NOT THROUGH LOVING YOU -- A LOVE HEALS ALL ROMANCE

NOT THROUGH LOVING YOU

What’s Cole Younger Got To Do With It?

A Guest Post By Patricia Preston

In NOT THROUGH LOVING YOU, the heroine, Lia Montgomery, a country music singer/ songwriter, is a fangirl of the Old West and outlaws, especially Cole Younger. This began when she was working on music for a documentary of the Old West and she wrote a song “The Outlaw in My Arms” about Cole. Being a true fangirl, she knows everything about his life.

This brings some humor to the book as the hero, pediatrician Aaron Kendall thinks the Cole/Wild West thing is absurd. Plus it reinforces his belief that he has nothing in common with Lia. The next thing he knows she’s adding touches of the Old West to his house, buys the baby (her nephew whom he is adopting) cowboy boots and suggest they name the baby, Cole. That will be over Aaron’s dead body…

I have to admit I did pass my favoritism of Cole Younger onto my character. A long time ago, I did some in-depth research of the James-Younger gang for a book I was writing. Jesse and Frank James were the most famous, but aside from being outlaws, they were serious, devout sons of a Baptist preacher. One side note, quiet Frank was an avid reader. He was never without a book in his saddlebag and he often quoted Shakespeare.

To me, Cole seemed to be the kind of outlaw a girl would like to meet. Cole came from a large affluent family and he was considered the “life of the party.” He loved to have fun. A flirtatious ladies man, he was a favorite with women. He was outgoing and charming, but he never married. It was rumored he fathered a daughter by the female outlaw, Belle Starr.

After the Northfield bank robbery, Cole spent a couple of decades in prison where he became a medical attendant, working in the prison infirmary, taking care of the sick. (Lia points that out to Aaron since he’s a doctor.) He was a model prisoner who was paroled. His brothers were all dead. John was killed by a Pinkerton agent, Bob died in prison, and broken-hearted Jim committed suicide after his release. Jesse James had been killed and Frank, acquitted of all crimes, was living on the James farm with his family. Cole and Frank reunited and put together the James-Younger Wild West show. Later, Cole, who liked show business, became something of a “motivational” speaker. He traveled the country, presenting lectures on “What My Life Has Taught Me.” He also wrote his autobiography entitled Cole Younger, Himself. Cole died peacefully at home in March 1916. He was seventy-two and still carried 11 bullets in his body from his outlaw days.

You’ll have to read the book to see how Aaron comes to terms with all things Western.

In the Southern town of Lafayette
Falls, a new life brings together a woman with everything to lose and
a doctor with everything to prove.
When a sickly infant is surrendered at
the Lafayette Falls Medical Center, and orphaned soon after,
pediatrician Aaron Kendall arranges to adopt him. After a painful
divorce, the busy baby doc is about to realize his own dream of
becoming a father when the baby’s beautiful estranged aunt turns
up. She doesn't exactly approve of the Kendall bachelor pad, complete
with Aaron's cranky dad and wacky brother, forcing Aaron to form a
risky alliance with her.
Country singer-songwriter Lia
Montgomery barely knew her half-sister, but she's determined her tiny
nephew goes to a good home. If only she fit the bill herself, but her
stressful life on the road is no place for a baby. Yet despite her
misgivings, as she gets to know Aaron, she realizes the smart and
sexy doctor is everything a child could want in a dad—and more
unsettling, everything she's ever hoped for in a man. After all she's
put him through, is it too late to form a family—and maybe put a
song in the good doctor's heart?

KIMBERLY O'MALLEY WRITES ABOUT TAKING CHANCES

Contemporary Romance
Date Published: 20 June, 2017
Publisher: Carolina Blue Publishing

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Katie Fitzgerald learned the hard way about love. She vowed to never get involved with a doctor at work, and when she did, he broke her heart. Older and wiser, Katie is serious about never getting hurt again.

Dr. Flynn Reynolds, staff cardiologist at Windsor Falls Memorial, just might be the man to change her mind. Attraction explodes between the two from their very first meeting. But Katie is determined to protect her heart.

Will Flynn convince her to take another chance?

TAKING CHANCES Excerpt:
Katie Fitzgerald cursed under her breath as she ran across the gravel parking area in heels. Never a good idea. The thought had no more entered her head when there was a sickening snap. She stumbled sideways as the ridiculously high heel of her right shoe fell to the ground. Katie lost her balance and was about to join her heel in the dirt and gravel. The items in her arms scattered everywhere. The string of inventive curses that followed colored the air around her.

Strong arms reached her, picking her up as though she weighed no more than a feather and placing her back on her feet. "I thought nice, Southern ladies didn’t know words like that," came an amused drawl from behind her.

A CONVENIENT RISK BY SARA R. TURNQUIST

A Convenient Risk
by Sara R. Turnquist

GENRE: Historical Romance

One randomly chosen winner via Rafflecopter will win a $50 Amazon/BN.com gift card.

A CONVENIENT RISK Blurb:

He never imagined her heart would be so hard to reach.
Forced into a marriage of convenience after her husband dies, Amanda Haynes is determined she will never love again. Not that it bothers Brandon Miller. He needs her husband’s cattle. She needs financial stability and long-term support for her son and herself. But she never expected to care so much about the running of the ranch. Or the rancher.

Butting heads over the decisions of the ranch, adding to her frustration and grief at her loss. Her wellbeing is soon threatened as their lives become entangled with Billy the Kid and his gang. What has she gotten herself into? What kind of man has she married? Is there any way out?

A CONVENIENT RISK Excerpt:

A strong arm grasped Amanda, catching her upper arm and dragging her onto the horse. As soon as she was solidly on the animal, she grabbed ahold of Brandon as tightly as she could.

They took off. The bull pawed at the ground, making all manner of grunting noises, but as if by some miracle, he ran off to the left. All of this happened as if time had slowed.

The horse continued to push forward. And as they neared the edge of the fence, Brandon urged the horse to go even faster. Were they going to break through? What would happen to the cattle with the fence destroyed?

But as they approached the fence, the horse leapt. Amanda gripped Brandon impossibly tighter. Jolted when the horse landed, her teeth chattered.

Only then did Brandon slow the horse. He then placed a hand on her upper arm and pushed.

She released him.

He sucked in a deep breath and expelled it.

Had she been holding him too tightly? Her face warmed.

He took hold of her shoulders. “Are you all right?”

She nodded, and though their faces were but a breath apart, she was not quite able to meet his eyes, fighting tears in her own. Only then she found herself staring at his bare chest. Jerking her head away, she averted her gaze.

“Do you realize what could have happened?” His voice rose.

She nodded, still not able to meet his eyes. The force of his emotion hit her. Was he so concerned after her?

“I would have had to shoot that bull.”

What? Eyes wide, she tilted her face up to look at him.

“That bull is worth half my herd.”

So he was only worried about the cattle. Not her. His precious cattle.

The Accidental Art Thief
by
Joan Scheighardt
Genre:
Contemporary Fiction

For
a quarter of a century forty-five-year-old Zinc has worked as a
caretaker for a wealthy old man, living in a small casita on his
ranch in New Mexico. She doesn't make much money, but she has the old
man, her dogs, and gorgeous views of the mountains. She is basically
a very content recluse who doesn't invest much time thinking about
what she might do if her circumstances change. So when the old man
dies suddenly, and his daughter all but throws her off the property,
Zinc is forced to reinvent herself—and quickly. With a touch of
magical realism and a collection of offbeat characters, The
Accidental Art Thief explores the thin line between life and death
and the universal forces that connect all things.

"Zinc
is an engaging, quirky, and utterly unique heroine, instantly
likeable, with a hefty mixture of strong intelligence and
overwhelming naivety…. While the novel is realistic, there is
subtle magic woven in nearly every line, as coincidence and confusion
come together into what might be termed the wisdom of time, spirit,
and love." ~ Magdelena Ball, CompulsiveReader.com, author of
Sublime Planet, Black Cow, and other titles.

"Schweighardt
populates her modern-day odyssey through the southwest with
fascinating, quirky characters thrust into a complex (and hilarious)
web of emotional turmoil, poignant misperceptions, and downright
lies. As laugh-out-loud funny as it is thought provoking." ~
Julie Mars, author of the memoir A Month of Sundays: Searching for
the Spirit and My Sister, and the novels Rust, Anybody Any Minute,
and The Secret Keepers.

"A
sensitive, gripping, artfully rendered novel that kept me reading
from the first page to the last." ~ Faye Rapoport DesPres,
author of the memoir-in-essays Message from a Blue Jay.

Interview with the Author
Joan Schweighardt

Describe your book

The Accidental Art Thief is about a forty-five-year-old woman, Zinc, who has worked for many years as a caretaker for a wealthy old man, living in a small casita on his ranch in New Mexico. She doesn't make much money, but she has the old man, her dogs, and gorgeous views of the mountains. She is basically a very content recluse who doesn't invest much time thinking about what she might do if circumstances change. So when the old man dies suddenly, and his daughter all but throws her off the property, Zinc is forced to reinvent herself—and quickly.

What inspired you to write this book?

A number of years ago I sent an email to a friend of mine, but because I misspelled her email address, it actually landed in a stranger’s inbox. The stranger and I discovered we had a lot in common and we became great friends for a while. My protagonist has the same thing happen; an email she intends for one person winds up in someone else’s possession. That’s the end of the similarity. But my reinterpretation of the experience became the nucleus for the novel, with all kinds of other events clustering around it.

What are some of your pet peeves?

We have lots of wonderful bike/walking paths in the city of Albuquerque where I live. Walkers, runners and bike riders can get almost anywhere without ever having to go out on the roads. I myself use the paths for both walking my dog and riding my bike. One of my pet peeves is that a lot of people who bypass me on their bikes don’t bother to shout out, On your left, or On your right, and if you are a daydreamer like me, it can scare the hell out of you when someone goes whizzing by on such a narrow path without any warning… not to mention it puts my lovely dog in jeopardy. I’ve tried hard not to let any of my characters take on any of my pet peeves, but I admit the character Sonie in The Accidental Art Thief has a serious problem with people who fly by her on their bikes.

What do you hope readers will get from your book?

I will be thrilled if readers walk away feeling highly entertained. The book deals with the plight of the protagonist, Zinc, who gets thrown out of the only home she has known for the last 25 years in the first chapter, and the plight of Marge, the woman responsible for throwing her out. Their trajectories crisscross throughout the book, and ultimately impact one another. The plot line is humorous, maybe even a little zany. On the more subtle level the book touches on themes of betrayal, forgiveness, isolation, self reliance, how we think about money in today’s day and age, and the thin line between life and death. So there’s a lot going on, but it doesn’t feel “heavy.”

Joan Schweighardt
is the author of five novels, and more on the way. In
addition to her own writing projects, she writes, ghostwrites, and
edits for individuals and corporations.

CAROLYN ARNOLD IS TODAY'S GUEST AUTHOR

Meet today’s guest, Carolyn Arnold.

She is an international bestselling and award-winning author, as well as a speaker, teacher, and inspirational mentor. She has four continuing fiction series and has written nearly thirty books. Both her female detective and FBI profiler series have been praised by those in law enforcement as being accurate and entertaining, leading her to adopt the trademark, POLICE PROCEDURALS RESPECTED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT™.

Today, she answers a few questions for us and gives us insight into her life and journey as a mystery author.

What motivated you to start writing?

I started as a teenager as a way of dealing with my emotions, and from there I wrote novella-length romances. However, it wasn’t until I was thirty that I wrote my first full-length novel. In fact, I’d been away from writing for thirteen years. Since 2006, though, my life changed and writing’s been a part of my daily life since then.

What keeps you going throughout the writing process?

Writing is something I love to do, but refining a story to publication it is a lot of hard work. What keeps me going is focusing on all the readers who love my books. They are why I keep writing. I want to entertain and inspire people and writing lets me do this.

What is the hardest part of writing?

I love the writing part and even the editing process, but I’d have to say that the latter takes a lot more focus, dedication, and hard work. You definitely have to be committed to a project to pay good money for editors and to read and then for you to rewrite a manuscript so many times that you lose count.

Please describe your work ethic as an author.

I have always viewed writing as something very important. Even before I made a dime with my writing, it was never a hobby. Once I decided to self-publish, I’ve always approached the industry with the respect and professionalism it deserves, and I have emulated the traditionally published market. Some authors will drink while they write or edit, but you would never catch me doing that!

How do you balance your work as an author with the other aspects of your life?

I have goals and deadlines, but on a daily basis, I go with the flow of life. If I’m stressed or get feeling overwhelmed, I’ll step back and see what needs to be adjusted in my schedule. Walking my beagle Max or taking him to the dog park, or visiting a beach (during the summer) helps me to step away and clear my mind as well. And, of course, I always make time to catch up with friends.

Netflix — A writer’s inspiration

for a cozy mystery series

By Carolyn Arnold

Is it just me or is Netflix addicting? With an endless number of movies and television shows, and no commercials, us mere mortals don't stand a chance. And, I must say that I am happy they're around. In fact, there's one series of shows, I have enjoyed many a night. The show is better than warm milk (and doesn’t give me bad breath), but we'll have to become better acquainted before I give up what program I'm talking about. I also usually enjoy a bit of Netflix while I eat lunch, and during many of these, I was exposed to the television show Hart to Hart, which premiered in 1979.

Maybe you watched it on Netflix, as well, or know the show otherwise, but for those not familiar with it, Hart to Hart was about a self-made millionaire and his wife. They were both beautiful—inside and out—but murder was always around them. I fell in love with the couple and the interesting, yet light take on murder solving. This show inspired me to write the McKinley Mysteries—with twists thrown in, of course.

Meet Sean McKinley and Sara Cain. Two murder detectives working for Albany PD, who are partners on the job, but long to be far more than that. Unfortunately, love, it can complicate everything, and for these two, it's best they remain friends for the sake of their careers. But, what if, by some miracle they could both walk away from their day jobs... Would that be enough to change everything?

I’m tempting you to find out for yourself in The Day Job is Murder. Oh, and did I mention there’s a murder investigation sprinkled into this series introductory short story, too? Yep… Romance. Humor. Murder.

Enjoy!

Carolyn Arnold

Book Overview:

The bad guys aren't the only ones on his radar…

For Albany PD homicide detective Sean McKinley, catching killers is the easy part of his job. Working next to his beautiful partner, Sara Cain, is what’s difficult. It might have something to do with the fact that he’s fallen in love with her, though. Fortunately, she feels the same way about him. But she’s convinced they should just be friends.

If only there was some way to change her mind…

About the McKinley Mysteries:

Romance. Humor. Murder. Are you looking for a murder mystery without all the graphic violence and foul language? Something that you can enjoy in an afternoon and walk away feeling good about afterward? How about a dash of humor and romance? If so, meet former detectives Sean and Sara McKinley. When a billionaire leaves them all his money, they no longer have to work, but they find themselves sticking to what they’re good at—solving murders. Undercover, off the books, and around the world, they’ll get to the bottom of things…and romance it up along the way.

This is the perfect book series for fans of Hart to HartCastleColomboMonkRockford FilesPsych, and Magnum PI.

A SOLDIER'S ROMANCE AND A COZY MYSTERY SERIES!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

MORE THAN A SOLDIER
by
Irene Onorato
Genre: Inspirational Romance

Pub
Date: 6/6/17

Author Guest Post
By Irene Onorato
Soldiers...

I can’t help but love them. My father, brother, husband, and son all served in the U.S. Army. When I first started writing, it seemed quite natural for the heroes in my stories to be active or former military men.

MORE THAN A SOLDIER, my latest novel, features a wounded hero who was the sole survivor in an RPG attack. Despite losing an eye and the hearing in one ear, Hank Fleming maintains a positive attitude and is determined to live his life to the fullest. Now medically discharged from the Army, Hank meets Cindy Giordano, his foster brother’s biological sister, and falls hard for her.

The road to happily-ever-after is paved with plenty of potholes. For Hank, latent PTSD manifests itself in terrible dreams that make him relive the day of the explosion and mourn the deaths of the men who were killed. And for Cindy, betrayal by a former fiancé keeps her heart locked up tightly. Hank hopes he is the key that will free Cindy and allow her to love again.

MORE THAN A SOLDIER is the second book in the Veteran’s Heart series. Though a stand-alone novel, characters from A SOLDIER FINDS HIS WAY are carried over and several new ones are introduced.

So, what was my inspiration for writing about a wounded warrior with PTSD? As a child my room was next to my parent’s bedroom. Dad worked nights and slept during the day. I would often hear him cry out in his sleep, reliving the horrors of WWII. For him, sleep opened a gateway to a forever war. Lodged in the vertebra in the back of his neck he carried an inoperable piece of shrapnel. While the headaches it initially caused had disappeared over the years, the protruding lump served as a reminder of the battles he’d fought and the men he’d served beside.

MORE THAN A SOLDIER cannot erase the ongoing trauma my father lived, but it serves as a reminder to me—and hopefully others—of the sacrifice of our military. And in some small way as a tribute to my dad and the hero he was.

There’s more than one way to be a
hero . . .
Former Special Forces soldier Hank
Fleming is living a safe, quiet life in upstate New York, but there
are days he isn’t sure he’s going to make it. The sole survivor
of a devastating grenade attack in Afghanistan, he is still scarred,
physically and emotionally. He hangs on to his faith and tries to
keep moving forward, waiting for the day that something—or
someone—can make him feel whole again.
Cindy Giordano is searching too—for
her biological family and a fresh start. When her journey to find her
brother, Edward, leads to Hank’s front door, she is instantly drawn
to Hank . . . and instantly wary. With her ex-fiancé’s betrayal
still fresh in her mind, friendship is about all she can muster.
When shadows from Cindy’s past
threaten, Hank’s protective instincts shift into high gear, and he
realizes everyone has their own battles to fight. But the road to
healing would be much sweeter with the right person by his side . . .

Irene Onorato was born and raised in
Bronx, New York. Her father, a first-generation American whose
parents were born in Italy, was an Army veteran who had served with
the 178th combat engineers during WWII. He told numerous stories of
battles, hardships, tragedies and triumphs. The glimpses he gave into
the hearts of many American warriors would later become the
inspiration for much of Irene’s writings.
In 1972, a few months after graduating
high school, Irene met James Onorato, a soldier who had just returned
from Vietnam. After dating two weeks, they married, raised three
children, and are still happily married today.
Irene and James, both radiation
protection technicians, retired from the nuclear power industry in
2014 and now reside in Louisiana. Readers can visit Irene’s website

Chicken Scratch
The
Sisters, Texas Series Book 1
by
Becki Willis
Genre:
Cozy Mystery

Guest Post from the
Author, Becki Willis

Five years ago, my son was married along the Brazos River, at a rustic ranch venue that was once part of a cotton plantation. The simple blacktop road out front squiggles through the river bottom, weaving past old cotton gins, through white fields ripe with cotton, tracing the graceful bends of the Brazos, and crossing over the iron tracks of a railroad.

On one side of the railroad is a hundred-plus-year old ranch, registered with the State of Texas as a historical landmark. Several interesting-looking old buildings are clustered near the railroad, reminiscent of share croppers’ shacks.

On the other side of the tracks is an old train depot, even though the nearest town is miles away. There is also an active feed mill, with its industrial silos and bins, and an entire railroad at its disposal. The cars stop on site to load/unload their burdens.

Something about the railroad sparked an idea for a story, and I could only imagine how things might have been back in the day, when cotton was king and the rails offered the ultimate source of transportation. I imagined a cotton plantation along the river, so big and so important that the railroad came to them. Before long, I had the back-story for my series. Bertram Randolph was the undisputed cotton king of the Brazos Valley, but he was saddled with two spoilt, selfish, impossible-to-deal-with daughters who constantly feuded with one another. The only way to keep peace was to ultimately give each of them their own namesake town; Juliet’s town lay to the south of the tracks, Naomi’s town to the north. Any chance of the sisters reconciling was forever lost when they both fell in love with the same man. To Juliet, Darwin Blakely gave his name; to Naomi, he gave his child. And with Darwin’s untimely death, the rivalry between the two sisters – and their respective towns – exploded.

The Sisters, Texas Mystery Series is set in the modern-day communities of Naomi and Juliet, and revolves around the citizens (all two thousand of them!) determined to keep that rivalry alive and well.

The main character is Madison Reynolds, who finds herself widowed and penniless at the ripe age of thirty-nine. With her teenage twins in tow, she moves home to live with her eighty-year-old grandmother, the patriarch of Juliet. Granny Bert is a live-wire, full of home-grown wisdom, cantankerous charm, witty sayings, and undying devotion toward her family and her home. Genesis Baker, Maddy’s best friend since childhood, has recently moved back, as well, and now owns a popular café in Naomi.

With her support team firmly in place, Maddy tackles the challenges of starting over as a single mom. To make ends meet, she starts In a Pinch, but many of her clients seem to confuse her services for those of a private investigator. No case is too small, or too quirky, for her to turn down, and she soon finds herself embroiled in a variety of unique mysteries and dangerous situations. Good thing she has Chief of Police Brash deCordova looking out for her, as well as Firefighter Cutter Montgomery and, soon, a growing number of friends and supporters.

Please join us in The Sisters, where you’ll find real-life characters, mystery, and intrigue, tossed together with a touch of romance and a dose of laughter.

Named
2016 Best Mystery Series by Texas Association of Authors.

When
Madison Reynolds finds herself widowed and penniless before forty,
she does the only thing she knows to do – she packs up her teenage
twins and moves back home with her eighty-year-old grandmother. Life
in The Sisters, Texas has not changed much since she’s been gone,
but at least her best friend Genesis is there to soften the
transition back into small-town life.
To
make ends meet, Madison opens In a Pinch Temporary Services.
Her first real client is Ronny Gleason, but when she shows up for the
first day of work at the Gleason Poultry Farm, Madison makes a
gruesome discovery. The dead body she finds belongs to Mr. Gleason.
When a local man is arrested for murder, Madison takes on the job of
proving his innocence. Even though she is not a private investigator,
both mothers are desperate: Lucy Ngyen to clear her son’s name, and
Madison to pay her bills. But as she begins asking questions around
town, her interference is not welcome.
With
a daughter determined to go back to Dallas, a son settling into small
town life, a feisty grandmother who knows all the town gossip, bill
collectors calling, and now someone trying to keep her silent,
Madison has no time for re-kindling her high school crush with police
chief Brash deCordova. She has her hands full just trying to stay
alive.
If
she survives her amateur investigation, Maddy has a decision to make.
Will she go back to her life in Dallas, or will she build a new life
here in The Sisters?

CHICKEN SCRATCH Excerpt:

“You were trespassing on posted property.”
“I didn’t see the sign.”
“Did you happen to notice the fence?”
Madison chose not to comment. With a determined glint in her hazel eyes, she said, “I also overheard them talking about the boss, someone obviously higher up than Ronny Gleason. And I think you’re right. I think this is an organized gambling ring.”
“I’m so glad you approve of my theory. I suppose your years of watching Matlock and CSI qualify you to offer your glowing endorsement?”
With great effort, Madison resisted the urge to stick her tongue out at him.
Brash continued. “Of course, the biggest problem I have with all of this is that you were witness to illegal activity, yet failed to call it in. By failing to report it, a smart Assistance District Attorney could argue your silence makes you an accessory to crime.”
Madison had a quick comeback, along with a charming smile. “A smart Chief of Police would recognize I have valuable information to share and would never dream of pressing charges.”
She knew he was having difficulty maintaining his stoic expression. His eyes glittered with appreciation, but his voice remained gruff. “You should have reported it, Maddy. We might could have caught them in the act.”

When The Stars Fall
The
Sisters, Texas Series Book 2

Madison
Reynolds is rebuilding her life, one obstacle at a time.

But
the building blocks aren’t standard issue: widowed at
thirty-nine…betrayed by her late husband…mother of teenaged
twins…finances in shambles…living with her eighty-year-old
grandmother…still attracted to her teenage crush Brash deCordova,
who just happens to be the Chief of Police in The Sisters…embroiled
in yet another murder mystery… How will she ever get all the blocks
assembled and stacked one upon another, in order to build a future
for herself and her children?

Madison’s
newest client at In a Pinch Temp Service is a
suspicious wife, up against a formidable foe—the lovely Caress
Ellingsworth, former soap opera queen. When the star is murdered and
Madison is eyewitness to the deed, she wonders if the shadowed person
she saw commit the crime might really be her client. Now Madison is
torn between uncovering the truth and keeping her client’s name off
the suspect list.
Caress
is not the only star in town these days. With a little help from
Granny Bert and Madison’s best friend Genesis, the popular
television show Home Again arrives, with some crazy notion about
remodeling the Big House for Maddy and her twins. The problem is,
Madison can’t afford to buy the house, much less pay to have it
renovated. No matter how tempting the offer—or how tempting the
show’s star, Nick Vilardi—Madison sees it as just another block
that will not fit.
Even
if she manages to stack the blocks in a semblance of order, even if
she climbs her way up and reaches for the sky, what happens when the
stars fall?

Stipulations and Complications
The Sisters, Texas
Series Book 3

Life
comes with stipulations.

If you want to fit into last year’s
swimsuit, you can’t eat ice cream and a Gennydoodle cookie after
every meal.

If you want to go to Heaven, you can’t raise Hell on
Saturday night and show up in the church pew on Sunday morning,
hungover and reeking of cheap perfume.
And if you want your
hundred-year-old mansion completely updated and remodeled for free,
you have to sacrifice.
Stipulations, my child.
-Granny Bert Cessna

Now
that Madison Reynolds has agreed to be part of a reality-television
home remodeling show, she barely recognizes her own life. The show is
an instant success, bringing cameras and reporters right to her
doorstep, eager to chronicle her every move in the small Texas town.
With In
a Pinch Temporary Services hovering on the thin line between
prosperity and extinction, Madison takes on another quirky case, this
one concerning a property dispute. Complications turn a simple
mission into all-out danger, and once again Madison finds herself
embroiled in an intriguing mystery.
Between
her cantankerous grandmother, a moody teenage daughter, an
ever-starving son, townspeople eager to grab their fifteen minutes of
fame at her expense, and a mother-in-law appalled by her undignified
foray into the public eye, Madison had her hands full, long before
the skeleton was discovered. Now work is interrupted at the Big
House, ghost stories abound, more secret passages have been
unearthed, and someone is trying to scare her away from her new home.
What she needs
is another session of Brash deCordova’s unique
‘river therapy’… not to mention the kiss that eludes them with
frustrating regularity.
What she gets
is another round of stipulations and complications.
