Some truths are worth dying for.

Ultimate Justice

K-9 Special Ops Book 3

by Tee O’ Fallon

Genre: Thriller, Romantic Suspense

Some truths are worth dying for.

While tracking down an escaped felon, FBI Special Agent Evan McGarry and his K-9, Blue, uncover a smoking hot lead on the location of dozens of missing children―including Evan's own sister. The shocking discovery reopens cold cases throughout Colorado, along with painful wounds and the heartbreaking guilt Evan's kept buried for decades.

Three years ago, hospital custodian Marlie Foxe's world imploded, causing her to cut herself off from the world. But when one of the missing boys turns up at her hospital, he only allows Marlie to get close. Now, Evan needs her help with the boy―and he won't take no for an answer. When she finally agrees to work with him, Evan suspects there's more to the woman than she's letting on. She's hiding something. The question is what.

As Evan and Marlie unearth a cult targeting runaways, they're forced to confront not only dangerous criminals but the truths they've both been avoiding―including the blistering passion they can no longer deny. But when more children disappear, they'll have to risk more than just their hearts.

Each book in the K-9 Special Ops series is STANDALONE:
* Tough Justice
* Burning Justice
* Ultimate Justice

“Ultimate Justice is romantic suspense done right! It has great characters, a riveting plot, and sizzling romance. Tee O’Fallon’s law enforcement background shines through in the realistic and suspenseful plot… The story moves at a brisk pace that will keep the pages flying… This is one of my favorite books of the year and Tee O’Fallon is an author to seek out.” – Just Another Damn Book Blog

“Evan arched a brow. Liar. The woman looked anything but happy.

Her knuckles were white where she had her long blond braid in a

death grip, and the smooth skin over her carotid pulsed rapidly. She shot what he could

swear was a panicked look at the door. Bottom line…Marlie Foxe looked ready to bolt

faster than a deer on opening day of hunting season.

Her deep blue gaze met his, and he was struck by the sad, haunted

look in hers. He’d seen that look. It was the same one he’d seen in the mirror on his

own face and those of his parents in the days and months after Gracie disappeared. He

wondered if it would ever stop.

Now, for the first time in twenty-four years, he was, potentially, on

the verge of discovering the answer to his family’s burning question: what happened to

their daughter, his sister?

If only he wasn’t exhausted. Make that totally beat to shit. He’d

barely slept, and then only because he’d had to.

In the two days he’d been waiting to interview Noah, he’d fully

briefed his SAIC—Special Agent in Charge—the FBI director via Zoom, the U.S.

Attorney’s Office in Denver, gotten an arrest warrant for Francis Manello and served

another search warrant at the man’s house. He and a team of agents had tossed the

house from top to bottom. Forensics was dumping every scrap of information on

Manello’s computer, but all Evan could think about was that Polaroid. He still couldn’t

believe it, but it was her—Gracie—wearing the same pink shirt she’d had on the last

time he’d seen her. Guilt squeezed his heart tighter than a bank vault door.

Focus, dammit! Focus!

“Blue, come.” He hitched his head to the dog who’d been his

partner for more than four years.

As Blue trotted to the bed, Evan pointed, and his dog situated

himself between Marlie and the bed and rested his head on the edge of the mattress.

Despite Blue’s size, Marlie didn’t cringe or back away.

“Can I pet him?” Noah looked at Evan expectantly.

“You bet. That’s what I brought him for.” Pretty much every kid

Noah’s age wanted a dog. A dog’s attention and comfort were great for improving

emotional health, especially after a traumatic experience. The only thing necessary was

for the dog to be gentle and friendly, which Blue was. Except when hunting down a

homicidal felon.

It wasn’t quite a smile, but the corners of Marlie’s pink, full lips lifted

a fraction as she watched Noah pet Blue. She had the most interesting face he’d ever

seen. Heart-shaped. Yet it was her eyes that drew him in. Eyes were the windows to the

soul, and he wondered about hers.

“He likes having his ears stroked,” Evan said, casting a glance over

his shoulder. The good doctor, who looked eerily like an undertaker, would be back soon

with those extra chairs. Noah didn’t like the man. Getting him out the door, even for a

few minutes, seemed like a stellar idea.

Blue leaned into the boy’s hand and groaned like he’d just scarfed

down a meaty T-bone. The deep rumble in the back of Blue’s throat made Noah giggle.

He hadn’t quite reached adolescence and still had the high-pitched voice of youth.

“Do you like dogs?” he asked, taking the first step in his forensic

interview of the boy: establishing rapport.

He nodded.

In the interest of not towering over the bed, Evan sat in the vacant chair, leaving

Kinnemara, the FBI’s Office for Victim Assistance advocate, standing quietly by the

door.

Normally, he’d approach any interview with methodical calm, but

that Polaroid of his sister made him feel like a powder keg with a little fuse. He wanted

to trash protocol and dive right in. With children, rushing in too quickly could be

disastrous. “Did you ever have a dog before?”

Noah shook his head, his attention still focused on Blue. “I wanted

one, but Sheila and Mike—my foster parents—wouldn’t let me.”

No surprise there. Noah Lund’s background check had included his

former foster parents. Sheila and Mike Hamilton had been too busy peddling drugs out

their back door to care about anyone else. He’d bet they’d only taken Noah in to get

state money for fostering a child. The state’s screening process was seriously flawed.

More like, seriously sucked.

Evan caught Marlie scrutinizing him. The haunted look in her eyes had been

replaced by something else. Suspicion. Still drilling him with those piercing blue eyes,

she rested a hand on Noah’s shoulder, telling him something else—North Metro’s

custodian was protective of the boy. Somehow, in the span of only two days, they’d

formed a bond, one he needed to be cautious of. Perhaps, take advantage of.

“Do you like baseball?” The kid’s pjs were baseball-themed.

“Yeah.” Noah kept petting Blue.

“Me too. I played in school.”

Finally, the boy looked up. “What position?”

“Centerfield. You?”

Noah shrugged. “Don’t know. Never played on a team. Just

with Caleb.”

“Who’s Caleb?” He already knew the kid had no siblings and

no other blood relatives the state was aware of.

“My friend. I think he got caught. He—”

Caught?

Squealing came from the hallway as Dr. Strobie wheeled in

two more chairs, positioning one beside Evan’s and leaving the other at the foot of the

bed for Kinnemara.

Strobie sat and scooted his chair closer. Noah stopped

petting Blue and tugged the sheet on his lap higher, gripping it tightly in his fists, as if

forming a protective shield. The kid really didn’t like the hospital shrink. If he could eject

the doc from the room, he gladly would. The man’s presence had the same effect as

slapping a strip of duct tape over the boy’s mouth. Strobie had also procured a legal-

size notepad and sat poised with a ballpoint pen in his hand.

This guy was a pain in the ass. The best way to establish

rapport and trust with a child was to show them you were listening and that you cared.

Not by writing down every word.

The Witches of Claw and Fang by Zach Stivers

A hard-edged werewolf crashes into the life of an isolated witch who has temporarily given up her magic. They must overcome their differences and learn to harness their dangerous powers to stop a supernatural evil from corrupting their small town nestled in the Appalachian Mountains.

The Witches of Claw and Fang

by Zach Stivers

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Thriller

Welcome to the cozy mountain town of Pineville, Virginia. It’s autumn, the leaves are gold and orange, the apples are crisp and sweet, town residents are going missing, and a bloodthirsty monster with ten-inch claws is loose in the forest.

Morgan Reaves tries her damndest NOT to use magic. That’s why she hid in Pineville, after all. But now, Morgan needs to dust off her spell-casting skills, ASAP. Problem is, she may have lost her touch.

She has another problem, too, and it smells like wet dog.

Max: AKA the naked man with rip-cord tight muscles that stumbled out of the woods near Morgan’s house, ranting about curses and conspiracies and a coven of witches.

Is he a werewolf? Well, yes. But he’s also the only one who can help her defeat whatever evil is threatening her adopted hometown. That is, if they manage to not kill each other first...

The truck stayed on his tail the whole time. Didn’t try to hide it at all. At first, Max thought he’d just give the truck a run all the way over to the far side of the next mountain, but eventually Max would have to stop to get gas, so he decided he might as well get to it. His drill sergeant, lifetimes ago, had told him, “Ain’t nothing got easier by waiting around worrying about it.”

He circled all the way back to the gas station where he’d first come across the red pickup truck. He pulled in, stopped at the one lonely pump, and got out. He was onto his fourth beer at this point, and he swirled it in his hand as he pumped gas and watched the old truck pull in behind him. Max felt closer to Grim and farther from Maximillian with four beers in him. He shouldn’t be drinking this much, out here in the middle of nowhere, and he knew it. Especially this time of the month.

But knowing you got a problem is a hell of a lot different than managing that problem.

Right after he heard the pump handle click, the gas station lobby lights went dark, followed quickly by the neon ‘Open’ sign. It flickered, then went out.

The red truck inched uncomfortably close to Max’s bumper before the hillbilly brought it to a complete stop and shifted into park. The big man got out, still slow moving, and stared at Max.

Max stared right back.

The breeze had picked up, the wind gusting down off the mountain. The flagpole chain was dangling loose, and the metal clanged loudly against metal.

Clang. Clang. Clang.

“I was worried you might get lost out on the roads this time a night. Wondering if you needed directions?”

Max raised a single eyebrow. “You were following me around for thirty minutes to make sure I didn’t need directions?”

Clang.

“We do that sort of thing out here: help take care of folks. Even city folks that don’t shake hands and have a ten o’clock shadow, dark eyes, and a bad attitude.”

In the distance, an eerie howl carried down the mountain with the wind. It was the same howl Max had heard lifetimes ago, on another continent.

Clang.

Clang.

The hairs on the back of Max’s neck stood upright. His ears tingled. He couldn’t help but cast a furtive glance toward the moon. He swallowed hard and clenched his fists.

Clang.

Clang.

He did not expect that trigger, not here, not now.

Keep it together, Grim.

—Let me out, Maximillian. It’s been so long.—

Goosfraba.

Max looked at the beer in his hand and tipped out the remaining third.

Lose it now, the career’s gone. The bank accounts. This identity. Everything.

—Let me out, Maximillian. You know its time.—

He hadn’t prepared. He was nowhere near any of his hideouts.

Clang. Clang.

Clang. Clang.

Vic chuckled. “Take ‘er easy, I’m not the cops. Don’t have to dump your beer.”

Max wasn’t listening; he was concentrating on his own mind.

The wind gusted. The pole chain clanged even louder.

Clang, clang, clang!

Clang, clang, clang!

What were the odds of running into another one, way out here?

Don’t give in.

—Let me out!—

“You look sick, city boy. Want to hop in my truck? I can take you somewhere safe.”

Goosfraba.

The wind whistled now, pushing trash and debris across the parking lot, sending the metal chain into a frenzy, knocking again and again against the pole.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Max could barely think straight.

“Goosfraba,” he said out loud, holding his hands up and pressing them against his ears. He felt a magnetism from overhead, pulling on his eyes, begging for him to turn and look up.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

“Boy, you need a real man to protect you from the big bad wolves?”

—LET ME EAT HIM, MAXIMILLIAN!—

Fuck it.

Max craned his neck, stared at the moon, felt the cold primal iron rippling below the surface. This time of the month, it was always so easy. Just sitting there in the sky, beaming down an intoxicating, hypnotic ray of pure lunar ecstasy. Max could slip right into Grim, no effort at all. He didn’t really even have to try to turn. He just had to stop resisting.

So, he stopped resisting.

It hurt whenever it happened, but despite the pain, shedding his human flesh felt sublime.

The bones snapped in his fingers, bigger bones splintered in his hands; his wrists dislocated as larger, thicker muscles exploded across his forearms. Jet black fur pushed out like barbwire across his skin. His mouth tore open, stretching wide, the skin at his lips splitting, a bloody gash slicing along his cheek lines to allow his mouth to continue to gape larger and larger.

From the tips of his fingers steel-sharp claws emerged, pushing off his human nails like old, dried skin. His eyes stung and his face felt pinched and a spasm shot down his spine. His calves trembled and his legs gave out and he crumpled toward the ground, head banging off the car door on the way down.

A moment later he stood back up, over nine-feet-tall, all pain forgotten.

Zach Stivers lives with his wife in Virginia, at the foot of the Shenandoah National Park. He loves to tell people they do lots of hiking in their free time, but usually they just go for a short stroll in the woods with their dogs and then stop off for a drink or two at the local brewery. That still counts as hiking, right? He has a degree in English Literature from Florida State University, runs really slow half-marathons, and leads an overly-competitive book club that reads a book a week … or else.

Deaf Row by Ron Franscell

Deaf Row

by Ron Franscell

Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Crime Fiction

Retired from a big-city homicide beat to a small Colorado mountain town, ex-detective Woodrow "Mountain" Bell yearns only to fade away. He's failed in so many ways as a father, a husband, friend, and cop that it might be too late for a meaningful life. When he stumbles across a long-forgotten, unsolved child murder, his first impulse is to let it lie ... but he can't. He's drawn into the macabre mystery when he realizes the killer might still be near. Without help from ambivalent local cops, Bell must overcome the obstacles of time, age, and a lack of police resources by calling upon the unique skills of the end-of-the-road codgers he meets for coffee every morning—a club of old guys who call themselves Deaf Row. Soon, this mottled crew finds itself on a collision course with a serial butcher.

DEAF ROW is more than a tense mystery novel, more than an unnerving psychological thriller drawn from Ron Franscell's career as a bestselling true-crime writer and journalist. It is also a novel of men pushing back against time and death, trying not to disappear entirely. DEAF ROW is a moving, occasionally humorous, portrait of flawed people caught in a web of pain and regret. And although you might think you know where this ghastly case is headed, the climax will blindside you.

...Corporate Park Building, Third Floor
...Irvine, California
"I checked her out, and everything is just as expected." Steve pushed a thin file over the large desk, toward his boss. The man took it and flipped carefully through the pages, mumbling his agreement to the various things he was reading.
"Is she available yet?"
"No, sir, waiting for your approval."
The man gave the file and the photo attached to it another thoughtful look.
"Do you think she's ready?"
"No, sir," Steve answered. "But she could be, with a little bit of time and effort."
"She's so young," the man said, "so young. I hope we're right about this."
"She's not any younger than I was when I met you," Steve replied.
"True."
The man stood up and paced the floor for a few minutes, looking out the windows of his office. The sun was climbing in the sky, inundating their world with the crisp morning light. Everything would turn out all right.
"OK, please proceed."
Steve could hear the smile in his voice.

And he might have to walk away from those he loves…

Read an Excerpt from Book 1: Steel Force

The sounds became louder. Christie resisted the urge to sit up. Eighteen inches long, the stunbrella gave her a four-foot reach. But since the rocks rose a foot and a half above her, even if the man stood a foot away from them she might not be able to angle her arm to strike him.

A whimper was trapped in her throat. She didn’t want to die like this. In the middle of the woods, cold, wet, dirty. Injured like a sick animal. Not even knowing why. All alone.

The noise stopped.

She sensed he was close. From her earlier glimpse she guessed five-foot-eight, one-seventy pounds, mid-forties. Small for a Hawaiian. He might be easy to knock down.

Her choice was to either sit up and try to strike him or remain motionless for him to come closer. Unable to guess which was better, she didn’t move. Her lips twisted when the man’s dark-skinned face appeared above the rocks near her feet. Too far from her motionless arm. As he looked down at her, the barrel of his gun swung into view.
