And now for today's post:

Dear Readers, today my guest is the heroine from my latest release, Kathryn Elizabeth Worthington, from GABE KINCAID, book four of the Kincaid series. I thought you might like to learn more about her, so I’m happy she’s agreed to an interview. She arrives dressed in a dress of gorgeous blue foulard trimmed with white lace. Down the front are ribbon revers forming bretelles that edge a vest made of rows of the lace laid outside the foulard. Sleeves are half-long with a little jabot of lace and a small bow of ribbon set inside the arm. A rosette of matching blue ribbon is in her auburn hair.

Caroline: Ms Worthington, please tell us something about growing up.

Kathryn sits and adjusts her skirts. When she smiles, her green eyes twinkle: Please, call me Katie. I grew up in Savannah, Georgia. My father and mother were both only children, and we lived with my Worthington grandparents. My grandmother died when I was ten, and then my parents died when I was twelve. After that, my grandfather and I were left with only one another. I’m afraid he spoiled me, but I’ve tried not to become self-centered. How I loved our life. We had many friends and traveled up and down the eastern seacoast.

Caroline: What changed that?

Katie smoothes a hand self-consciously down her skirt: When my grandfather died, I witnessed the men responsible. I had to escape them without endangering any of my friends. You see, one of the men was a trusted friend who knew everything about me.

Caroline: That must have been frightening. What did you do?

Katie: I’d never been so scared in my life. In spite of my sorrow over losing my grandfather, I escaped by joining the circus as Dorothy Duncan.

Caroline: That was clever. Do you think your friends believed you’d died?

Katie: Not my best friend, Mary Lou Chitwood. The men who killed my grandfather made it look as if I killed him and fled. I corresponded with Mary Lou. (Katie smiles) She told her parents I was a friend from school traveling the country with her parents. That way she could write to me when I let her know the circus’ scheduled stops.

Caroline:  What did you do with the circus?

Katie: At first I washed dishes in the employee dining room behind the circus tent. That was dreary. Then I mended costumes and made new ones, which I enjoyed. My favorite job was as the fortuneteller, Maharani Shimza, Mystic of the East. That crazy name was the circus owner’s idea and so was the ridiculous turban he had me wear. To make myself look the part, I dyed my hair black. I made a cute costume based on a picture in a book I’d found at a library of a town we stayed in. The book was about India, and showed this lovely garment called a sari.

Caroline: Why was that fun? Can you really tell fortunes?

Katie: Why, yes, I can. You see, when we were at school, Mary Lou and I found a book about reading palms and what all the lines mean. I studied the book and amused my classmates by telling their fortunes. So, when I became the circus fortuneteller, I was able to use that knowledge on the people who bought tickets. Sometimes they were so happy they’d give me a tip, and I got to keep that for myself.

Caroline: Did you enjoy living with the circus?

Katie ponders the question: Not really, even though there were some things I did like. For instance, seeing different parts of the country was interesting. But I missed my home and friends. I liked my roommate, but I hated our cramped quarters. I was afraid the men after me might find me, so I was never really comfortable unless I wore my costume.

Caroline: What happened to end your time with the circus?

Katie smiles mysteriously: You’ll have to read the book to find out. I will tell you that the answer involves a wonderful man named Gabe Kincaid.

Caroline: Why, I do believe you’re blushing. Folks, here’s where you can buy GABE KINCAID, book four of the Kincaids:

Amazon      Nook       Kobo     GooglePlay  and also at Apple iBooks and iTunes.

And if you buy and read GABE KINCAID, please leave a review at Amazon or wherever you bought the book. I'll truly appreciate your effort.

MICHELLE SHARP SHARES DREAM HUNTRESS

Dream Huntress
by Michelle Sharp

**Michelle will be awarding $30 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

BLURB:

Detective Jordan Delany has a gift. Through her dreams, she connects with dead victims of violent crimes. Her isolated life as a drug cop is perfect for hiding the freakish visions, until her newest investigation has her posing as a cocktail waitress in a down-and-dirty strip club. When she’s saved from a drunken customer by a handsome stranger, the heated chemistry is exactly why she intends to keep Mr. Arrogant at bay. But learning he’s the new bouncer for the corrupt club she intends to bust just might be the one reason why she can’t.

Tyler McGee suspects a drug ring operating out of the local club is flooding the streets of his hometown with heroin. Determined to get answers, he plays the part of a fallen cop and lands the job of head bouncer. What he discovers is that the club owner isn’t the only deadly obstacle he’s facing. His attraction to an intriguing cocktail waitress with a penchant for danger just might kill him first.

DREAM HUNTRESS Excerpt:

“I’m Tyler McGee. Everyone calls me Ty. And as far as the nurses are concerned, I’m your big brother.”

“I don’t have a brother.”

He shrugged and smiled. “You do now.”

She eyed him from top to bottom and back up again, deciding it was most likely the killer smile, rather than the lie, that had gained him access to her room.

His grin grew wider. He looked amused at her thorough inspection.

Why had she studied him as though he was the main course at dinner? Her cheeks flushed hot. “Well, Ty, thanks for everything, but I can manage from here.”

Leaning against a countertop, he folded his arms. “Yeah, you’re in great shape. You plan on jogging home with your head injury or just taking it slow and hitchhiking?”

Ah, yes. Now she remembered. He was truly as handsome as the devil but also as cocky. He’d probably only said about ten sentences before she passed out, but if her memory was coming back accurately, most of them were condescending.

“I’ll call a cab,” she snapped.

He chuckled. “In Titus? Sweetheart, where are you from? It sure isn’t around here.”

He strode to the bed then leaned in close as though he was letting her in on a dangerous secret. “In case you haven’t noticed, Titus isn’t exactly a thriving metropolis. We don’t have taxi service or buses. The closest thing to public transportation is Dan the Scooter Man. He makes a fortune driving people home from the bars. You want his number?”

Michelle Sharp, Author

Michelle Sharp is a romantic suspense author from the Midwest. Although she has a degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University, she finds weaving tales of danger, deception, and love much preferable to reporting the cold, hard facts. Her goal in life? To team resilient, kick-ass heroines with the sexy alpha’s who love them. As most writers probably are, she is an avid reader. Her husband and kids would call it obsessive—but whatever. Her first choice is usually a story with a thrilling combination of danger and love, but any book with a great voice and intriguing story will keep her turning pages well past any reasonable bed-time. Her debut novel will be published with Entangled Ignite in summer of 2014. She is a member of Romance Writers of America and Missouri Romance Writers.

PENNY ESTELLE SHARES REVENGE, THE COWBOY WAY

Readers, please welcome Penny Estelle to the blob today. Penny's latest release is REVENGE, THE COWBOY WAY, written as P. A. Estelle, and this book sounds too good to miss. In the meantime, Penny has consented to an interview, so I’ll get right to grilling her.

Caroline: Who are your favorite authors and favorite genres?

Penny: I have always liked the “oldies”.  Rosemary Rogers, Katherine Woodwiss, Joanna Lindsey, but my all time favorite (for now) is Janet Evanovich.  I like romances – contemporary and historical!

Caroline: You chose authors who changed the way romances are viewed and furthered their acceptance. When you’re not writing, what’s your favorite way to relax and recharge?

Penny: I love to go four-wheeling to explore.  I also like to hit the casinos!  I have five children and seven grandchildren.  Family is extremely important to me.  I live about three hours from my kids, sisters, and mom.  I love going to visit!

Caroline: At least you’re within easy driving distance. And when we lived in a rural area, I wished I had a four wheeler. Describe yourself in three or four words.

Penny: “A Good Old Gal”

Caroline: What a fun description. How long have you been writing?

Penny: Writing seriously – about seven years.  The story I’m talking about today was written when I was in my early 20’s (a hundred years ago) I figured I can write these stories.  It took me five years.  When I was done I sent to query letters out and promptly received rejections.  I packed it up and put it in my closet and it has lived there ever since, until I decided to take a look at it forty years later.  It was pathetic writing. LOL! I fixed it up and was thrilled when Rooster and Pig Publishing sent me a contract.

Caroline: Oh, I had one of those stories. Did I ever have to revise that baby when I pulled the manuscript out of the bottom drawer of my hard drive! :-D Where do you prefer to write? Do you need quiet, music, solitude?

Penny: I usually grab a pad of paper and get comfy on the couch.  TV, music or anything else can be going and if I’m on a writing binge, it doesn’t matter.

Caroline: Paper? Wow, I would never get finished, but I know some famous authors use that method. Are you a plotter or a panzer?

Penny: I’m definitely a plotter – though many times my plot falls by the wayside and takes a whole different turn!

Caroline: Well, the plot is just a guideline. We aren’t married to it, are we? Do you do your research before you begin a new project, or as you go along?

Penny: Always, always, always – as I go along!

Caroline: Things always pop up, don’t they? Tell us about your writing schedule. Do you set goals? Do you write daily?

Penny: What is a schedule? LOL   I give myself a pep talk all the time about sticking to a schedule, but it never happens.  I don’t write daily, but I would if I had any discipline!

Caroline: Do you write full time or do you have a day job?

Penny: I’m retired, so I have no excuses about not writing everyday! (Sad Face)

Caroline: I can see I need to nag you each morning. LOL Tell us something about yourself that might surprise readers.

Penny: I live in the middle of nowhere, very rural on wind and solar.  It gets pitch black at night and I am afraid of the dark.

Caroline: Nothing is as dark as a rural area at night, but at least you can see stars. What is something unusual you learned while researching and writing this book?

Penny: My story, REVENGE, THE COWBOY WAY, starts out in New York, but ends up in Texas.  I had to do a lot of research on historical ports in Texas and the towns that are mentioned in the story.  Geography and I were never friends in school, so I needed to research a lot of things!

Caroline: I had trouble with geography, too. I’d never been to any part of Texas but West Texas where my family lived and didn’t comprehend the piney woods, seashore, etc. What do you hope your writing brings to readers?

Penny: I have written a series called The Wickware Sagas about seventh graders who do a little time travel and go back in time to meet historical heroes and legends – For those stories I would hope, kids would learn a little history.  For my other stories for kids and adults, I hope they get some enjoyment and they make them smile.

Caroline: Your YA series sounds like a winner for middle school readers. What a great idea. What advice would you give to unpublished authors?

Penny: There are the lucky authors out there that hit it big right away. (Dang it – I wish I was one of them)  But some of us have to pay our dues, so my advice is enjoy writing.  If it doesn’t give you pleasure – find another line of work or hobby.

Caroline: The best advice evcr, Penny! Tell us about your latest release.

REVENGE, THE COWBOY WAY
Blurb

When Brian Thornton is taken by surprise at gunpoint, while in the bed of a beautiful, wealthy woman, he swears his revenge.  But when he learns his humiliation was at the hands of a young woman and a boy, his vengeance knows no bounds.

Joanna Simmons finds herself snatched out of her home and taken to Thornton's ship.  Against her will, she travels to Texas, and then by wagon train to Bastrop, Brian's home town.  Joanna finds acceptance and genuine friendship with the people of the town, down to Brian's sister, but the emotional war that wages between Brian and Joanna, keeps any kind of happiness at bay.

REVENGE, THE COWBOY WAY, is the story of hate, love and revenge.  The question is whose revenge is it?

Teaser for REVENGE, THE COWBOY WAY

He put his hands on both sides of her head, trapping her and leaning in close, his face inches from hers. “Listen carefully. I don’t give a damn about what you demand. You made the biggest mistake of your life when you chose to rob me, and now you will suffer the consequences of that choice. Now, unless you have other ideas on how to entertain me, you will high-tail it over to that bed and get in it so I can get some sleep.”

His voice was like steel, and Joanna wasted no time doing exactly what she was told. She hadn’t taken two steps before Brian grabbed her arm. “Take that bulky robe off first.” Defiance filled her face, but before she could respond, Brian continued. “Don’t test me. It’s been a long night.”

Hate glittering in her eyes, she untied the sash and took the robe off, throwing it on the floor, leaving a pink-flowered flannel nightgown as her only barrier. She got in the small bed and hugged the wall. The bed was barely big enough for Brian, let alone both of them.

Blowing out the lantern, Brian lay down, reaching for her. She struggled as he scooped her next to him, his arm snug around her waist. Tears of frustration gathered in her eyes as she tried to escape his hold.

“All this squirming around is giving me ideas, Jo.”

Caroline: This story sounds too good to miss. Where can readers find your books?

CHARMAINE ROSS SHARES FOUR-LEAF CLOVER

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions.

Charmaine will be awarding a copy of the book to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

A sexy, sugar-laden David vs Goliath story about a local bakery, a national chain, and what really matters.
Clover Loveday has worked hard to get her café Four-Leaf Clover up and running, her ticket out of an increasingly alarming financial situation and her dream come true. When she literally falls off her ladder into the arms of national bakery chain Upper Crust owner, sexy-as-sin Liam Sinclair, who owns the new bakery being built just across the road, she decides that no matter how nauseated she is about the idea, it is best keep your enemy close, rather than leave things to fate.

Liam has never put too much thought into the competition when he opens a new outlet, other than taking their customers and strengthening the Upper Crust brand. But here in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, Clover Loveday’s cafe is a little too close for comfort, and Clover Loveday a little too good-looking. So Liam asks his PA to put together a Fact Sheet about his new competition. He has a business to run, a father to please, and hundreds of people to keep in jobs. Surely information can keep an unwanted strong sexual pull at bay…

A sexy, caffeinated, satisfying story about unexpected temptations, forgiveness, and putting love before money.

Enjoy an excerpt:

Clover was tired. More tired than usual. Lack of sleep often did that to her, compounding the effects of a physical day. She’d been unable to go to sleep because of a kiss she hadn’t wanted or asked for and still couldn’t seem to push from her mind. Clover checked the bread in the covered bowl she’d set aside that morning. She always liked the smell of raising bread in the morning. Made it more earthy.

It had been a nice kiss, well, a great kiss. She rolled the risen dough onto the floured surface and started kneading. Hell, it had knocked her socks off. Left fist. Exactly what she hadn’t wanted. Right fist. Clover blew a strand of hair from her face. Making dough usually let off steam, but this morning it didn’t have the desired effect.

She rolled the soft dough into a long sausage. The dough would make great lunch rolls. She’d add them to today’s menu. Take the rest to the shelter at finish time. She knew exactly what she wanted to do and where she wanted to be. No diversions.

She’d never got so caught up before. Now the sausage was too thick, so she had to start again. This time less force. She just didn’t need a man in her life, no matter how good he was at kissing. She certainly didn’t need to feel so damn good because of it. She picked up a broad-bladed knife and chopped the sausage into sections. Chop. Chop. Chop. The blade made a satisfactory thump on the cutting board. What was it about Liam that had her all confused about her simple life’s rules?

‘Man trouble?’

‘Huh? Clover looked up to see Holly lounging on the doorframe. Holly looked from the knife in Clover’s hand to the small blobs of dough scattered over the bench. ‘Are you planning to make rolls for dwarves?’

Clover kept in the sound of frustration as she gathered the bits of dough and started kneading. Again.

‘I’m okay. Just couldn’t sleep last night,’ Clover said.

Holly locked her arms over her chest and rested a hip on the bench. ‘Ah-huh. Any reason you want to particularly share?’

‘No reason.’ The kiss wasn’t the problem. It was the fact she’d let him do it. Just stood there, waiting for him to plant his mouth on hers. She hadn’t the will power or the inclination to stop him. And it had been so nice to let him do it to her. So nice to feel desired, wanted. Nice to give in to what she craved. Just for a moment. A nano-second of bliss.

Then reality had stepped in. Knew where a kiss could lead and that she couldn’t let it pull her into its sweet embrace. The nagging weight of responsibility pushed on her shoulders and she had listened, like she always did. Responded by letting him walk back out her door, angry that she had let it happen in the first instance. Besides, she’d be getting into bed with the enemy. She just couldn’t do that.

KAREN BONCELA SHARES HER FASCINATING LIFE

Please help me welcome Karen Boncela to the blog today. Karen has led an interesting life that she's sharing with us today. In addition to writing under her own name, she's worked as a ghostwriter.

Karen Boncela and her books

Caroline: Please tell us something about yourself and your family.

Karen: I grew up in the city of Chicago in a very busy household with 2 brothers and 3 sisters, Dad and Mom. I am child #4. My parents were very strict. My oldest sister paved the way for us younger ones so that by the time I was dating boys, Mom was just a little bit more lenient than she’d been with her first daughter. We fought with each other growing up, as all siblings do. My two older sisters would take my clothes out of my closet and wear them without permission and then put them back and deny ever having done it. They reeked of cigarette smoke... before I started smoking. My younger sister and I shared a room. She was the neat one, I was not. There were a lot of arguments between us. She claims even now that her hair is very thin because I pulled much of it out when we would fight. And my oldest brother?  He was my moms’ favorite. The rest of us would just shake our heads back and forth when she would cater to his every little need and want...and more!

We all had nicknames too. You can look at our picture together and try to guess who’s who, but I’m sworn to secrecy. If I told you, I’d have to kill you, lol. The nicknames were Queenie, Bucky Beaver, Queer, Booger Boy, Tub-o-Lard, and Poomp-de-Bottom. I love having a big family!

Which is Queenie and which Booger Boy?

We are all middle agers now and I feel so blessed to be able to say that my siblings are my best friends. We suffered a huge loss when our mother passed away, way before her time, at the tender age of 51 from cancer. We all grew closer with that experience and have remained that way through the years. We are all scattered now, across 4 of the states and we aren’t in the same place at the same time often, but when we are, it’s like we were never apart. We genuinely like each other. Always there for each other whether it is in person, or a shoulder to cry on, over the phone.

I was married for 32 years to my first husband who I met when I was just a child. I thought that I knew what love was back then. I didn’t have a clue, but I’m from the generation that when you got married, that’s it, you were married for life. That is, until my life with him and the abuse that I endured became unbearable. I finally mustered up the courage to do what I should have, many years before and divorced him. The only good result from that marriage is my children. They are such incredible people. My son is a firefighter/paramedic, my older daughter is a nurse and my younger daughter is a teacher.

I’m such a lucky girl because I am married now to my Knight in Shining Armor, Eddie, who I was blessed to have found while we played Internet Scrabble. Eddie lived in New York all his life and gave up everything there to be here with me in Illinois.

Caroline: Your family sounds wonderful, Karen. Describe yourself in 3 or 4 words.

Karen: Creative, Honest, Romantic, Loving

Karen with her family

Caroline: When you’re not writing, what’s your favorite way to relax and recharge?

Karen: I love to cook for my hubby and my kids. I love my flower and vegetable gardens in the summer. I could go on and on about all the wonderful attributes of fresh basil, from the way it looks and smells in my garden, to the 101 ways that I can use it in food! LOL!

I love spending as much time as I can with my 2 grandchildren. My grandson is 11 and my granddaughter just turned 2. We do a lot of reading together, watching movies, playing outside in the yard. We are expecting a third grandchild in September and hope to have more after that as well!
And I love going on romantic dates with my Eddie. I love my alone time with my hubby.

Caroline: You sound creative and loving. How long have you been writing?

Karen: I’ve been writing for about 5 years now. Before that, I had no idea that I had the ability. During my 32 year marriage, my mind was so muddled with the everyday problems that I had to deal with, that writing was not even a thought in my head.

I was so inspired when I met Eddie in 2008. Our relationship was so romantic; it was like out of a movie. I never knew that love like ours existed. I didn’t want to forget a single detail, so I started writing things down; a journal of sorts. One day I sat down at my computer and started to put the notes all together into story form. I surprised myself when I read back what I was writing and laughed about the possibility of publishing. The more I thought about it, the more compelled I felt to share our Story of love and gratitude.
That story became my first book, WORDS TO LOVE BY.

Caroline: How encouraging for others in a bad situation. Do you plot out your stories and create an outline or do you just write?

Karen: When I wrote WORDS TO LOVE BY, I just wrote. It was my story. It was all in my head. After I’d published that book, I was in the right place at the right time and was asked to write someone else’s story for them. That person is an oral surgeon that my husband had gone to.

ONE FATHERS’ LOVE was my first Ghostwriting job. With this book, I created a storyline of sorts, where I listed everything that had happened in this man’s life, in dealing with his wife, who was Bipolar. I listed everything chronologically and then interviewed him several times to fill in all the blanks. You can read more about my Ghostwriting experience on my Blog.

Caroline: Ghostwriting sounds intriguing and I believe you’re the first ghostwriter to be on the blog. When I worked for a newspaper, I had interviewed a man who made his living ghostwriting. Tell us about your writing schedule. Do you set goals? Do you write daily?

Karen: My writing projects are ALWAYS on my mind, whether I like it or not.  I wake up in the middle of the night frequently with ideas for my next story, and there’s no going back to sleep until I take a couple of minutes to write my ideas down in the memo on my phone. I can’t take a chance on forgetting a great thought.

I’m on my computer every single day. Much of my time is spent social networking, through Facebook and Twitter and my Blog. As a self-published Author, Marketing to get the word out about my books is a daily challenge. I’m always brainstorming my next post or my next giveaway.

I absolutely set goals, yes. I had to with my Ghostwriting job, ONE FATHER’S LOVE. I was obligated through a contract to have this work done for him in a timely manner. His book took me just under one year to complete.

As I write my own books, I will write for several days in a row and then take a break, sometimes just to spend some time with my grandkids and my hubby.

Caroline: Do you write full time or do you have a day job? If you have a day job, what is it?

Karen: It depends on what project I’m working on. I have no full time day job. I’m lucky to be doing several things that I enjoy part time. I am a hairdresser and work out of my home. I am a part time personal chef and cook in my own kitchen doing that.

Writing and creating stories is what I enjoy most.

Caroline: You are creative in several areas. Do you have a favorite quote?

Karen: I do. I love this one. “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away.”

Caroline: Yes, I love that one, too. What’s your most current publication?

Karen: My third book, DARK SECRETS NO MORE just debuted on Amazon in April. It’s the Prequel to my first book. There was such a great emotional response from my readers after they had read WORDS TO LOVE BY, that I felt compelled to tell the whole story to make readers understand why I have such a feeling of gratitude in my life now.

DARK SECRETS NO MORE is my real life story, before Eddie.

Excerpt from DARK SECRETS NO MORE: As I walked through the front door of the hospital and into the lobby, the volunteer at the front desk greeted me with a smile and a question, “Can I help you find your way?”

“No thanks” I said. “I know where I’m going,” which was a funny thing for me to say really, because I felt so lost and alone.

I was so used to pretending that I was okay. I was accustomed to putting on a brave face when in fact, I would have liked to just crawl up into a ball and hide from the reality of my life.

Caroline; Can you give us a blurb from DARK SECRETS NO MORE?

Karen: DARK SECRETS NO MORE is the PREQUEL to my first book, WORDS TO LOVE BY.
For thirty two years my life revolved around my spouse. He demanded no less. I never had the privilege of putting my needs first. According to him, my feelings were insignificant and stupid.
I felt like a hostage for many years with no way out.

DARK SECRETS NO MORE is the story of my journey out of that dark tunnel, which had become my life. It’s the story of the painstaking changes that I made, which led me to my freedom from the shackles of abuse.

So many of my readers have found WORDS TO LOVE BY so helpful and inspirational. Because of that, I felt like I had no choice but to share the whole story.

Once you’ve read DARK SECRETS NO MORE, you will understand why I wake every morning and go to bed every single day with a feeling of gratitude and joy.

Caroline: I can see that your writing would inspire readers who deal with similar problems, but what do you hope your writing brings to readers?

Karen: I’m passionate about spreading the word through my stories that nobody controls the happiness in your life except YOU! No matter what your situation, you can be happy through the choices that you make. Another important message is to take chances in life. Listen to your inner voices. Break out of your comfort zone. You have to try something different, if you want your life to change.

Caroline: That’s a powerful message! Do you have any advice for unpublished authors?

Karen: I do. Anyone can author a book now if you so desire, but it has to be good and it has to appear professional or nobody will respond to your work. Do your research to determine which way is the best way for you to publish.   Spend some money to hire someone to help you develop a polished finished product. And most importantly, edit, edit, and edit some more and when you think that you are done, edit one more time. And then have someone else check it for you again.

Caroline: What’s been the best thing about your writing experience so far?

Karen: When I had my first book signing after WORDS TO LOVE BY debuted, there were a couple of young women who arrived about half an hour early. They were giddy to see me after having read my book. Giddy to see me! Can you imagine??  They wanted pictures with me. They both expressed just how much my book impacted their lives and how happy they were to speak to me. Treated me like some kind of movie star, lol! That’s when it hit me! The reaction that they had to my message was EXACTLY what I’d hoped for when I first DARED to publish! What a feeling! I was ecstatic and that thrill never goes away. It moves me to tears when I read some of the reviews and emails that I get from my readers. It makes all the work worthwhile.

Caroline: So, true, Karen. Where can we find your books?

Karen: You can find all my books at this LINK. Reviews are there as well. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=karen+l+boncela

SASSAFRAS AND SPURS BLOG HOP

Welcome to the Sassafras and Spurs Blog Hop, organized by the ladies at the Stilettos at High Noon Blog. Talk about the Grand Prize at the end of this post. We’re all western writers, so that’s what we’re talking about on this Blog Hop.

I love writing western romance. Although I write contemporary mysteries and romances, my absolute favorite thing in the world is immersing myself in writing a western historical romance. My books are set between 1870 and 1890 in Texas. At least, most of the book takes place in Texas even though a couple of them start elsewhere.

Would I want to live during that time period? No, thank you. I love my appliances, cental air, comfy car, and all the other things we think of as modern. In spite of that, I am fascinated with the Old West.

During that era, people who lived on ranches and farms had to be self-reliant. No corner convenience store for bread and milk, no big box store for supplies, no ER or ambulance, no phone to call 911 in case of trouble. I probably wouldn’t have lasted long back then, but I love reading and writing about that time.

One of these western historical romances is my latest release, GABE KINCAID, book four of the Kincaids, takes place in the latter part of this period.

The locale is a small town in Central Texas, not a ranch. Gabe Kincaid is an attorney, not a cowboy or sheriff. Still, he’s an officer of the court and very interested in justice.

Katie Worthington would be interested in justice if she thought she would ever see it happen. She walked in on two powerful men who’d murdered her grandfather and is on the run from them. To escape, she joined the circus.

MY REVIEW OF HEALED BY A HEART

Destiny in Deadwood Series

MY REVIEW

Liam Anderson lost his heart and his religion when his wife Mary died, leaving him with Hannah and David. His children mean the world to him. He's taking them from their Missouri home and heading west. He's hoping he can run from painful memories. If not, he fears he’ll lose his mind.

The night before he plans to leave, his two younger brothers arrive. Zach barely saved Jake from being captured by troops for allegedly killing his fiancée. The brothers explain that Jake actually shot the man who raped her, but the man who helped the rapist and then shot her escaped. The villain who ran away is an officer at Fort Leavenworth, and Jake and Zach fear for their lives. Without delay, the family loads up and leaves that night for Deadwood in Dakota Territory.

Miss Eleanor Smith is a thirty two year old spinster who assists her father, Reverend Nathaniel Smith, with his ministry. She is no shy shrinking violet, but helps any who need her, including the local soiled doves. During the war, she helped bring peace to dying soldiers. For the twenty-two years since her mother’s death, Ellie and her father have lived in the back of the large tent he uses for church services and they've traveled from place to place. Using the tent as a classroom, she teaches school in the daytime. Ellie believes her chance has passed, yet she still dreams of a house where she can create a real home, complete with husband and children.

Deadwood was supposed to be a fresh start for the Andersons, but trouble followed them. Doesn’t it always? Can Liam resolve his brother's legal problems? Is he destined to raise his children alone? How will the brothers earn their living? I don’t give spoilers in my reviews so I won’t tell you more.

Ms Woolf has created likable characters (except the thoroughly detestable villain) and I enjoyed reading about them. Although this is the second book in her Destiny in Deadwood series, it genuinely stands alone. If you enjoy western historical romance, you’ll enjoy the unfolding story of the Anderson family in HEALED BY A HEART.

*I was furnished a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Release Date: May 2014

Genre: Historical Romance. Western.

All Liam Anderson wanted after the War Between the States, was a little peace. After seventeen years in the army, he’s tired of fighting and killing. Having lost his beloved wife to influenza, he’s tired of hurting. And seeing his baby brother framed for murder, he’s tired of injustice.

He left everything behind to help his brothers escape, packed up his children and possessions, and took them all to a gold claim in Deadwood. Miss Eleanor Smith is a thirty-two year-old spinster. She gave up her dream of a home and family a long time ago. Instead, she has spent her life traveling the world, ministering to the weak, the injured, the poor, and the forgotten, following her preacher father from one hell hole to another.

From what she’s seen of men and the world, she’s better off taking care of herself. And she gets along just fine, until she literally falls into Liam’s arms, gets in the middle of a fight that isn’t hers, and becomes a pawn for an enemy’s revenge.

Deadwood was supposed to be a fresh start for Liam Anderson and his younger brothers, but trouble followed him and his children. And when Eleanor disappears, only Liam can rescue her. The headstrong, independent woman awoke his dead passion, but refused to surrender to his touch. Can he convince her that merely surviving isn’t enough? Despite his sins, he's the only man who can save her, and she's the only woman strong enough to heal his broken heart.

PROLOGUE

April 1876
St. Louis, Missouri

Liam Anderson sat in front of a blazing fire, in his pajamas and robe, puffing on his pipe, reading, for the last time in this house. The place he’d called home for so many years. The kids were asleep upstairs. Sleep had eluded him and he’d risen to read until he got tired.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

He looked up from the book he read and glanced at the mantel clock. One of the few things he hadn’t packed away. “What in the world? Who would be out in this weather at this hour?

”What the hell?” said Liam, when he opened the door to his two younger brothers. “Jake? Zach? What are you two doing here? It’s the middle of the night.”Zach growled from behind Jake. “Are you going to let us in or make us stand in this rain all night?”

“Come in. Zach put that gun away,” said Liam.

“Can’t until the kid here,” he poked Jake in the back with his gun, “is inside and we’ve talked to you."

Jake, the youngest of his brothers, walked into the foyer of the house, followed closely by Zach. He stared down the hallway, packed with luggage and boxes down to the parlor, but didn’t question it. Didn’t even seem to notice that the house was packed up ready to move.

Both of them were haggard, completely worn out. Their coats were soaked through and they couldn’t have been comfortable. He’d never seen them looking so exhausted or…desperate.

“Sorry to do this to you, Liam. I know you’re leaving tomorrow,” said Zach as he holstered his gun and dripped water onto the foyer floor. He threw his had onto one of the steamer trunks. Jake followed suit.

It was times like these that the difference between his brothers was so striking. Zach with his nearly black hair and dark blue eyes. There was one in every generation with the coloring of their Gypsy great grandmother, Zach was theirs and their father had been the one in his generation. It was rare to have two gypsies in the same family, usual it was an uncle or aunt rather than a parent of the latest child with the coloring.

Jake with dark blond, overly long hair and light blue eyes most resembled their dear mother. Liam was somewhere between the two, with light brown hair and gray eyes.

His children were different as night and day, too. Ten year old David resembled Liam not only physically but mentally too. David always seemed to weigh his words before he spoke them. Whereas Hannah, the gypsy of her generation, said whatever came into her little head. She was only five, but even at her age, David had been as contemplative as he was now.

He smiled thinking of his children. They were his joy. His reason for living. He closed his eyes and grounded himself in the present and answered Jake.“Yes. At first light. Now, tell me what’s going on and why you brought Jake here at gun point.”

“Only way I could get him to come,” growled Zach.

“And?” Liam said, exasperated. “Don’t make me beat the story out of you word by word, little brother. Just tell me the problem.”

Liam pointed at the two chairs in front of the fire and then went to the fireplace and stoked the banked coals back to a roaring blaze. He really didn’t need this now, not when he was leaving in the morning. Not when he was so close to putting the old, hurtful memories behind him.

Cynthia Woolf is the author of six historical western romance books and one short story with more books on the way. She was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in the mountains west of Golden. She spent her early years running wild around the mountain side with her friends.

Their closest neighbor was one quarter of a mile away, so her little brother
was her playmate and her best friend. That fierce friendship lasted until his death in 2006.

Cynthia was and is an avid reader. Her mother was a librarian and brought new books home each week. This is where young Cynthia first got the storytelling bug. She wrote her first story at the age of ten. A romance about a little boy she liked at the time.

Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance TAME A WILD HEART, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia’s
father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy not a bounty hunter and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now) not the ranch owner.

Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband Jim and the great friends she's made at CRW for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.
