This sale is September 1- 4.

After you take advantage of that value-packed deal, mosey on over to my re-release of MURDOCH’S BRIDE. This book was one of Debra Holland’s Montana Sky Series for Kindle World. Thankfully, when Amazon deleted that program, the rights reverted to me. I’m happy to say MURDOCH’S BRIDE is now available again, this time in e-book and print and is also in KU.
This was a fun book to write.

Take a man who hasn’t let a woman other than his cook set foot in his house for twenty years, a woman who doesn’t trust men and can’t stop complaining about everything, the man’s two sons, the woman’s niece/companion, and a young widow. Cast the women into the snow after a train wreck and have them taken to the men’s ranch home an hour from town, where another blizzard further isolates them. When the temperature drops and the hired hands move into the house… well, things get crowded and controversial. I love this book. I hope if you haven’t yet read MURDOCH’S BRIDE, you will and that you will love it, too. http://mybook.to/Murdochbook3

I’ve just finished writing and am editing BLESSING, the name of a young woman who prefers to be called Buster because she feels the nickname is more suited to a rancher. This is book 2 of the Widows of Wildcat Ridge Series. PRISCILLA, by Charlene Raddon, is book 1 of the series. Both books are on preorder. PRISCILLA releases September 15 and BLESSING releases October 1. NISSA by Zina Abbott, is book 3 and will release October 15. You may have guessed, books in the series will release approximately every two weeks through spring—with the exception of December. Here’s the link for BLESSING: http://Getbook.at/blessingWOWR

Have a great Labor Day weekend! I hope you spend at least part of the weekend reading.

SHADOWS AND SILK SERIES #SophieDarling

Sofie Darling will be awarding a $25 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

Shadows and Silk Series
Three Lessons in Seduction
Tempted by the Viscount
by Sofie Darling

GENRE: Historical Romance

Since Regency romance is, at heart, historical fiction, there are certain specific challenges that accompany the writing of it. (I would also like to note that these challenges happen to be where I find the fun in writing the genre.)

First, there is the history itself. It must be researched and respected. It must be correct, and it’s on the writer to make sure it is. (Never underestimate the readers. They KNOW their history.) But here is where the fun lives, too. For example, when I was researching the first novel in my Shadows and Silk series, Three Lessons in Seduction, I knew what year (1824) and city (Paris) the story needed to be set, but I needed more information about the political situation to fully develop the spy intrigue. After a few days of scouring the internet and my local library, I’d found the perfect historical situation and event to twine the story around.

Second, there is the language. It’s vitally important to get this correct, and it’s a tricky balance. We can’t have the hero walking up to the heroine and saying, “What’s up?” It’s too modern. This is where reading period fiction like Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters has been useful to my writing. I’m able to absorb the spoken language of the period and utilize it with my characters.

For me, however, the greatest challenge of writing Regency fiction is making the story relevant to a modern audience without being anachronistic. I like to create characters who exist within aristocratic English society, but don’t always play by its rules. But it takes knowing and (again) researching the time period to figure out how much a character can be an outlier without being completely out of time. I have a rule: if someone did it once, then it’s fair game. For example, in Tempted by the Viscount, my heroine, Olivia, is a divorcee. In fact, she is only the fourth woman to be granted a divorce by Parliament on the grounds of desertion. Why is she the fourth? In actual history, there had been three divorces granted by 1825, so I felt free to add Olivia to their number. If there had been zero divorces, then I would have had to go a different way with the story.

So, yes, there is a bit of extra work that goes into writing Regency romance, but it’s just so much fun that I don’t mind it a bit!

Thank you so much for inviting me over today!
Xo, Sofie

THREE LESSONS IN SEDUCTION Blurb:

Lord Nicholas Asquith needs his wife. Too bad he broke her heart ten years ago.

Can he resist a second chance at the love he lost?

When Mariana catches the eye of the man at the center of an assassination plot, Nick puts aside their painful past and enlists her to obtain information by any means necessary, even if it means seducing the enemy agent.

Even if the thought makes his blood boil.

Only by keeping his distance from Mariana these last ten years was he able to pretend indifference to her. With every moment spent with her, he feels his tightly held control slipping...

Can she trust the spy who broke her heart?

Mariana spent the last decade forgetting Nick. Now she has the chance to best him at his own game, an opportunity she can’t resist, even as her view of him begins to shift. Increasingly, she wants nothing more than to seduce her own husband . . .

It’s only a matter of time before mad passion ignites, a passion never convincingly extinguished. A passion that insists on surrendering to the yearning of the flesh and, quite possibly, of the heart.

Excerpt from THREE LESSONS IN SEDUCTION:

“Unbutton your dress?” Nick repeated. It wasn’t possible he’d heard those words in that order.

“Have you spent a single minute of your life bound within layers of corset, shift, and tightly buttoned dress? Has this ever been required for one of your spy missions?”

He couldn’t miss the scorn in her voice. “Never.”

“Then you’ll have to trust me when I suggest that it’s a bloody fantastic idea for you to unbutton me. You’ve done it before, in case you’ve forgotten.”

“I haven’t,” he said, his voice incapable of more than a low, gravelly rumble.

She blinked, and a moment passed.

Reason bade Nick exit the room and abandon the entire proposition. Under no circumstance should he close the distance between them and place his hands on Mariana’s body. Paper thin layers of chartreuse silk and muslin between his fingers and her skin wouldn’t be enough.

A few quick steps could carry him to her.

A few quick steps could undo him.

TEMPTED BY THE VISCOUNT Blurb:

London, April 1825

Lord Jakob Radclyffe left his past behind in the Far East. Or so he thinks until a ruthless thief surfaces in London, threatening to ruin his daughter’s reputation. With the clock ticking, Jake needs the scandalous Lady Olivia Montfort’s connections in the art world to protect his daughter’s future.

Olivia, too, has a past she’d like to escape. By purchasing her very own Mayfair townhouse, she’ll be able to start a new life independent from all men. There’s one problem: she needs a powerful man’s name to do so. The Viscount St. Alban is the perfect name.

A bargain is struck.

What Olivia doesn’t anticipate is the temptation of the viscount. The undeniable spark of awareness that races between them subverts her vow to leave love behind. Soon, she has no choice but to rid her system of Jake by surrendering to her craving for a single scorching encounter.

But is once enough? Sometimes once only stokes the flame of desire higher and hotter. And sometimes once is all the heart needs to risk all and follow a mad passion wherever it may lead.

Excerpt from TEMPTED BY THE VISCOUNT:

His feet began a slow prowl forward, steadily erasing the distance between them, inch by deliberate inch. She should feel panicked, or, at least, unsettled, by his purposeful approach. But those feelings refused to take hold. The anxiety and anticipation of seconds ago flared into a single overwhelming sensation: desire, white hot, ravenous.

He drew within a foot of her and stopped. The only sound in the room the jagged in and out of her breath.

So this was what it was to be a wanton? Aching from the nearness of his withheld touch, excruciatingly delicious and exquisitely tortured all at once.

“Why are you here?” she muttered.

“How should I answer that question?” he returned, his voice a low, masculine register that quaked her to her core. His head lowered, lips hovering just above hers for one, two, three rapid heartbeats, his breath a whisper across her lips. “Like this?”

AT FIRST, DAISY IGNORES HER CAT'S DATING ADVICE.

Daisy will turn 40 in eleven months and has never married. Her family figures Daisy is a loser because she is still in college trying to avoid paying off her student loans which have amassed over 22 years of a miseducation. And all Daisy has is a cat to keep her company. To make the crises worse, her cat begins talking to Daisy, when she is sober! The mess of Daisy's life is even kookier because the cat is cursing and smoking now and drinking more alcoholic beverages. Mm, there must be a connection to all this flowing alcohol, which may explain the bubbly in Daisy's brain. Her sisters and mother insist on setting Daisy up on six blind dates and all the men are named after liquor.

A heartwarming, LOL book that will make you smile. Available in e-book, print, and audiobook!

Read an Excerpt:

Her heart stopped at the sound of claws coming down the hallway.

What is that rolling sound?

There was the sound of heavy breathing at the door followed by, “I brought you a bottle of wine, dearie,” the cat said, cackling like an old witch.

She tiptoed over to the door. “I suppose you have a poisoned apple, too, in that filthy paw of yours.”

“I didn’t bring a wormy apple. Would you like a nice unopened bottle of Pinot Noir instead?”

Daisy twisted a fist in her yellow Adult Cinderella nightgown. Her big toe stuck out of her slippers. She did not drink this early in the day or was even up on a Saturday morning, but her sisters had banged on the bedroom window. Aunt Davina slammed a picture of Jesus against the window and screamed, “Pray to God, Daisy, that The Man watching football from the clouds will toss you a husband as good as my John! Maybe you will catch a Matthew or a Peter!”

“I dated a Peter once and he was really a dick,” Daisy yelled back.

Given the day she was having, a morning drink could hit the I-feel-good-about-myself spot right on.

Daisy should act strong and tell the cat to go catch a mouse.

On the other hand, a stiff drink would calm the lizards jogging around her brain. The mind racing was due to her new mad-as-a-hatter relationship with her cat.

“Uh, a glass of wine would be good,” she squeaked.

TAIL OF THE DRAGON -- A COZY MYSTERY

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Connie di Marco will be awarding a $20 Amazon/BN GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

San Francisco astrologer Julia Bonatti never thought murder would be part of her practice, but now, Julia’s former boss and current client has asked for help. He has serious problems at his law firm. Three people have received death threats and the only common denominator between them is a case long settled -- the infamous Bank of San Francisco fire. Julia’s convinced a woman is behind the threats, perhaps even the widow of the man who died in that same fire, but no one wants to believe that astrology could provide a clue. Before Julia can help her client, two lawyers are dead and her own life is threatened. Can she unmask the killer before he (or she) takes another life?

TAIL OF THE DRAGON Excerpt:

I followed the curve from Sutro Heights down to the Great Highway. Here, the road runs parallel to Ocean Beach. Sheets of sand had blown across the highway and formed dunes every so often high enough to block the ocean view. Waves crashed against the concrete abutment sending salt water spray across my windshield. I turned east on Ulloa away from the roiling Pacific and spotted Sarah Larkin’s address on the opposite side of the street. The wind off the ocean picked up, blowing east. Particles of dust and beach sand hit my face as I climbed out of the car. Keeping my head down for protection, I hurried across the street.

I climbed the long stairway to the front doors where a sign indicated 3102-3104. At least here, in the shelter of the entryway, there was respite from the wind. I pressed the buzzer to the door on the right. After a moment, a woman called out. “Who is it?”

“Hi. My name is Julia Bonatti. I’ve come from Meyers Dade & Schultz.”

The door was quickly yanked open by a woman in her late forties. Her face was round and slightly puffy. She wore no makeup and was dressed in a nondescript brown jumper over a black sweatshirt. Her long hair, streaked with gray, was combed back behind her ears.

She peered at me. “For God’s sake. What now? I told him I didn’t want anything from him or his damn law firm.” Her eyes were thin puffy slits.

“I . . . I’d just like to talk to you about your brother. I was hoping maybe you could help us in finding his murderer.”

“His murderer . . . I’d give his murderer a prize if I knew who he was,” she sneered. She looked me up and down and finally decided she’d talk to me even if it was only because I offered a sounding board for her bitterness. “Come on in,” she said resignedly.

“I gather you and your brother weren’t close, but I am sorry for your loss.”

“Don’t be. Wasn’t a loss. Believe me. I haven’t talked to Jack for years. Since my son died.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know.” A familiar pain flickered in my chest. My loss seemed small in comparison.

“Nicky was sixteen when he died. He had a drug problem. He got mixed up with the wrong kids and they were into some heavy stuff. I was sure if he had one more chance . . . a good chance, he might make it.” Her voice trailed off. “I begged Jack for the money. I never asked him for a thing in my life. Never. But I begged for that.”

“He refused?”

“Said he didn’t see why he should pay for rehab or counseling. The other places hadn’t done Nick any good, so what difference did it make?” She looked at me, her eyes betraying a deep well of pain.
“Jack never really loved anyone in his life. How could he possibly understand what it’s like to love a child? I didn’t have anyone else to ask. My husband was killed in a car accident when Nick was seven. Our parents are dead, and Jack had plenty of money. Big, successful lawyer . . . but he didn’t give a damn about me or Nick. Yeah, I hated him. I still hate his guts. I don’t care if he’s dead, I only wish he had suffered more.”

She’s determined to return the necklace to its proper owner, but the owner was brutally killed, a murder which remains unsolved, and her heirs want nothing to do with the diamond. Her best friend, Melanie, jumps feet first into investigating the murder, but her neighbor, Ryder, doesn’t want Terri exposed to any danger. Ryder, to Terri’s surprise, also wants to be more than neighbors with Terri. Luckily, he’s prepared to take any measure necessary to keep her safe because someone is determined to stop her inquiries.

Join Terri on her quest to find a home for the diamond, which may result in the unveiling of a murderer – if she survives long enough.

FINDERS, NOT KEEPERS Excerpt:

“Now,” Mrs. Collins said as she sat back with her own cup of coffee. “I’m sure you’re curious about Jessica.” Terri nodded but didn’t dare speak for fear her curiosity would come across as excitement, which was morbid considering the poor woman was dead. “Phil?”
Mr. Collins cleared his throat. “Our niece Jessica was only twenty-five when she was killed.”
Terri gasped. “Killed? Oh no! What happened?” She leaned forward, her coffee and pie forgotten.
“That’s what we’d like to know,” Mrs. Collins snapped. Her husband reached over and grasped her hand.
“She was murdered three years ago,” he explained.
Terri set her coffee and pie on the coffee table, no longer interested in Mrs. Collins’ culinary skills. “Oh no. Who would do such a thing?”
Mr. Collins shook his head. “We don’t know. The police have labeled it an unsolved mystery.”
“I don’t think they’re even looking for the killer anymore. They say it was a random act of violence.” Mrs. Collins snorted in a very unladylike manner at that idea. “As if violence is something random. This entire country has gotten too used to violent acts, if you want my opinion.”
Terri had no response to that. What did you say when someone told you a loved one had been murdered and the police had no clue what happened? Instead, she reached down for her purse and took out the necklace. “I have no words of comfort, but perhaps you’ll at least find some comfort in the return of her necklace.” She held it out to Mrs. Collins who just shook her head.
“Actually,” Mr. Collins cleared his throat. “We don’t want it.”

 photo _MG_0371_2_zpsqp0qwydi.jpg
I grew up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on, from my mom's Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew, to Little Women. When I wasn't flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But being a lawyer really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out being a B&B owner wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before following the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from my adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

Finders, Not Keepers is my thirteenth book.

questioning her lifestyle. Helping Laura plan the wedding
is no problem—she’s done it before for all their other friends.
The first time was a blast, the second super fun, but doing it
without receiving any help from the rest of the girls gets old really fast.

The whole event kicks off with the worst kind of surprise
when Kassandra discovers who her friend's fiancé really
is, and she's torn between supporting Laura's future
happiness and hiding the deeply buried, intimate past she shares with

hard work on her own, Kassandra finds surprising comfort in
Josh, the best man in the wedding and someone she's been avoiding for
years. He's charming, thoughtful, handsome, and the worst kind of
womanizer, but she just can't seem to stay away. All the
while,Kassandra can't help wondering if the wedding could be any
more cliché—until she finds unexpected ways to change things up a bit.

Excerpts from Laura’s Wedding

From Chapter 1

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. I’d heard that saying more than once now. And I was about to hear it once again.

“Kassie! Kassie, wake up! I’m getting married,” a high-pitched voice squealed at me at 3:00 a.m.

Who the hell is this? I had picked up the phone without even looking at the caller ID. Oh, Laura.

Great.

“Kassandra, are you listening? I’m engaged!” Laura screamed from the other side of the phone.

“Yeah, wow,” I said. “Congratulations.”

“I can’t believe you, Kassie. You should be more excited. You’ll get to be my bridesmaid!” The volume of her voice kept rising.

“I’m happy for you, Laura.” I really didn’t know at the moment how I felt. I was trying to look around to see exactly where I was. “Believe me. It’s just…it’s three o’clock, and I was sleeping.”

After looking at my surroundings, I remembered I was in my own house. I had a minor headache, probably from all the drinking the night before, and my body ached a bit. I looked beside me and found the reason for my hurt.

Next to me I found the silhouette of a beautiful man. The memories of the few hours before my abrupt awakening came back at me:

A bar. A blond. My home. Some sex...in that order.

“I know it’s late, but I had to give you the good news.”

“And news it is.” She was the last of my best friends who was single; not so long ago we roamed all the bars in town together, looking for men to hook up with, and suddenly she was engaged.

This book is linked to AMANDA’S RANCHER. Both were originally part of Debra Holland’s Montana Sky Series for Kindle World. Now that the rights have reverted to me, all of Debra’s characters and place names have been changed because those belong to her. My characters remain the same.

Since the books are mine, they will be available worldwide as well as being in Kindle Unlimited. They are also available in print. The universal Amazon buy link is http://mybook.to/Rancherbook2

In THE RANCHER AND THE SHEPHERDESS, Gormlaith (a Gaelic name pronounced Gormley) McGowan is an Irish immigrant who’s lived in America two years since marrying the man her father chose. What a mistake marrying that man was! Now she’s escaping a desperate situation after the accidental death of her brutish husband.

Her late husband’s mother and bullying brother believe she should remain in New York and marry the brother. If not, they vow to make Gormlaith pay by accusing her of killing her husband. After two years with her drunkard, gambling, and wife-beating husband, she has no intention of remaining in that family. She escapes by immediately leaving for Montana to become a mail-order bride.

Unfortunately for Gormlaith, while she’s on her way to Montana, the man who sent for a bride dies. She arrives in Cottonwood Springs with almost no money, no place to stay, and no groom. What a situation. The Cottonwood Springs sheriff comes to her assistance and suggests bachelor rancher Garrett McDonald marry Gormlaith. Once Garrett sees the beautiful woman and hears her lilting brogue, he’s convinced.

In AMANDA’S RANCHER, Garrett was foreman on the Kincaid ranch. Now he’s bought his own place from a large family moving to California. Luckily for him, they left a few pieces of their furniture in the six-bedroom log home. He’d planned to write for a mail-order bride in the spring. No need now that Gormlaith and he are wed.

Here’s an excerpt from the morning after Gormlaith and Garrett arrive at his ranch. She’s still marveling that she married a man who never hits women. She’s prepared breakfast while he cared for the animals:

Gormlaith was beside herself with worry. Though she was certain the large range was a wonder, she hadn’t learned to regulate the beast. After she set the food on the table she wanted to break out in tears. She’d so wanted to impress her husband.
He came in and hung his coat and hat on pegs by the back door. “I’m hungry as a bear coming out of hibernation.”
She wrung her hands. “Sit down and let me explain.”
He took his chair and stared at the food. “Well, this looks different.”
She poured his coffee and set the coffeepot on the table. “I had a little trouble figuring out this fancy stove. I’ll learn to use it, but… today didn’t turn out as I’d expected.”
He picked up a biscuit and dropped it onto his plate with a thud. He met her gaze and raised his eyebrows. “I thought you said you were good with bread.”
“I am… I was in New York… and in Ireland. In those places, the stove was tiny and hardly compares to this one. I thought this big one would be easier. I’m sure the beast will be once I get used to the thing, but there’s more to regulate and figure out.”
“Sit down and we’ll eat what we can.” He took a piece of bacon so crisp it broke when he tried to pick it up. “I do like my bacon crisp, but this is overdone even for me and likely to break a tooth. How are the eggs?”
She twisted her napkin. “They turned out a bit better than the rest. And we have potatoes fried with onion. There are a lot of potatoes in the cellar and quite a few onions also. I remember you bought more potatoes so I thought you must like them.”
“I do. I guess any Irishwoman knows how to cook potatoes.” He picked up his fork and dug into his food—except the biscuits.
Throughout breakfast, she kept glancing at him but he didn’t speak. She picked at the meal on her plate. After he’d eaten his fill and had a second cup of coffee, he pushed away from the table.
He rose and put his hand on her shoulder. “Save all those biscuits and put them in a basket by the door.” He kissed her on the head. “We can use them for ammunition if we’re ever attacked.”
He donned his coat, clamped his hat on his head. She picked up a biscuit and threw it him. The missile hit him on the thigh.
He used his hands as a shield, but he was laughing. “Ow, ow, mercy, please. If that had hit my head I’d have a concussion.”
She threw another at him but he sped out the door, his rumbling laughter drifting her way. Ammunition indeed. She’d show him. She’d learn to deal with this beast of a stove and cook the best food he’d ever eaten.

Gormlaith learns a tremendous amount about being a rancher’s wife by the end of this book. Garrett’s new knowledge is about his feisty, hard-working wife. Each must overcome difficult situations to forge a strong marriage.

Don't miss the Rafflecopter giveaway at the end of the post!

Never Again
Dangerous Secrets Book 0.5
by
RM Alexander

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Failure isn't an option…

Ken Shepherd's witness is murdered, leaving him to want more than just to
arrest the criminals and walk away. A career change to the Witness
Security Program gives the opportunity to help people who made bad
decisions find a second chance. But will high expectations lead to
happiness or is death lurking around the corner? Never isn't as far
as it seems in this action-packed prequel to the Dangerous Secrets
series.

UNTIL TOMORROW Excerpt:

Colton sat at the table with a pen in hand and glanced at the duffel bag waiting at the door. Precious time ticked away—if he was going to leave, every second mattered. The explosion minutes before ensured law enforcement would be banging on the door soon and, once they came, there would be no getting away.

With a heavy breath, he placed pen to the paper, and then lifted it off. Going home could mean death, but as he tapped the pen on the table, other options seemed limited. With a heavy breath, he quickly scribbled down the words he would leave behind.

I consider myself a smart man. Not brilliant. Not Ivy League, genius-scoring, Einstein-equal kind of smart, but, you know. Smart.

I also consider myself a good man who admits to making mistakes. I became involved with the wrong people, was driven by the buck. And the biggest mistake I made was putting those I love in danger. That, and never telling her I loved her before it was too late.

We do that, don't we? We never realize the importance of someone or something in our lives until that someone is gone. There's a reason that parable exists.

And if you want me to be completely honest with you, I do have regrets. I regret ever meeting Red, ever seeing the dollar signs instead of the questions, or his reasons for coming to someone so freshly assigned to managing accounts. I regret my ego driving the bus instead of my head. But I don't regret anything as much as I regret not telling her I loved her.
Just don't tell anyone else I said so.

Colton folded the paper in half and left it on the table, stared at it for a couple seconds with consideration. A chance existed that the wrong person would find the note. There was some risk in leaving the note behind.

Good thing he was a gambling man.

He hurried to the door, snatched the bag from the floor, and ran outside to the canoe.
