Can't Stand the Heat

Will Cook For Love #3
Peggy Jaeger

Genre: Contemporary Romance

In Peggy Jaeger’s delectable series, delicious food is just an
appetizer for life’s main course: the kind of love that feeds your soul.
With three successful TV series under her belt, including her cousin
Kandy’s, executive producer Stacy Peters is ready to helm her own
show. But to make that happen, she has to do her network boss one
favor first—spend two months on a ranch in Montana wrangling the
notoriously difficult director of Beef Battles. Apparently, he eats
producers for breakfast. Yet all Stacy can think when she meets the
lean, rugged man is how hungry he makes her . . .
Dominic Stamp—Nikko to his very few friends—has had enough interference
from TV newbies. And when Stacy climbs out of the car in Montana,
he’s not convinced she’s even old enough to drive, much less
produce his show. But he can’t deny that the long-legged blonde
with the stubborn will and the dazzling smile whets his appetite. And
as Stacy proves her talent with the crew and the budget alike, Nikko
vows to prove to her that love is on the menu for both of them . . .

“I wish you’d do that more often,” he said, his hand circling her upper arm as he turned her, slowly, back to face him.
“What? Leave?”
He stared at her a beat, the line between his brows deepening. “Smile.”
Flabbergasted, she stood, rooted.
“More specifically,” he added, “smile at me. You do at everyone else. From Dixon, to his son; the crew. Even Melora. Everyone, but me.”
His grip tightened a little as he pulled her in closer, their torsos almost touching.
“Why? Why can you show everyone else that little piece of yourself, but not me?”
“I…I don’t know how to answer that,” she said. “I know I was thrust on you without you wanting me here. I know you don’t like me, I—“
“That’s not true. I didn’t want to like you,” he admitted. “There’s a difference. You’re a producer. A bottom line watcher. An annoying necessity. Liking you goes against the grain.”
At that she did smile, because she knew it was true.
“See now,” he said, as he slid his other hand up her arm to settle on the back of her neck, fingers curling up into her hair to hold on. “When you do that? When you smile at me like that, so openly, so…freely? I can’t think about anything else.”
A gentle tug and he had her head pillowed in his spread palms as he bent his own down to hers.
Through her glasses she watched the fine whiskey in his eyes blend with the ink of his pupils as they dilated.
“I haven’t been able to think clearly about anything for the past few days.” His mouth was a whisper from hers. His gaze skimmed from her eyes to her mouth and back again in one slow string of heat. “Except for this.”
She thought she’d be prepared for the feel of his lips on hers again. After all, she’d done little else but reminisce about their texture and taste for days. But she was wrong.
So wrong.
Nothing could have ever prepared her for the way the slight pressure he placed on the back of her neck as he brought her closer sent a shiver of such carnal delight down her spine she almost hummed. Or the way his breath, warm and full, felt as it washed over her cheeks. And she certainly wasn’t prepared for the onslaught of emotions he released within her when he quite expertly parted her lips and deepened the kiss, pulling at her very soul.
No, nothing in her life had equipped her with how to deal with Nikko Stamp’s kiss.
So she simply let go of all thought, fear, and concern, and surrendered to it.

The Forgotten Ones
Steena Holmes

Genre: Psychological Thriller

Elle is a survivor. She’s managed to piece together a solid life from a
childhood of broken memories and fairy tales her mom told her to
explain away bad dreams. But weekly visits to her mother still fill
Elle with a paralyzing fear she can’t explain. It’s just another
of so many unanswered questions she grew up with in a family
estranged by silence and secrets.

Elle’s world turns upside down when she receives a deathbed request from her
grandfather, a man she was told had died years ago. Racked by grief,
regrets, and a haunted conscience, he has a tale of his own to tell
Elle: about her mother, an imaginary friend, and two strangers who
came to the house one night and never left.

As Elle’s past unfolds, so does the truth—if she can believe it. She
must face the reasons for her inexplicable dread. As dark as they
are, Elle must listen…before her grandfather’s death buries the
family’s secrets forever.

A Note From Steena Holmes

The Forgotten Ones is a story that poured out of me. Every character in this book felt real to me and I’m going to be honest, there’s a lot of me in each of these characters. I added a lot of personal elements…let me share…
• One of the main characters is named after both my grandfathers…David (my maternal grandfather) and Basil (my paternal grandfather)
• David’s last name: Walker is named after the famous Walker House in Southampton, Ontario where both my mother’s parents (and a few of her siblings I think) worked.
• The story is set in Kincardine – my home town. With Station Beach and a small ice cream stand and a historical lighthouse.
• The hospital where David is dying and where Elle works is where my mom used to work (and I was a candy stripper).
• Bervie is a real town – where I grew up – a tiny little hamlet. David’s house is fashioned after my childhood home (but it’s situated closer to Kincardine that it is in real life…author license and all that…)
• Other than David Basil Walker – all the characters were named by my readers (THANK YOU!)
• I posted a video on Instagram where I was sobbing writing a very important scene.
I really hope you all love this book! It’s a little different than my last few, but not so different that you’ll be tempted to throw it across the room.

Crime Mystery
Date Published: January 2017
A Joey Mancuso, Father O'Brian Crime Mystery, Book One

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Can a priest, his brother, and the brother's girlfriend solve a murder case and see justice done—or will they be the murderer's latest victim?

A Murder on Wall Street takes us inside the world of Captain O'Brian's Irish Pub and Cigar Bar in Manhattan, a legendary hotspot in the Financial District. Investigating the death are pub owners Joey Mancuso, fired from the NYPD for his unorthodox methods, and his brother Father Dominic, who isn't your typical priest. Also investigating is Marcy Martinez, a Cuban bombshell and FBI agent who's Joey's girlfriend. When a customer kills himself after celebrating the night before, the three know something's wrong. Turns out, the customer's death coincides with people losing money, and lots of it—and some of those people are very, very dangerous.

The apparent suicide of a hedge fund executive and the hit and run accident of his assistant leads Mancuso, Father O'Brian, and FBI Special Agent Martinez into the underworld of Wall Street. Money laundering, insider trading, and a Ponzi scheme are but a few of the crimes they uncovered, as they try and piece together this crime-ridden puzzle.

Joey Mancuso spent sixteen years in the NYPD earning his First Grade Detective shield and becoming one of the most successful homicide detectives. His last case, the murder of a homeless person in an alley behind the famed 21 Club, went unsolved. Political pressure undermined the case, as Joey's efforts led him to a congressional candidate and a Wall Street major donor with political juice. His efforts to continue the investigation in spite of the pushback caused his forced retirement from the NYPD. The Internal Affairs Division has sealed his file warning him to cease or else.

Now a half-owner, with his half-brother, Catholic priest, Father Mancuso, of an Irish pub, he continues his quest to solve crimes. Both are private investigators and together with Joey's girlfriend, FBI agent Marcy, set out to bring to justice perpetrators of crimes, law enforcement is ignoring.

Fast-paced, suspenseful and thrilling, A Murder on Wall Street is one case you'll want to solve yourself. But the ending is unexpected, as the puzzle finally comes together in this page-turner you won't want to put down.

on One Fete in the Grave

“Dearly beloved, I want to thank you all, thank ya very much for gathering here today. Earl couldn’t
help falling in love with Virginia and wants to be her forever teddy bear.”

The minister’s intro elicited smiles and chuckles from our little congregation, but his voice was a bit shaky.
Looking more closely, I could see his face was bathed in sweat.

“And the two of them have decided it’s now or never for them to be joined in the noble estate of matrimony,” Steve said, looking unsteady on his feet and gently swaying from side to side. He suddenly stopped and gasped. His face took on a bluish tinge and I thought he might be having a heart attack.
His body seemed to spasm. With another gasp, he fell to the floor.

Dave rushed to the front and knelt down beside Steve. After checking for a pulse, he began to perform CPR and called out for someone to dial 911, and for someone else to check with the desk to see if they had a defibrillator on the premises. Di dialed 911. Larry Joe rushed out of the chapel. And Mama crumpled onto the chair next to me, sobbing.

Taylor rushed into the chapel after Larry Joe had asked her about the defibrillator. She looked down at Steve as Dave valiantly continued with CPR.

She began to sob, her shoulders shuddering, when it seemed apparent he was beyond reviving. Dave continued CPR until the EMTs arrived. He stepped away to let them take charge, then he turned to us and shook his head. I had given my seat to Earl, who had his arm around Mama with her head on his shoulder. Obviously, having the minister drop dead during the ceremony had put a damper on the wedding.

The police had arrived just after the paramedics and had taken a statement from each of us, not that there was much we could tell them. As the cops were taking statements I couldn’t help noticing Crystal, who had previously dated Steve, was shedding no tears. Little Junior, who wasn’t a fan, was surveying his surroundings as if he was studying the sparse decor. I imagined he was thinking there might be an opening for him now as a minister at the Burning Love Chapel. Looking around, I noted that the photographer had apparently slipped out of the chapel at some point during all the hubbub.

The police officer took our contact information and said that an autopsy would have to be performed. But all indications were that Steve had suffered a heart attack.

The paramedics had rolled the deceased out on a gurney and the cop was standing in the doorway to the chapel chatting with Dave.

Taylor may have broken down in tears when she saw Steve lying on the floor, but she composed herself enough to talk business.

She apologized to Mama and Earl and asked if they would like to reschedule.
“I’m sure this has been upsetting, but I know you’re only in town for a limited time. If you want to go ahead with a wedding today, we do have an opening at eleven p.m. tonight in one of the other chapels. Of course, there would be no additional charge for the larger space.”

Mama and Earl looked at Taylor in disbelief. For once my mother was speechless. Earl spoke up.
“Thank you, but I don’t think Virginia and I are in any frame of mind to continue with the wedding tonight.”

“Of course. Just give me a call when you’re ready.”
Taylor started to walk away, but stopped and turned back to face the nearly wedded couple. “Oh, by the way, take the rose arrangements with you, if you like, since you’ve already paid for them.”

I wanted to get up and smack Taylor for her appalling lack of sensitivity. But Little Junior rushed over to Mama and offered to carry the flowers out to the car if she wanted them.

“Sure, hon, if you want to,” Mama said blankly.

I assumed my cousin was just eager to do something nice for Mama and toting flower pots was the best he could come up with. He and Crystal walked to the front to retrieve the floral arrangements. When Little Junior picked up the vase from one of the two pedestals, something shiny tumbled to the floor with a metallic thud.

The cop stopped his droning conversation with Dave midsentence and walked to the front of the chapel to have a look. He pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket and picked up a silver-colored flask. He held it up, examining it more closely, then left the chapel without a word.

We assumed we were free to go. My in-laws got into the Winnebago with Mama and Earl. The rest of us piled into the vintage pink Cadillac. Little Junior got behind the wheel and Crystal sidled up to him. Di climbed in the front seat next to Crystal and Dave got into the backseat.

Larry Joe and I exchanged a puzzled look before sliding onto the backseat, with me in the middle.
The ride back to the hotel felt like a funeral procession.

Tempted by the Viscount
Sofie Darling
Historical Romance

Date: June 27th, 2018

London, April 1825

Lord Jakob Radclyffe left his past behind in the Far East. Or so he thinks
until a ruthless thief surfaces in London, threatening to ruin his
daughter’s reputation. With the clock ticking, Jake needs the
scandalous Lady Olivia Montfort’s connections in the art world to
protect his daughter’s future.

Olivia, too, has a past she’d like to escape. By purchasing her very own
Mayfair townhouse, she’ll be able to start a new life independent
from all men. There’s one problem: she needs a powerful man’s
name to do so. The Viscount St. Alban is the perfect name.

A bargain is struck.

What Olivia doesn’t anticipate is the temptation of the viscount. The
undeniable spark of awareness that races between them undermines her
vow to leave love behind. Soon, she has no choice but to rid her
system of Jake by surrendering to her craving for a single scorching encounter.

But is once enough? Sometimes once only stokes the flame of desire higher
and hotter. And sometimes once is all the heart needs to risk all and
follow a mad passion wherever it may lead.

His feet began a slow prowl forward, steadily erasing the distance between them, inch by deliberate inch. She should feel panicked, or, at least, unsettled, by his purposeful approach. But those feelings refused to take hold. The anxiety and anticipation of seconds ago flared into a single overwhelming sensation: desire, white hot, ravenous.

He drew within a foot of her and stopped. The only sound in the room the jagged in and out of her breath.

So this was what it was to be a wanton? Aching from the nearness of his withheld touch, excruciatingly delicious and exquisitely tortured all at once.

“Why are you here?” she muttered.

“How should I answer that question?” he returned, his voice a low, masculine register that quaked her to her core. His head lowered, lips hovering just above hers for one, two, three rapid heartbeats, his breath a whisper across her lips. “Like this?”

Sofie spent much of her twenties raising two boys and reading every book
she could get her hands on. Once she realized that she was no longer
satisfied with simply reading the books she loved, that she must
write them, too, she decided to finish her degree and embark on a
writing career. Mr. Darling and the boys gave her their wholehearted blessing.

When she’s not writing heroes who make her swoon, she runs a marathon in
a different state every year, visits crumbling medieval castles
whenever she gets a chance, and enjoys a slightly codependent
relationship with her beagle, Bosco.

I'm giving away a $10 Amazon gift card to someone who comments today!

I’m excited to announce that TEXAS RAINBOW, book 2 of the Texas Time Travel Trilogy, is now available at This book was such fun to research because the heroine, Ellie St. Eaves, is a feisty, flirty, flapper who travels from 1921 to 2018. The man who rescues her from the ravine/time portal is Sheriff Bart Knight. What fun to surprise the sheriff who thinks he is a lady’s man. Ellie is an expert at wrapping men around her little finger.  I have to admit this book made me smile.

I planned the release for April 18, which is my dad’s birthday. He always encouraged me to read and to write. His tales of his family’s first years in Texas ignited my interest in Texas history and  nineteenth century history. Sadly, he is no longer living but I’m sure he knows I’ve become a writer.

On May 25, the final of the trilogy, TEXAS STORM will release. Researching it took more time but I am enjoying the book. I hope you will, too.
