A GENTLE HEART

Christie Logan is offering a Rafflecopter cash giveaway on this tour. Enter at the end of this post.

A Gentle Heart by Christie Logan

Ambitious realtor Alex has plans for his life—big plans—and getting dumped by his fiancée won't sidetrack him. He'll have to face her again at an important business function, but he won't let himself be the object of pity and scorn. What better way to show the world—and his ex— how well he's doing than to arrive with a beautiful woman on his arm? A woman he finds, of all places, behind the lingerie counter of a department store.

Tyffanie has dreams that extend far beyond her sales counter, but she's been burned by men only interested in her looks. Deep inside, she's still the gawky, freckle-faced girl other kids used to tease. When handsome, successful Alex enters her life, everything changes. He's the first to look beneath the surface, respect her, and care about her hopes and dreams.

Alex discovers there is so much more to Tyffanie than outward beauty. He's falling in love with her kind soul and gentle heart when he must decide how far he's willing to pursue success and all its trappings. Because his need to win at all costs may cost him Tyffanie's love.

Excerpt from A Gentle Heart:

"Jeeves, huh?" He tried to pet the cat too but when it slunk away from him, Alex realized he had a rival for Tyffanie's affection. "He looks awfully solid for a street cat."

"I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feeds him."

The cat meowed loudly, as though he objected to them talking about him as if he weren't there.

"Oh, I think he's hungry," Tyffanie said. "I've got some food upstairs for him. Would you mind just waiting a minute while I grab it?"

So she wasn't going to ask him up? A wave of disappointment hit Alex, followed by frustration. He wanted to be alone with Tyffanie, not stand here and babysit some dopey cat. Come on, guy, think of something! "Those stairs are awfully dark. You should let me go with you—"

"Oh, it's fine, don't worry. I'll be right back." She pushed open the door and disappeared inside.

Alex scowled at the cat, and he could have sworn the silly animal smirked back.

DEBBIE WHITE'S CHARLESTON HARBOR ROMANCES

Don't forget to check Debbie White's Rafflecopter giveaway at the end of the post!

Sweet Indulgence

A Charleston Harbor Novel Book 1
by
Debbie White

Genre: Sweet Romance

Real Men Eat Cupcakes

Annie McPherson has had it with all the blind dates her grandmother and
auntie set her up with. She just wants to be left alone to run the
Sweet Indulgence cupcake bakery – even if it means she’ll remain
single forever.

Jack’s just been through a gut-wrenching break-up, and women are the last
thing on his mind. Now he’s on a mission to pick up cupcakes for
his niece’s birthday party—not a mission to fall in love. Pulled
in by Annie’s good looks and witty charm, though, temptation proves
too sweet.

But will Annie’s pesky grandmother and auntie welcome Jack as Annie’s
choice or will they have him jumping through hoops to prove he’s
the one?

SWEET INDULGENCE Excerpt:

Annie retrieved two bottles of ice cold water. She handed Jack one. “Why is the boat in between names?” She took a sip of the water. It felt great on her parched lips, and the cool water quenched her dry throat.
“That’s a long story.” He peered out into the water before them.
She took another gulp of water. It really tasted good. He was right. The heat could really sneak up on you when you’re riding in a boat.
“Well, we have time for long stories, don’t we?” She batted her lashes. She wasn’t letting him off the hook that easy.
“I had a girlfriend.”
“You named your boat after a girlfriend?” Annie frowned.
“She was more than a girlfriend. We were engaged to be married.” His eyes never left the water.
“A fiancée, we call people we are engaged to be married to fiancés.” She giggled.
He turned quickly with furrowed brows then he resumed with eyes steady on the water.
“I’m kidding.” She touched his arm and withdrew it quickly. “Anyway, you named the boat after your fiancée and now you two are no longer a couple, so the boat is nameless,” Annie spoke freely.
“That’s about the size of it.”
“How about you give the boat a name that means something to you that would never change?”
Jack looked back over his shoulder and then turned back around toward the front of the boat. All of a sudden, he cut the engine and they began to drift. He turned and sat down, bringing his bottle of water to his lips and drew in a drink. “I thought about that. But I’m terrible at naming things.”
“Let’s see. I named my dog Buffy because of her color.” Annie searched the boat with her eyes for clues. “How about Lady Luck?”
“I’ve seen a few named that. I want something more original.”
Annie lowered her gaze and stared at her bright pink toe polish. She raised her head quickly. “I know. How about Lady Powell?”

Fans of Debbie Macomber, Sherryl Woods, and Susan Wiggs are sure to love
SWEET INDULGENCE, the first sweet romance novel in the Charleston
Harbor series.

NEW RELEASE! -- TEXAS STORM

Celebrate with me! TEXAS STORM, the third book in my Texas Time Travel trilogy is now released for readers. Although I have a difficult time choosing, I admit this is my favorite of the trilogy. The heroine makes TEXAS STORM perfect for Memorial Weekend release.

You see, Jeannie Luttrell is a WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilot) ferrying planes from factories to air bases or from one base to another. WASPs freed up male pilots for combat. This doesn’t mean they had an easy job. They learned to fly 67 different types of planes. Of the over 25,000 women who applied, 1,830 were accepted into the program and 1,074 graduated. These WASPs flew a combined 60,000,000 miles ferrying planes. Thirty-eight of them lost their lives serving their country, yet they were not military and received no benefits. For more information, see my post at

I'm giving away an e-book set of the trilogy to one person who comments today!

Here’s the TEXAS STORM blurb:

Jeannie Luttrell’s passion in life is piloting airplanes. She doesn’t mind the low pay, long hours, or the fact that as a World War II Women’s Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) she has to pay her own expenses. A faulty oil pressure line causes her P-51 Mustang’s engine to fail and she has to bail out during a storm. When she lands the wind drags her across the ground and into a small ravine where her head strikes a rock.

When Caleb Knight sees a person struggling with a parachute on his cousin’s ranch, he knows what has happed. Another woman has landed in the small part of a ravine that appears to be a time portal from the past. Twice before a woman has come forward in time at this spot. He stops and takes the stranded pilot to his cousin’s home but then he plans to be uninvolved. Darned if he’ll let the family rope him into their shenanigans.

No matter how hard he tries, Caleb can’t avoid Jeannie. Soon, he isn’t so certain he wants to. But, how can two strong-willed individuals who view the world differently build a relationship? Especially, now that they have the same enemy plotting against them?

TEXAS STORM Excerpt (the first night Jeannie is in her apartment and Caleb is visiting briefly):

Jeannie said, “Show me where you live.”
“Okay, follow me.” He walked to the living room windows. “See that large house shape with one downstairs light on?”
“I’m not sure in the dark. Is it the one with the outdoor light?”
He pulled her in front of him and reached around her to point. “Yep. Straight ahead and one house to the right.”
She inhaled his scent. His breath tickled her neck and increased awareness of him, as if she needed anything to make her more sensitive to his masculinity and presence.
“I-I see it now.”
“Good. Then two houses left is Margaret’s yellow house.”
She turned and stepped away before she threw herself at him. “I love Terry Springs. In my opinion, the town is the perfect size.”
“You think so?”
“Sure, don’t you? Have a seat. Would you like some coffee?”
He sat on the couch. “No, thanks, I’m still stuffed.”
Now she couldn’t think of anything to say. Her mind was still on him standing so near. “Ellie chose the colors for the walls but I like them. They’re soothing. What do you think?”
“I guess so. Aren’t you going to sit down?”
She sat at the other end of the couch. “You’ve always lived in Terry Springs so maybe you don’t like it as much as a newcomer.”
“I went away to college but you’re right, I’ve always lived here.” He lifted one shoulder in a shrug. “I like it just fine. Most of the time, I even like working at the bank.”
She curled her legs under her. “Everyone in town appears to respect you. They do all of the Knights, in fact.”
“Jeannie, relax.”
She tried to affect an innocent expression when her heart was pounding. “I am relaxed. In fact, Mr. Knight, I’m having a very nice evening.”
That appeared to please him. “Good, so am I.”

Hometown Girl After All
Hometown Series Book 2

Julia lost everything while she was ill. Self-conscious and alone, she’s
moved to Smithville, determined to hide away in her rundown Victorian
house. Little does she know, she can’t hide anything in a small
town, including her interest in the deliveryman.

Resolved to keep his life simple, Chad has his hands full running his delivery
business and supporting his adopted family. So why can’t he get
that withdrawn city girl, Julia, off his mind?

Will the eccentric but well-meaning Smithville folk push Julia and Chad to
open up, or will the emotional toll drive them both back into seclusion?

HOMETOWN GIRL AFTER ALL Excerpt:

At the diner, Chad stepped behind Julia and pushed open the door for her, his hand warm on her back to lead her through. Bells chimed, announcing their arrival, and Marge glanced up from behind the counter. Her customary greeting froze on her lips as she did a double take, her conversation with a bald man seated in front of her forgotten.

The song on the jukebox ended and all the diners turned in the suddenly silent room to watch Julia and Chad walk to a table.

As Chad pulled out Julia’s red vinyl and chrome chair, the jukebox clicked and clattered, changing records. The first few words of the song P.S. I LoveYou, drifted across the room, as Julia did the butt-lift and scoot maneuver so Chad could scoot up her chair. The other diners slowly returned their attention back to their plates and conversations.

“It’s the Beatles,” Chad commented distractedly, shifting his chair up to the table, his eyes darting nervously between Julia and the other customers.

She nodded, engrossed in digging through her purse for something. Giving up in frustration, completely for- getting what she’d been looking for, she turned to hang her purse on the back of the chair, inadvertently catching the eye of a man and woman at the next table who sat staring, with their forks still hovering in mid-air.

Chad cleared his throat and lifted two menus from behind the salt and peppershakers. “So, what do you want to eat?” he asked, his voice a bit too loud.

Jumping in her seat, Julia’s gaze flew from the staring couple, back to Chad. “I—I’m not sure. What’s good here?”

Pretending to glance over the menu, Chad berated himself for bringing Julia to the diner. Why hadn’t her taken her to Uniontown where they could have cuddled in the corner booth of a crowded restaurant where no one would notice them? Feeling the back of his neck burn, he glanced over to see Marge’s pink tennis shoes on the floor next to the table.

He sighed inwardly and followed the pink uniform up to Marge’s face, which clearly but silently said, “I knew it!”

“Well,” Marge stated, her tone speculative, a wide grin on her face. “What can I get for you two this fine evening?”

Chad glanced at Julia, noting the misery written across her face, and he flinched. “I’d like a Coke. Julia?”

“Water please,” she muttered, not making eye contact with Marge.

Pretending to scribble on her pad, Marge sized up the couple over her reading glasses. “You got it,” she finally replied, turning on her heel.

Julia adjusted the salt and peppershakers into a row with the container of sugar packets and the ketchup, then turned her attention back to her menu.

“I like the meatloaf,” Chad said, glancing up.

“Hmm,” she mumbled, turning the page. “And the tuna melt.”
Julia nodded.

“Sometimes I get the—”

Marge plopped two large red plastic tumblers on the table, and scooted the one full of water toward Julia. The aging waitress then tugged two paper-wrapped straws from her apron, tossed them on the table, and collected her pad and pencil. With one hip cocked and her glasses balanced on the end of her nose, she glanced between Chad and Julia.

Chad watched as Julia’s neck turned red, the color flooding up over her chin, then her cheeks. “Give us a minute please,” he said, his eyes never leaving Julia, angry at himself for being such a dunce.
Wishing she were invisible, Julia suffered the curious stares of the other diners. Shoving down her discomfort and battling to muster even a dab of confidence, she glanced up at Chad.

He took a long drink of soda, then set down his glass. “Sorry, we should have gone to Uniontown...” he muttered.

Julia straightened in her chair. “No, I’m fine, really.” She lifted her glass. “Have you had time to think about the flower—”The tumbler in her hand shifted in her grip, then fell to the table top, the water and ice pouring across the gleaming white table and directly onto Chad’s lap.

His chair screeched back as he bound to his feet. Wiping at his pants and shaking his hands, Chad danced backward in an effort to miss the torrent, barely managing not to fall into the lap of the woman seated behind him. When he looked up, all he could see was Julia’s stricken expression.

“I’m so sorry,” she gasped, then hurried around the table. Plucking a handful of napkins from the dispenser, she frantically wiped at Chad’s crotch.

“Julia—” he stuttered, still in shock, his hands and shirt drip- ping into the growing puddle.
She continued to press the napkin into his jeans, desperate to help.

“Julia!” he said louder, grasping her wrist in his fist.

She stopped, frozen in horror, finally noticing that everyone in the diner sat staring at her hand pressed to Chad’s crotch. She stood and her hand dropped from Chad’s grip, her face turning so pale he was afraid she would faint.

THE FLAMES OF FLORENCE

Don't miss the Rafflecopter giveaway at the end of the post!

THE FLAMES OF FLORENCE
Historical Thriller
Date Published: May 8, 2018
Publisher: Diversion
Books

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

"A glittering Renaissance gem of a novel. Donna Russo Morin, a master of her craft, has penned an intricate story full of lush historical detail with a plot that will leave you breathless." —Tasha Alexander, New York Times bestselling author of
Death in St. Petersburg

"Illicit plots, mysterious paintings, and Leonardo da Vinci all have their part to play in this delicious, heart-pounding work."
—Kate Quinn, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Alice
Network

THE FLAMES OF FLORENCE Summary:

In her final standalone novel featuring Da Vinci's Disciples, Donna Russo Morin delivers a thrilling story of the secret female artists of Florence, under the tutelage of Leonardo Da Vinci, and their heroic, potentially deadly efforts to save great works of art from the infamous Bonfire of the Vanities.

Lorenzo de Medici is dead, and his son Piero has brought war and famine upon the city of Florence. Yet, the glory that is Renaissance artistry grows more magnificent, as does the work of the women known as Da Vinci's Disciples. Now they face their most dangerous challenge, one shrouded in the cloak of a monk.

From the ashes of war, Friar Girolamo Savonarola rises. Some call him a savior and a prophet, a man willing to overthrow tyrannical rulers and corrupt clergy, the Borgia Pope among them. Fra Girolamo is determined to remold Florence from an avaricious, secular culture to a paragon of Christian virtues.

Many call Savonarola a delusional heretic, incapable of anything but self-serving fanaticism. When he sets out to destroy all secular art forms, Da Vinci's Disciples call him an enemy … but not all of them.

 FLAMES OF FLORENCE Excerpt:

Isabetta and Gianetta walked to the mercato as they did most days. Both understood the depth of kindness Andreano and Mattea had shown them, taking them in as they had done. For Gianetta, her cousin’s kindness went far deeper, for he accepted his role as her guardian without hesitation. They returned such kindness, though in a small manner, by making for the markets early each morning, to buy the freshest fruit and vegetables the farmers delivered to the city. As a widow, Isabetta walked about as she pleased, no chaperone necessary, nor a veil upon her head. Gianetta, a young unmarried woman, could never be seen out of doors without her veil, not a terrible hardship with its embroidered lace sprinkled minutely by small jewels.

“I hope there is some fresh lamb,” Gianetta chirped. “We have not been able to find any in quite some time.”

“That would be nice,” Isabetta agreed.

Both women struggled to speak of inconsequential things. Life had been far too full of serious conversations; at times, the mind needed the triviality of life for it to feel real.

“And perhaps—ahia!” Gianetta’s scream pierced the still morning air.

Isabetta spun, seeing the three boys—all robed in white—rushing away from them, one holding Gianetta’s veil in her hand—strands and roots of her hair still within the teeth of its comb—having yanked it from her head. With swiftness of foot, Isabetta caught up to them, ran before them, and stopped.

“May we help you, signora?” the oldest of the three, perhaps as old as twelve or thirteen, asked of her.
Her lip curled as she fell on them hard. “How dare you!” she spat at them.

The boys looked the very portrait of innocent incomprehension. “We do nothing more than our job.”

“Your job?” Isabetta’s head rocked back and forth as she scoffed at them. “It is your job to accost young women?”

“No, signora,” another replied, a golden haired child no more than ten. “We are to remove all…all…” his eyes rolled up in his head as he searched for the words, “…all vain glories from the
streets of Florence.”

“Vain glories? What nonsense is this?”

“As I said, signora,” the first spoke again, taking a step toward her. If he hoped it would make her take a step back, he was disappointed.

“We do our job. Nothing more and nothing less.”

“And this is what your master tells you to do?”

The boy puffed up his chest. “Sì, signora.”

Isabetta longed to slap the smirk from his face. Instead, she leaned over and leaned down, her head only inches from the oldest.

“Tell your master, Isabetta Fioravanti believes he is deranged and dangerous.”

The boy twitched beneath his pristine robe, his agitation and anger longing for release. His hands fisted by his side as his eyes narrowed to slits.

“Go on, boy,” Isabetta goaded, “if you dare. Look in my eye and ask yourself if I could not slap you raw.” She held up a hand. “No, not could I, but would I?”

Their gazes locked together in battle, neither giving way.

“Come,” the smallest of the boys pulled upon his cohort.

“Come, Alberto.”

Alberto, as he was, began to step away, stepping backward from them.

“Grazie, signora,” he bowed to Isabetta, “for the gift of your name.”

He need not say more, nor did she.

Only when they were out of sight did Isabetta return to Gianetta’s side, examining her head, finding pinpricks of blood on her scalp.

“Do you feel well enough for the mercato?” Isabetta asked of her.

Gianetta nodded her stinging head, covered it as best she could with her small lace handkerchief retrieved from her waist purse, and they began to walk once more.

“You act rashly,” Gianetta chastised her.

“That man is a rash,” Isabetta responded, “and I believe we have just caught it.”

Gianetta grabbed her arm. “You and I?”

Isabetta shook her head. “No. Florence.”

"Like a glorious Italian fresco-richly textured and
vividly portrayed … Highly recommended for lovers of history, art, and
courageous women." —Anna Lee Huber, bestselling author of the Lady Darby
Mysteries

"Donna Russo Morin renders one of the most tumultuous
periods in Florence's history in bright colors and with vivid descriptions.
This tale of a group of determined women standing up for what they believe in …

blossomed into a distinctive style of action-filled historical fiction at a defining moment in her life.

As a second-generation American of full Italian
descent, Donna combined her historical research with her genealogical studies, finding that her birth name (Russo) and her family roots are traceable to ninth century Florence…the very city in which the Da Vinci’s Disciples trilogy is set.
