by Kristy McCaffrey
Genre: Historical Romance
Captured by Comanche as a child, Molly Hart was assumed dead. Ten years later, Texas Ranger Matt Ryan finds a woman with the same blue eyes.
Ten years have passed since Molly Hart’s ranch was attacked, her folks murdered and she was abducted. Now, at nineteen, she’s finally returning home to North Texas after spending the remainder of her childhood with a tribe of Kwahadi Comanche. What she finds is a deserted home coated with dust and the passage of time, the chilling discovery of her own gravesite, and the presence of a man she thought never to see again.
Matt Ryan is pushed by a restless wind to the broken-down remains of the Hart ranch. Recently recovered from an imprisonment that nearly ended his life, the drive for truth and fairness has all but abandoned him. For ten years he faithfully served the U.S. Army and the Texas Rangers, seeking justice for the brutal murder of a little girl, only to find closure and healing beyond his grasp. Returning to the place where it all began, he’s stunned to encounter a woman with the same blue eyes as the child he can’t put out of his mind.

Hank mentored Cale before a falling out divided them and a mountain lion attack left Cale nearly dead. Rescued by a band of Nednai Apache, his wounds were considered a powerful omen and he was taught the ways of a di-yin, or a medicine man. To locate Hank, Cale must enter the Dragoon Mountains, straddling two worlds that no longer fit. Excerpt
McKenna’s jet-black hair curled along the collar of his
shirt, and a coal-colored stubble had sprouted on his strong jawline. When he
shifted his gaze to her, his eyes put her in mind of molasses. Molly chewed on
her lower lip and glanced away, lest McKenna catch her staring.
Shaking off her fascination, she asked, “How did you meet
Robert?”
“In a poker game.”
Molly gasped. “Robert gambles?”
McKenna chuckled. “You’ve already been to a whorehouse. If
you wanted to remain innocent, you shouldn’t have come to Creede.”
Her backside stiffened. “I’m not naïve to the ways of the
world.”
Another grin lit his face. Her breath caught and her heart
pounded more intensely. She honestly couldn’t look away. She’d read about people
who possessed a charm that swayed the masses and opened doors with merely a
glance, but she’d never met such a person.
What was the word she’d come across? Charisma, that was it.
In this moment, the meaning became crystal clear.
“Whatever you say, Miss Simms. Why did you come to Creede?”
“To visit my brother, of course.”
“You came by yourself all the way from Tucson?”
“My folks believed that Robert would be here to meet me.”
He nodded, his amiable demeanor slipping a bit. She took a
steadying breath to quiet the knot in her stomach that never quite receded. Please be all right, Robert.
“My folks thought that Robert would look after me,” she
added, her voice muffled as rain continued to pound on the roof of the cabin.
“But I assure you that I can look after myself.”
“I don’t doubt that. I’m at your service, nevertheless.”
“For what?”
“Protection.”
He held her gaze, and a frisson of awareness shot through
her. She shifted her eyes to the stove. She hadn’t traveled all this way to
fall for the first rugged buckaroo who crossed her path, charisma or not. She
had more important things to do with her life first.
As a child, Kristy McCaffrey frequently narrated to herself. It soon became apparent that she had an affinity for this writing thing. Raised on a steady diet of sci-fi/fantasy and tales of King Arthur, she transferred this love of mythic storytelling to penning western romances once she decided, at long last, to pay attention to her natural inclinations. Educated as an engineer, she swiftly gave that up to be a stay-at-home mom and aspiring author. She and her husband live in the Arizona desert, where their four children are in varying stages of flying the nest. A great love of travel frequently ends up on her blog, along with attempts at humor. This is often at the expense of her kids, which has led them to proclaim, "We will no longer read your blog, Mom." They also refuse to follow her on Twitter. Kristy believes life should be lived with curiosity, compassion, and gratitude, and one should never be far from the enthusiasm of a dog. She also likes sleeping-in, eating Mexican food, and doing yoga at home in her pajamas.
