Please tell us about yourself.
I am the stereotypical farmer’s daughter. My playmates included ducks, horses, dogs, and the boy on the farm next door. We always started out playing house, but it ended up in war, every time.
My mother taught me to read when I was four, so I stopped following her around and asking questions. This resulted in me reading the first grade reader on the first day of school telling everyone the boring truth about Dick and Jane.
Books aimed at children at that time emphasized good manners and perfect behavior. I decided to write my own stories throwing in spies, robbers, stampedes and a hot air balloon. The hot air balloon was courtesy of The Wizard of Oz.
Currently, all my children are grown and off on their own. I am semi-retired from teaching, although I do substitute now and then, which provides me with excellent child dialogue. My husband is a big help with my writing. He’s my first reader, copy editor and proofer and runs my website.
My husband helps me, too. Aren’t we lucky? Who are your favorite authors and favorite genres?
I read across the board, but usually avoid horror genre. My favorite genre is romantic suspense. Jayne Ann Krentz is my favorite author. I also read all her pen names including Jayne Castle and Amanda Quick.
She is one of my favorite authors as herself and as Amanda Quick. What’s your favorite way to relax and recharge? Hobbies?
I am a bathtub reader. Nothing better than a bubble bath, a glass of wine, and a great book. Gardening is one of my passions, both vegetable and flowers. Spring is one of my favorite time of year because all my spring bulbs come up.
Do you have a favorite quote that sums up how you feel about life?
In the movie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, the main character refers to a well-known Indian saying: Everything works out in the end. If it hasn’t worked out, then it’s not the end.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing since six and been a published novelist for the last three years. Before that, I wrote short stories and how to articles for the previous twenty years appearing in magazines from Ladies Home Journal to Guideposts.
Where do you prefer to write? Do you need quiet, music, solitude? PC or laptop?
In the winter, I prefer to write in bed because it gets cold. In the summer, I can move outside under an umbrella to shield the computer from the sunlight. Noise doesn’t bother me too much, although sometimes I like period music when writing a historical.
Are you a plotter or a panzer?
Initially, I was totally panzer, but I’m becoming more of a plotter to stay within word requirements.
Do you use real events or persons in your stories or as an inspiration for stories?
I use everything from overheard conversations, weird newspaper stories, what if scenarios, photographs, and brainstorming with my husband.
Do you set daily writing goals? Word count? Number of chapters? Do you get a chance to write every day?
My goal is to write 1,000 words every day, which may not sound like much, but it adds up.
What do you hope your writing brings to readers?
I want my stories to bring both pleasure and escape from the everyday routine of life.
What long-term plans do you have for your career?
LOVE OR DECEPTION is the start in this series. Book two is PUSHED. It’s in the writing stage. I have another suspense that is in edits, EXPOSED. It should come out in late June.
I also have the first book in a cozy mystery series coming out in the summer. Both my husband and I write The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries under the name, M.C. Scott.
My family and I embraced this quote after we saw the movie. What advice would you give to unpublished authors?
Keep writing, you never know when you’re going to need a body of work.
Such worthwhile advice! Wish I ‘d known that many years ago. What’s something about you that would surprise or shock readers.
I witnessed a murder while traveling in Paris, very scary.
That must have been frightening! I hope you can at least use it in a book—or several. You said LOVE OR DECEPTION is the first of a series. Does the series have a name?
It is the first book in the Suspicious Circumstances series.

Amy awakes to find her husband Mark missing, along with her memories. Her recollections of Mark include a whirlwind courtship and a beach wedding. Amy is determined to uncover what happened to her husband. How could a man who loved her so intensely just walk away? The police have no interest in finding Mark. They reason he wasn’t ready for marriage and he walked. She wonders if his disappearance could be associated with her work.
Ryan, a close friend and co-worker, assists her in piecing together her missing memories. As the pair work together, they find that Amy’s actual past reveals a scenario that is so horrifying that it forces them on the run, not knowing whom they can trust. Will Amy’s newly recalled memories prove fatal to both her and Ryan?
How about an excerpt from LOVE AND DECEPTION?
Pushing off the bed, he stood and walked toward her, placing both hands on her shoulders. “You have no clue how beautiful you are. I find your intelligence incredibly alluring, but I think Dirk was interested in you because you were the only female in the building who wasn’t panting after him.”
He called her beautiful again. Not the most effusive compliment she’d ever received, but then she hadn’t received many. All her compliments dealt with her work as opposed to her appearance. Theron didn’t employ models for their research. The chemicals used in the labs, along with safety features, made flowing hair, skirts, and even cosmetics undesirable. Of course, the skirts were more about the searches. No woman wanted to have the guard pushing the metal wand underneath her skirt during the twice-daily searches, even if in many ways, they were just drones for the company.
“That might have been true. I can’t recall why I went out with him. I do remember him to be lacking in intellect.”
Ryan’s lips twisted up in a smirk. “Yeah, that’s what all the women want in a guy. I am not totally sure if they care if he can talk.”
His hands still rested on her shoulders. It wasn’t uncomfortable. She considered it reassuring, but puzzling. Her memory might be lacking in many aspects, but she was sure they were not this touchy feely with each other. Ryan’s anxiety showed in the way he held his shoulders. Odd that she’d known that, but they’d been working together almost a third of her life. “What is it? There is something you want to say, and it’s troubling you.”
