped in those sexy, veiny forearms. If he’d be anyone else, I’d be hopelessly flustered.

Fine, the man’s hot enough to melt steel, but that's where my appreciation ends. His charm could strip paint of wood, and it's just about as healthy to be around. He might have fooled Pippa, but not me. And now we’re supposed to work together? Fricking perfect.

In the kitchen, I muster a smile. “Need a hand?” The lasagna’s rich scent fills the room, promising comfort.

Pippa, beaming as though she’s crafted a culinary masterpiece, hands me a tray bearing the night’s first course. In the center, a mason jar filled with her homemade ranch dressing takes the spotlight amid the salad greens and a basket of still-warm bread.

“Could you bring this in?”

Her warm smile tells me she’s missed me and is happy I’m home.

“Of course.” I won’t rain on her parade, so I nod and smile. One quick taste of the creamy dressing first, then the breadbasket joins the greens as I steady myself to face Mr. Arrogance Next Door.

“Thanks, darling.” Pippa smiles. “I’ll be right there.”

Yes, please, I pray silently. I don’t care to be alone for even one minute with that infuriating man. I let out an inaudible sigh, part frustration, part resignation.

“Alright,” I say, forcing a cheery tone. With no excuse to dodge McCocky, I carry the tray out of the kitchen.

I write the kind of romance novels that blend sweet and spicy into something deliciously real - stories that'll warm your heart one minute and make you reach for a fan the next. My characters are flawed souls who stumble their way to love with enough emotional baggage to fill a cargo plane, but they're worth every messy moment.

Life handed me my own romance novel when I fell for an American military man while living in Germany. Now I'm living my happily-ever-after in a cozy Kentucky town, where my European roots tangle perfectly with Southern charm. You'll find me powered by excessive amounts of coffee, testing ice cream flavors (strictly for research purposes), and soaking up cuddles from my golden retrievers, Dakota and Tucker.

Believing in You by Sharon C. Cooper

They’re opposites in every way, but they might just be the perfect match.

Believing In You

Priestly Family Series Book 1

by Sharon C. Cooper

Genre: Contemporary Romance

They’re opposites in every way, but they might just be the perfect match.

After a case of mistaken identity, riddled with betrayal, Harrison Grant is struggling to open himself up to other people again. He lost a part of himself while in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, and it seems impossible to move forward.

Enter Nyla Priestly. She’s a woman with a bubbly smile for everyone she meets and who always has a kind word to say. The jaded version of Harrison wants to doubt her personality is real. No one can be that happy all the time. Right?

Nyla has never been into the broody type. Yet something about Harrison makes her body crave him. Sure, he’s gorgeous and happens to be one of the sexiest saxophone players she’s ever met. But achieving her dream of owning Moody Days Jazz Club is top priority. She doesn’t have time to deal with a man. No matter how good he makes her feel.

As Harrison falls for Nyla and helps her fulfill her dreams, can her unceasing love be enough for him to trust again?

It didn’t make sense that she was fantasizing and sometimes daydreaming about the man. Why him? Why did her temporary boss make her want to touch him all over and jump his bones? Sure, it had been awhile since she’d been with a man, but it hadn’t been that damn long. And sure, he was handsome in a sexy, geek kind of way with an intelligence that was as attractive as the rest of him. However, he was uptight, standoffish, and a workaholic.

So not my type.

Even with those negatives, the sexual tension that vibed between her and Harrison Grant was hot enough to leave burn marks. It was a good thing that her assignment would soon be over. She didn’t know how much longer she could pretend she wasn’t seriously interested in him.

Then again, who was she kidding? The man was so far out of her league, there was no way he’d be interested in her. It didn’t matter anyway. He seemed like the type to never step out of line. No way would he help her act out some of the fantasies.

Nyla snorted at the thought and shoved her bag into the bottom desk drawer. No sense in daydreaming about someone she could never…

The door behind her burst open, and she jumped, her hand flying to her chest. “What in the…”

Harrison.

“I told you to always get the caller’s name and tell me before transferring them to my phone,” he ground out, his chest heaving as if he was about to blow a gasket at any moment.

Nyla should be concerned, especially since he had never raised his voice at her, but all she could do was stare at him. The man was too gorgeous for his own good, and the fire in his eyes only made him look that much hotter.

Even his black, wire-rimmed glasses didn’t detract from his handsomeness. Smooth deep-bronze skin, a thin mustache and goatee, and eyes that were so dark, they almost looked black, made up his perfect face. Then there was the black turtleneck he was wearing. It molded over his muscular upper body, and the black slacks had to be tailored specifically for him to look that good.

Yup. Too damn fine.

“Did you hear what I said?” he snapped, and that shook Nyla from her thoughts.

“I heard you,” she said, though she wasn’t positive that she’d heard everything. Ignoring his rant and scowl, she said, “Good morning, Sunshine. Can I get you some coffee? Tea? Or do you need something stronger, like a shot of tequila, to calm you down?”
