LIMITED TIME 99¢ SALE!

By Caroline Clemmons

Moving into Fall brings expectations and refreshes memories of changing leaves, chrysanthemums, cooler weather, family gatherings, and certain foods—what folks call “comfort” foods. I’ll include a couple of recipes later in this newsletter.

Have you ever thrown a coin into a fountain or wishing well and made a wish? If so, did your wish come true? When I was writing this blog, I discovered there are dozens of sites online that sell special wishing well coins (most of them plastic). You can even rent a wishing well for a party.

Sometimes our wishes come true, but with unexpected complications. That’s what happened to Serena Winter in WINTER’S WISH, now on sale for only 99¢ through Thanksgiving Day.

Here’s the description for WINTER’S WISH:

None of the eligible men in the town of Hopeful, Colorado appeals to Serena Winter. Working at the mercantile owned by her aunt and uncle, she meets everyone in town. Her aunt warns her against falling for a prospector as they always leave town in the spring. One full moon, Serena quietly leaves her aunt’s home and drops a coin into the town wishing well. Her wish was she would attract an interesting man. She should have been more careful about wording her wish.

Brent Adams has filed on his claim and brought gold ore with him to the assay office in Hopeful. He fears taking it to an assayer closer to his mine will attract claim jumpers and robbers. He’s immediately charmed by Serena. Now he has a new fear—incurring her anger when she learns the secrets he’s withholding.

When Serena is lost in freezing weather, Brent frantically searches for her. If he can find her in time, can they reconcile their differences and find lasting love?

WINTER’S WISH is a sweet western historical romance available from Amazon in e-boo and print, and is free in Kindle Unlimited.

Thank you for encouraging me and for reading my books. Your friendship means the world to me. As Lester Holt says at the end of the evening news, "Stay safe and be kind to each other.” Kindness is powerful!

RECIPE AND 99¢ SALE

By Caroline Clemmons

Perhaps you’ve noticed I’ve participated in numerous multi-author series over the years. One that proved less like a series and more like a single title was CHARLOTTE’S CHALLENGE. In this sweet western historical romance, widowed Charlotte Dunn struggles to save her ranch from a vicious neighbor.

Usually in a multi-author series, the releases are set in a clearly defined time schedule with the series’ authors cross-promoting each release for multiple benefit. Something went wrong with this series and that didn’t happen. So, poor Charlotte has sat on the book shelf all alone. Bless her heart.

Now you have a chance to rescue her from loneliness by taking advantage of this limited time 99¢ sale. I believe it’s a good story that you’ll enjoy.

Here’s the blurb:

A widow determined to save the family ranch…

A man who inherited cursed pirate gold…

They must combine efforts to defeat an evil man.

Bret Craig is a wealthy descendant of one of the crew of The Golden Fleece. Over a century ago the merchant ship had prevailed against pirates carrying a treasure of cursed Inca gold. The legacy promises retribution against anyone who misuses the treasure. Bret has heard the story all his life, but he believes the tale is a myth and that he’s in no danger if he spends the money selfishly. Ignoring his sister’s warning, he sets out for a grand adventure heading west.

Widowed former mail-order bride Charlotte Dunn is in danger of losing her family's ranch. She lost her husband to a rustler’s bullet when the rustlers stole half her cattle and killed both ranch hands. When she and her stepsons rescue a man who fell from his horse, they soon learn the man has amnesia. From his saddlebags, they discover his name is Bret Craig. Charlotte nurses Bret, manages the ranch, and cares for her three stepchildren she loves. No sooner does Bret regain his memory than they learn the remainder of the herd has been rustled. Bret must reconsider his priorities, especially in light of the romance gently blossoming between Charlotte and him.

Can Charlotte and Bret save the ranch and recover the stolen cattle?

LIMITED TIME SALE AND A RECIPE

By Caroline Clemmons

Moving into fall brings expectations and memories of changing leaves, chrysanthemums, cooler weather, and certain foods. One of those (for me) is crisp red delicious apples. Apples grow in many states—in fact Hero and I used to have a row of 16 delicious apple trees, 1 Granny Smith apple tree, and 1 crabapple tree when we lived in a rural area. When buying the fruit from a grocery store, I usually choose red delicious apples. I suppose it’s a preference ingrained in me by my mom, who always chose Washington red delicious apples when she could.

That reminds me of the only book I’ve written that takes place in Washington, PATIENCE, BRIDE OF WASHINGTON. I’ll bet you saw that subject coming, didn’t you? PATIENCE is on sale for 99¢ for a limited time!

This book came about due to an idea by the brilliant (and fun) Kirsten Osbourne. She wanted a series of a mail order bride in every state.  Books were released in the order in which the states joined the Union. Those of us who knew about the series clamored for the state of our choice—or our second choice if the first was taken. I had wanted Texas, but didn’t choose in time. This turned out to be a good thing, as I learned a lot of interesting things about Washington.

Here's the blurb:

Travel to Victorian America in 1890 for a humorous romance about two people destined for one another, but after a turbulent getting acquainted period. This book is sweet and wholesome.

After a fire destroys the factory where Patience Eaton worked followed by a succession of job failures, she travels from Massachusetts to Washington to marry the man her father chose via a matchmaker. While Andrew Kincaid appears to be a very nice man, he’s older than her father and not someone she wants to marry. Her prospective groom places her in a respectable boarding house and agrees to give her a job in the office of his commercial apple orchard so she can learn about his life and business. But working alongside her handsome future stepson presents unexpected complications.

Two years ago, an unjust accusation ruined Stone Kincaid’s chance at happiness. Now he concentrates all his energy on building the family business. When he meets his prospective stepmother, he’s angry that his father cares so little for his mother’s memory that he sent for a mail order bride younger than Stone. He believes Patience to be interested in his father’s fortune. Stone plans to keep an eye on the attractive woman who’s slated to become his stepmother.

Can two people working at cross purposes arrive at a compromise?

99¢ SALE AND $5 AMAZON GIFT CARD FOR SOMEONE!

By Caroline Clemmons

I’m still celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day. MURDOCH’S BRIDE is only 99¢ today through March 22nd. MURDOCH’S BRIDE is book 3 of my Loving A Rancher Series. MURDOCH’S BRIDE was born as part of Deborah Holland’s Kindle World, in which I enjoyed writing in tremendously. But then Amazon killed the Kindle Worlds. (Still so sad that happened.) Details for the prize are at the end of this post.

MURDOCH’S BRIDE won an Amazon Bestseller bonus. Yes, Amazon gives bonuses for bestsellers. I don’t mean every orange ribbon you see. The bestsellers to which I’m referring are books that meet some higher criteria known only to Amazon. I’m sure my book was at the bottom of the scale, but I was thrilled to get a bonus!

When the Kindle Worlds were killed by Amazon, I changed the characters and place names that belonged to Deborah Holland and her Kindle World and kept the book in publication. This is such a fun book I couldn’t abandon it. Recently, I changed the covers of books in the Loving A Rancher Series. If you haven’t yet read MURDOCH’S BRIDE, now is your chance to do so at a bargain price.

Warning: MURDOCH’S BRIDE is a sweet, clean western historical romance, but it does contain a curse word, which is damn. As you can see in the excerpt, sometimes it’s appropriate.

Stranded in the snow…

Charity Kelso is accompanying her fussy Aunt Edwina from New York to Oregon when their train is wrecked and the passenger cars burn. Cottonwood Springs doesn’t have a hotel, so passengers are parceled out to townsfolk’s homes. No one wants anything to do with complaining Aunt Edwina. That also leaves Charity and their newly widowed friend Amelia nowhere to stay until the tracks are repaired. A new blizzard is headed their way, so what are they to do?

Logan Murdoch and his brother came to town to restock before the next storm arrives. Against Logan’s better judgment, the sheriff convinces him to take three “innocent, stranded women” to Murdoch Ranch. Other than their housekeeper-cook, a woman hasn’t set foot in the Murdoch home in the twenty years since Logan’s mother abandoned them. He doesn’t expect his father to welcome these unwanted visitors.

Both Charity and Logan are surprised at the events that unfold. How could this have happened?

https://www.amazon.com/Murdochs-Bride-Loving-Rancher-Book-ebook/dp/B07G2JY77F/

The Murdoch men came inside as Charity came down the stairs from fetching a clean handkerchief for her aunt.

Logan said, “Ornery old cow.”

Charity gave Edwina her hanky and stomped toward him. “Mr. Murdoch, may I speak to you privately?”

Surprise showed on his face. “Uh, sure. Guess we can go into the office.”

He led the way to a room she hadn’t seen, obviously where the ranch records were kept. “Will this do, Miss Kelso?”

She closed the door behind them. “Logan Murdoch, you have your nerve calling my aunt names. For your information, she’s had a horrible life and no one, not her selfish parents, not her cheating husband, not even her only son ever loved her. And, that includes my father, who’s her younger brother.”

He stood looking poleaxed. “I never said—”

She stabbed at his chest with her forefinger. “I heard what you said. You called her an ornery old cow. She may be difficult sometimes, but if you knew everything about her you’d understand and be patient and forgiving. You can make fun of me all you want, emphasizing that I’m Miss and not Mrs., but you treat her with the respect someone her age deserves.”

He moved her hand away from his chest and leaned into her face. “You might try practicing some of the charity you’re named for and at least give me a chance to defend myself. I was talking about our cow. In case you haven’t noticed, I have milk all over my legs and boots because she knocked against the pail.”

Heat rushed to Charity’s cheeks. She stepped back. “Oh.”

He stood with his hands on his hips. “That’s a good comeback, Miss Kelso.”

She sensed a blush’s heat spreading across her face and neck. “Once again, I must ask your pardon.”

“When you’re angry, sparks fly from those big blue eyes. Reckon I’m lucky I wasn’t set on fire.” He closed the short distance between them and he brushed a hand gently along her cheek.

She knew he was going to kiss her but stood frozen in place. He tilted her head up to meet his and pressed his lips on hers. She thought he would withdraw then, but his arms were around her, pulling her closer. As if they had minds of their own, her arms encircled him.

When they broke apart, he stared at her with a horrified expression. “Damn.”

With the realization she’d cooperated in the kiss and even enjoyed it, horror shot through her. “My stars.”

She took a deep breath and left the office.

To enter for the  $5 AMAZON GIFT CARD, leave a comment telling how long it had been since a woman had been in the ranch house. The winner will be chosen randomly from the commenters.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Stay safe, be kind, and keep reading!

DESPERATE IN DELAWARE 99¢ SALE AND NEW COVER

DESPERATE IN DELAWARE

By Caroline Clemmons

Don’t you love the new cover for DESPERATE IN DELAWARE? To celebrate the new cover, the ebook is on sale for 99¢ from January 20th to midnight January 26th. You’ll find there is also a print version, and the book is enrolled in Kindle Unlimited.

Amazon buy link https://www.amazon.com/Desperate-Delaware-Yours-Truly-Lovelorn-ebook/dp/B089RW8WV8

I love writing anytime, but especially when the story is set in Texas, my home state. Of course, not every man in Texas is tall, dark, and handsome. Those in my books are, though, and so is my personal hero, my husband. I even call him Hero when I talk about him. Hero fits him in many ways!

DESPERATE IN DELAWARE is set in a part of North Central Texas that I find particularly interesting. Hero and I went on a couple of the Palo Pinto County Historical Society Tours. We loved them. A couple of places on the tour have become sites in several of my historical western romances.

About the Book

Mina Fae Stapleton vows she will wait no longer! Since her parents’ death she’s been living with her sister’s family. She helps care for her sister’s home and her sister’s adorable children. But, she wonders when she’ll have her own husband and children. There is not even one eligible man near her age in her small town. She can’t avoid hearing the snickers and hurtful remarks—old maid, spinster, on the shelf. When her cousin sends her a newspaper clipping from a Yours Truly: The Lovelorn’s column, she is surprised when the letter to the columnist reads as if she had written it. That’s the catalyst she needs—she decides to follow the Lovelorn’s advice and change her location. She goes to Texas to visit her cousin. She refuses to watch her life disappear until she’s left with only regrets!

Austin Wright hates to admit he’s lonely. He wants a wife and children, but there’s always time—isn’t there? At the urging of Mina Fae Stapleton’s cousin, he attends a party given to welcome Mina to Texas. At the party, he realizes he has to speak quickly or lose his chance with Mina Fae.

Nothing is that easy. Misguided miners threaten not only Austin’s ranch, but all those below the supposed gold mine. Austin tries to convince the two men there’s no gold, but their avarice has convinced them to take dangerous measures. Will he be able to reason with them in time?

Excerpt

After a harrowing stagecoach ride, they arrived at Palo Pinto. When the stage stopped, she waited until the other passengers stepped out before she climbed down. There was Cindy to greet her. The tall man with Cindy must be her husband, Bert Kennedy.

Cindy ran forward and hugged her. “I’m so glad you’re here. I know you’re exhausted but I promise you’ll be glad you’ve come.”

Mina laughed with pleasure at seeing her cousin once more. “I hope so because I’ll never ride that stage again. Well, not for a while anyway.” She stood on tiptoe to accept Bert’s kiss to her cheek.

“I’m happy to finally meet you.” He grinned at her. “We left the twins with our housekeeper so we’d better load your trunks and get home before she gives notice.”

Bert called to a tall man standing nearby. “Austin, make yourself useful and give me a hand with this luggage.”

The man, who wasn’t bad looking, gave her a long scan from head to toe and back up, then stared from the pile of luggage back to her. “You plan on opening a store or did you just bring everything you ever owned?”

Austin Wright

She started to give him the sharp side of her tongue but Cindy interrupted.

“Miss Mina Faye Stapleton, this is our good friend, Austin Wright. Austin, Mina is my favorite cousin and she’s moving to Palo Pinto.”

Mina’s pique evaporated. She laughed and nudged Cindy. “Are you still stealing my line? I’m the one who only has one cousin while you have two.”

She sobered and glared at the rude man. “How do you do, Mr. Wright?”

“I do fine, Miss Stapleton. Good thing I’m here. Bert could have killed himself if he’d tried to load these trunks alone.”

As if the man hadn’t left Mina aghast with his latest rudeness, Cindy linked arms with Mina’s. “Let’s leave them to their job and walk to the house. It’s only a short way.”

JOSEPHINE ON SALE FOR 99¢

By Caroline Clemmons

To celebrate new covers for my popular Bride Brigade Series, JOSEPHINE, book one, is now 99¢ at Amazon!

Here’s the url:

https://www.amazon.com/Josephine-Bride-Brigade-Book-1-ebook/dp/B015M4FJUY

Everyone deserves a makeover once in a while, even a fictional heroine. So, Charlene Raddon at Silver Sage Book Covers created beautiful new covers for the seven ladies of the Bride Brigade. I hope you’ll agree the covers are irresistible. If you haven’t read this acclaimed sweet historical western series, here’s your opportunity to read the first book at a bargain price.

The remaining six books are only $2.99 in ebook, and are also in print and are FREE through Kindle Unlimited. I set the paperback at the lowest price allowed by Amazon. Now, Amazon has put two on sale, Prudence and Cassandra.

The bachelors of Tarnation, Texas threaten to leave unless marriageable women come to town. Wealthy widow Lydia Harrison and her friend Sophia Gaston go to Richmond, Virginia, where Lydia was raised. Lydia interviews young women who respond to her newspaper notice, but not everyone is accepted. The seven girls travel to Tarnation and live with her until they find a husband. She gives receptions, dances, and dinners so the women can meet the suitable bachelors she has invited to participate. Each story is different, but most of the characters get at least a mention in the other books. Here are the books and summaries:

Book 1, JOSEPHINE Josephine Nailor has good reasons not to trust men, especially those who hold an office. She isn’t even certain she wants to marry, but takes a job assisting the owner of the mercantile.

The series url is https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Bride+Brigade+Series&crid=OXLUQD1NBB60

Book 2, ANGELINE Angeline Chandler was the victim of a lecher forcing her, who abandoned her when he learned she was pregnant. Instead of sympathizing with her, her parents evicted her from their lives. After Lydia literally saves her, Angeline goes to work taking care of the recently widowed minister's toddler son.

Book 3, CASSANDRA Cassandra Bradford was once wealthy, but circumstances changed and she endured the humiliation of working as a servant in her former home. She keeps the pain a secret, but  vows she will marry a wealthy man or remain single. *Amazon has put this paperback on sale for $3.81, and I don’t know why they have done so or why the price is such an odd number. They practically own the world, so they can do as they wish. I have to admit I do most of my shopping with them.

Book 4, OPHELIA Ophelia Shipp is the most spiritual and sweetest of the seven girls. She has difficulty letting go of her overzealous father’s teaching—after she heals from the last beating he gave her before she left home.

Book 5, RACHEL Rachel Ross has been betrayed and framed for something she did not do. Her family asks her to leave because her presence is an embarrassment. She finds a job with former Pinkerton Agent turned freighter.

Book 6, LORRAINE Lorraine writes stories and sells them under a pseudonym. She longs to find a man who will admire her writing ability and also her. In Tarnation, she finds a job assisting the newspaper owner. But he believes only men can write “real” news.

Book 7, PRUDENCE Prudence Lynch left her home after her grandmother died. Folks there labeled her a witch—except when they needed her folk healing to help them or her midwife skills to deliver a baby. She plans to continue her folk healing and midwifery, hopefully with more acceptance. She and Lydia are kidnapped. *Amazon has put this paperback on sale for $4.87, surprise to me.

There you have a very brief summary. If you’ve already read these books, please tell me who your favorite heroine was. Who was your favorite hero?

In the meantime, please don’t forget to read GENTRY AND THE MAIL ORDERBRIDE  Rancher Gentry McRae marries a woman his late partner willed to him. https://www.amazon.com/Gentry-Texas-Country-Order-Brides-ebook/dp/B0B6YN6QHK

and JESSE AND THE MAIL ORDER BRIDE. Sheriff Jesse Cameron marries a woman on the run. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BD64JC1D?ref_=pe_3052080_276849420

Right now, I’m writing the book about Quinn McRae, Gentry’s younger brother.

All Aboard The Love Train …

The current release in the Love Train Series is PENELOPE from Heather Blanton, released on June 15th.

Here’s the description:

She’s about to say, “I do,” when a telegram tells her to run.

Penelope Barker believes in marrying for love … love of food on the table and a roof overhead. Marrying a crime boss then might mean a little scandal, but it also means plenty of hot meals, soft beds, and decent clothes.

Mere minutes before the wedding, Penelope receives a telegram from her sister warning her that the groom is a killer and she must run. Trusting her sister, and admonished not to trust anyone else, Penelope dons a nun’s habit and jumps a train to Misery, Wyoming.

Lucius “Lucky” Burnett is a range detective—a term synonymous with hired gun. His wake of bodies never bothered him until an innocent child was killed. Now, Lucky believes he’s not decent company for anyone, especially a good woman.

Hired by the Lodgepole Ranch to find rustlers, he meets the puzzling, sassy nun on the train and the more they’re around each other in Misery, the more the attraction grows. There’s not a thing he can do about it, of course.

But when trouble finds Penelope, the truth behind her habit sparks gut-wrenching choices … for them both.

Will the sacrifices for love bring them what they want … or keep them apart for good.

Ivy Pembrooke couldn’t take it anymore! She wanted nothing more to do with her conniving uncle. In fact, she made it a goal to get rid of the Pembrooke name! The question was, how? The minute they found out who she was, they’d want nothing more to do with her. Running away was her only option.

Darius Jones made a promise. Quit the ranch he worked for in Colorado, return to Oregon, and take his half-blind mother to Clear Creek. The doctor there was said to work miracles, and Mama needed all the help she could get. But his mother wasn't the only one. A passenger in the form of a petite, blonde-haired spit fire was going to be the death of him. Literally. Was someone trying to do her harm or was trouble her middle name? Yet there was something about her, and doggone if he didn't try to help. He just hoped  doing so didn't get them both killed.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY 99¢ SALE - THE TEXAN'S IRISH BRIDE!

Top ‘O The Morning! It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day, so I’ve the perfect bargain read for you. THE TEXAN’S IRISH BRIDE is on sale for 99¢ from March 11 to 17. I love this book and hope if you haven’t read it, you’ll take advantage of this sale!

https://www.amazon.com/Texans-Irish-Bride-McClintocks-Book-ebook/dp/B008V1UG54/

Heat rating is PG18. Although most of my recent books are sweet and G rated, be aware that this book contains mild sex scenes between the married couple. In addition, there are a few curse words.

Most of all, THE TEXAN’S IRISH BRIDE is a compelling story of finding love unexpectedly, of family values, and of overcoming prejudices. Dallas McClintock, the hero, is truly heroic—at least, in my opinion. Cenora and her family members have to learn how to fit in to achieve the life for which they’ve yearned.

This book has a lot of reviews, and most are very positive with five stars. One that surprised me gave the book a bad review because of “all that Irish stuff” in it even though the story was good. May I refer that person to the title, THE TEXAN’S IRISH BRIDE. Yes, there is dialogue that includes the Irish dialect. There are Irish blessings and superstitions. Having uneducated characters from the 1800’s Ireland speak with perfect diction and use proper grammar would be wrong.

Ireland is one of my husband’s and my favorite places we’ve been. After visiting Ireland and hearing about Irish Travelers, I was drawn to their quaint carts, strange cant [language], and their sad plight. The more I studied about them, the more fascinated I became.

Irish Travelers are descended from medieval minstrels and poets who traveled Ireland telling myths and stories. At that time, they were respected and learned. Travelers have their own language, Sheldroo, which is linked to medieval language. At the time of the English occupation of Ireland, many Irish families were turned out of their homes. At that time, it was illegal for Irish to learn to read and write—only the English could attend schools and universities. There were a few “hedge schools” but the teachers faced serious penalties if caught.

The homeless Irish families drifted in with the traveling minstrels and eventually became the Irish Travelers. They camped in fields. Later they acquired tents, then the colorful wagons that resemble gypsy wagons. Modern Travelers we saw in Ireland used RV’s. They are not gypsies. Gypsies are Romany, who originated in India and spread across the Western world. Travelers also have spread throughout the Western world.

Ah, forgive me. I could go on for hours.

Here’s a description of THE TEXAN’S IRISH BRIDE:

Cenora Rose O’Neill knows her father somehow arranged the trap for Dallas, but she agrees to wed the handsome stranger. She’d do anything to protect her family, and she wants to save herself from the Irish Traveler bully, Tom Williams. A fine settled man like Dallas will rid himself of her soon enough, but at least she and her family will be safely away from Tom.

Texas rancher Dallas McClintock has no plans to wed for several years. Right now, he’s trying to establish himself as a successful horse breeder. Severely wounded rescuing Cenora from kidnappers, Dallas is taken to her family’s wagon to be tended.  He is trapped into marrying Cenora, but he is not a man who goes back on his word. His wife has a silly superstition for everything, but passion-filled nights with her make up for everything—even when her wild, eccentric family drives him crazy.

Here’s an excerpt to tempt you set at Dallas and Cenora’s wedding feast (Aoife is Cenora’s mother):

Four girls danced, but only one drew his attention. Shoulders straight and feet flying, Cenora met his glance, then broke away from the other dancers to perform only a few yards from him.

Dallas raised his gaze where Aoife directed.

Catcalls sounded nearby. She ignored them but gave a toss of her head. Her hair had come unbound, and her act sent her fiery hair awhirl. Light from the blazing campfire cast an aura-like radiance around her. Lantern glow overhead reflected her eyes sparked with merriment, challenge, and something mysterious he couldn’t name.

No longer the delicate china doll, her wild beauty called to him, mesmerized him. He visualized her brilliant tresses spread across a pillow, her milky skin bared only for him. His body responded, and savage desire shot through him. Surprised at the depth of his reaction, he wondered if her performance in bed would parallel the unbridled nature of her dance.

Good Lord, could this glorious woman truly be his wife? And if so, heaven help him, what on earth was he to do with her?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Here’s an Irish blessing for you:
