Blurb of NEW PRINTS IN OLD CALICO:
Amanda Bradshaw, a librarian from modern day New York City, is suddenly transported to Calico, a small 1880s era western town. Without warning, she becomes the new schoolmarm in Calico instead of a librarian. Bewildered by this sudden change in scene, she is befriended by the sheriff, Austen Riley, and a sympathetic saloon owner named Lil. Riley is a man with dark secrets and an axe to grind with rancher Matt Mallory, who turns Amanda's life inside out. Matt is handsome, determined to win her as his wife, but his shady reputation leaves a lot to be desired. Still, Amanda is attracted to him as they flirt and tease, argue and banter their way towards love.
As Matt, Amy, and Matt's young daughter, Molly, struggle to become a family, Marshall Riley plans to destroy Matt and claim Amy for his own. But how can Amy prove Matt’s innocence to the one man who wants him dead?
Excerpt of NEW PRINTS IN OLD CALICO:
“Here you are, Miss Bradshaw. I think you’ll like it here fine.” She crossed the room and pulled the lemon yellow and white checked curtains open, admitting a steady stream of sunshine into the room. “Yer bags are in the bedroom. I would’ve unpacked them for you, but seeings how you’ve come so far, I thought you might like to do that for yerself, to check if anything’s missing. Not that it would matter much, the freight coach only comes from Barstow once a week.”
Amanda dropped her handbag and gloves on the small oval table between the settee and chair. “I’m sure everything will be fine, Dory. This is a lovely room.”
“Just a few house rules. No gentlemen callers in your room after supper, don’t empty the chamber pot out yer window, and be on time for meals. I serve ’em promptly at seven, twelve and six. Don’t be late, ’cause I don’t serve stragglers.
“Now Miss Bradshaw, I hope I don’t need to remind you that you’re on the frontier now, there’ll be no fancy gents like in New York City. You need to be ’specially careful if yer out at night by yerself. Some of them miners can get frisky with such a pretty girl.”
“How did the schoolhouse burn down?”
The question seemed to catch Dory off guard. She stammered and turned a darker hue of red. She waved a hand in the air and hurried toward the door. “Uh… it just happened. Uh… one of those things, I guess.”
She was nearly to the door when Amanda stepped in her path, both hands on her hips. “Dory!”
“Excuse me, miss, I need to get back to the kitchen now.”
“Dory, just what exactly happened to the last teacher?”
