THE OUTLAW AND THE SHERIFF

by Caroline Clemmons

My friends Charlene Raddon, has a new book, THE OUTLAW AND THE SHERIFF. I love Charlene's writing--and so do her readers as you can tell by her 5-star ratings.

This series is a bit different in that each has an outlaw bride. Doesn't that sound intriguing? As you can see by the cover below, Charlene designs lovely, eye-catching covers when she wears her other hat, Silver Sage Covers.

Here's the blurb:

In the unforgiving landscapes of the Old West, Jerrellyn Ables confronts the moral quandary of her outlaw family's life when a bank heist leaves her wounded and forgotten by her kin. A twist of fate brings Blade McCreery, a charismatic ranch hand to her doorstep, saving her life and kindling an unexpected romance that challenges Jerrellyn's beliefs.

Determined to right the wrongs committed by her family, Jerrellyn faces peril as she tries to compensate a family they unwittingly harmed. Caught in the act, she's confined by her own blood, trapped between loyalty and her own redemption. Meanwhile, Blade, now the County Sheriff, leads a posse to capture the Ables gang, torn between justice and his burgeoning feelings for Jerrellyn.

As the showdown unfolds, questions loom: Will Jerrellyn escape her family's clutches? Can Blade reconcile his duty with his love for her? Amidst the dust of the Old West a vendetta-driven Pinkerton agent threatens their happiness. Will love prevail, or will Jerrellyn face the consequences of her family's crimes?

You can find the THE OUTLAW AND THE SHERIFF on Amazon at the following link:

Let Charlene tell you a little about herself in her own words:

Believe it or not, I began my fiction career in the third grade when I told my class that a little sister I never had died of a black widow bite. I also wrote books through my teen years, always about a girl whose mother mistreated her by making her wash dishes, sweep the floor... you get the idea. Never finished any of those stories. But the idea of writing a real book and publishing it never occurred to me. It was a particularly vivid dream that drove me to drag out a portable typewriter and go to work on my first novel. In 1990, my second completed book, TENDER TOUCH, brought me a first place win in a writing contest and the following year became a Golden Heart finalist. That won me an agent and a contract from Kensington, who published five of my western historical romance novels. My books have placed or won in other contests as well. FOREVER MINE received a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award nomination. I've always loved the Old West and I believe my novels reflect that emotion through their depth and vibrancy. I am always working on a new story. I hope you try my books and enjoy them. Follow me on my website at https://charleneraddon.com and get a free book.

The Texas Cowboy by Linda Nightingale

Don't forget to enter the giveaway at the end of the post.

The Texas Cowboy

Return to Folly Book 1

by Linda Nightingale

Genre: Contemporary Western Romance

When Ash Colter was twelve, his mother divorced his cattle baron father and whisked him away to raise in her native England. Sixteen years later, when his father dies, he inherits Marathon Ranch. Running a 1,000-acre spread famous for the best Black Angus cattle in the great state of Texas is the biggest challenge he’s ever faced…until he meets a pert, pretty, and sassy ranch hand who seems to have her own agenda for his ranch. Unfortunately, she makes his spurs go jingle-jangle-jingle like no one else ever has!

Trish Owens is a real cowgirl, a loner, and, though she’d never admit it, a little lonely. When the “English Cowboy” appears on the scene, her entire way of life is threatened, not only her job, but her beloved Quarter horses. She’s sure he plans to import his thoroughbred horses from England. Worst of all is the chemistry sizzling between them. He makes feelings she thought long dead awaken.

Can these two unwilling allies set aside their differences to put Marathon Ranch in the Winner’s Circle…and to fall in love?

Trish ignored his joke about taking care of her. “Well, thank you, Miss Whatever-your-name-is.” When she shot him a glance, he saw the sadness in her eyes before jealousy evaporated it like the morning dew. He couldn’t allow Trish to think he’d made love to her last night, knowing Dorothy would arrive today. Or thinking he’d sleep with the other woman tonight. Embarrassed as well as annoyed, he flushed to the roots of his hair. Dorothy leapt into his hesitation, offering Trish a handshake.

“I’m Dorothy Applewhite.” The Duchess stared down from her superior height of five-six. “I arrived with the horses, more or less.”

“I’m Trish. Nice to meet you.” Nothing could sound less like the truth.

He looked from one woman to the other. “Dorothy, how did you happen to arrive minutes after the horses were unloaded?”

His ex-girlfriend winked, squeezing his arm against her breast. “Trev mentioned the name of the transport company. I rang them and, using your stable name, was told the shipment would arrive this week. You’d given me the name of the town. I consulted my travel agent and here I am. I wanted to surprise you. I’ve missed you, Ash-Dahling.”

“Ash-Dahling has been busy managing this big old ranch…” Trish batted big innocent eyes and continued in a honeyed voice, “I imagine, that is.”

Dorothy simply stared at the other woman, probably trying to decide if the cowgirl in a red Marathon shirt and figure-hugging jeans was competition. Not Trish’s usual barn clothes. Had she dressed to impress him? Maybe before the horses were unloaded and the duchess arrived. Now, she only wanted to impress one thing upon him. Go to hell.

Trish cast a meaningful glance at Ash, then attacked her opponent with fine-edged sarcasm. “Your white studded jeans are just the thing for the wild west.”

“Thank you.” Dorothy smoothed a hand down her shapely hip. “I ordered them from an American western wear store just for this trip. The shirt, as well. Do people really wear these small string ties?” She flipped the ends of the Bolo, and Ash almost choked trying not to laugh.

Must be hysteria. This was no laughing matter.

“I don’t personally.” Trish leaned closer, pretending to admire the pearl snaps on Dorothy’s western shirt. “Yeah, really nice.”

“I haven’t seen a lot of people—in fact, not even one—wearing a Bolo.” Ash shoved his hands into his pockets. He felt naked, exposed, and a feeling he hated–vulnerable. “Maybe Sunday for church.”

“Church?” Trish barked a laugh.

Frowning, he suggested, “A country and western bar?”

“I prefer dives, sir. Country music, with or without a worn flag painted on the floor, lots of beer, and the Texas two-step.” Trish was no longer laughing, nor did she look very sassy. Was she angry enough to cry…or hurt enough to be angry?

“You two don’t get in an argument about my little tie. You may have it if you like.” His former girlfriend slid a possessive hand around his elbow. “I have Ash here. Dear, my bags are in the boot. Will you ask someone to take them to your room?”

Ash squared his shoulders. “I’ll ask Danita to prepare a guest room.”

“Are you still redecorating the Master Bedroom?” Trish was digging his grave deeper with a guileless smile.

She did not mean the redecorating question to be helpful, but he could turn it around on her. Though after the funeral, he’d moved into the Master Suite, he’d been too busy to make many changes. Marathon was a jealous lover.

“I am.” He looked from one to the other. “Still redecorating.”

The two women frowned. Each one affixed her chilly gaze to him.

Ash wanted to squirm, but a good rabbit knows that any movement only incites the hawk. “Let’s get you settled. Trish, if you need anything, call me. As I said, you’re very welcome to stay here.” Please.

“Will do, Ash.” Trish placed warm emphasis on his name, but the look she leveled at him gave him frostbite.

ORPHAN TRAIN BRIDES #newrelease

Do you have a special friend you met online? Jacquie Rogers and I met online and have since met in person several times. She is a fun person and bright as a new penny. Plus, her husband and mine actually share interests and talk to one another.

Occasionally Jacquie and I have collaborated on projects. We wrote about sisters for Kirsten Osbourne’s American Mail-Order Brides. Jacquie’s was MERCY, BRIDE OF IDAHO, and mine was PATIENCE, BRIDE OF WASHINGTON. We collaborated on a duet featuring sisters, MAIL-ORDER TANGLE, for which I wrote MAIL-ORDER PROMISE and Jacquie wrote MAIL-ORDER RUCKUS. (Trust me, there’s a ruckus wherever Jacquie goes.) We’ve done it again with ORPHAN TRAIN BRIDES.

We don’t mean children from the orphan train are brides. Women who were adopted from the orphan train years ago must become brides.

Here’s the blurb:

Become a bride or lose her children!

Merry and Polly Bird jump at the opportunity when they’re asked to help record who takes which children from the orphan train in their town. Determined to liberate five quirky, ragtag orphans not likely to be adopted by caring people, the sisters vow the children will not end up as they had fourteen years ago. Back then, Merry and Polly and the two boys adopted with them from that orphan train worked as slaves and suffered in ragged clothes, horrible living conditions, and with meager and unappetizing food.

Mary and Polly’s children love their new home and family at the sisters’ Mockingbird boarding house. The rescue idea appears to have been a great success—until the supervisor from the Children’s Protection Society arrives. Single women are not allowed to adopt. Merry and Polly each has five days to find a suitable husband who won’t steal her share of the boarding house.

Two award winning and bestselling authors conspired to bring readers these two heartwarming stories, A FAMILY FOR MERRY by Caroline Clemmons and A FAMILY FOR POLLY by Jacquie Rogers in the sweet duet, ORPHAN TRAIN BRIDES. In addition to this release about sisters, the authors have in their future projects a duet about the two brothers, Bart and Newton Bird.

Here's an excerpt from A FAMILY FOR MERRY. When the sisters and their adoptees meet Blake on the street, Abby invites him to come with them to Bea's sweet shop:

Blake stepped to the counter. “We’ll have sarsaparillas and cupcakes all around.”

Abby clapped her hands. “Did you hear, Tammie? We get sar’prilla and a cupcake.”

Polly protested, “Mr. Woolfe, surely you don’t intend to treat all of us.”

“My pleasure, ladies and gentlemen.” He paid Bea and then gave a slight bow. After he delivered two of the drinks he went back to the counter for more.

Merry sat and pulled Tammie onto her lap. Abigail and Calvin joined her. Polly and her two sat at the next table.

When Bea and Mr. Woolfe had delivered all of the drinks and cupcakes, he sat at the table beside Calvin. “You don’t mind if I sit beside you do you, Calvin? We men have to stick together.”

Calvin sat up a little taller and almost smiled. “Yeah, we men have to stick together ’cause we’re outnumbered.”

Mr. Woolfe saluted Noah with his glass. “Isn’t that right, Noah?”

Noah grinned and raised his drink as Mr. Woolfe had done. Although Noah still hadn’t spoken, seeing him smile was a relief.

The lawyer carried on a conversation with the children but sent her glances that left her puzzled. He was usually gruff yet he was quite kind to the children.

Merry simply couldn’t figure out Blake Woolfe.

(***The two novellas in ORPHAN TRAIN BRIDES are expanded from previous inclusion in the anthology, UNDER A MULBERRY MOON.)

What else is going on? So glad you asked—you have a chance to win prizes! There are parties to celebrate the release of ORPHAN TRAIN BRIDES.
The first is on my Facebook group, Caroline’s Cuties, all day on the July 19th release day. Prizes will be Amazon gift cards and e-books.

But wait—there’s more!

HALLOWEEN IS MURDER!

Beware of all that goes bump in the night…Sean and Sara McKinley are excited about the haunted house they’ve set up as a Halloween charity fund-raiser, but things take a ghoulish turn when the reporter covering their story is found dead. With the media keeping mum about how she died, Sara’s curiosity is piqued, and she convinces Sean to take on the investigation through their PI firm.

But this case is not without its challenges. The police are actively investigating it, as well, and it’s not even clear that the woman was murdered. It will take a little cloak-and-dagger, dress-up, and finesse for the McKinleys to get to the bottom of it, but they aren’t the kind to give up.

As they troll for leads and work through the skeletons in the reporter’s closet, they unearth a few suspects, but they’ll need to carve out the whole truth if they’re going to find her killer. If they do so fast enough, there might even be time for a little trick-or-treating.

GRANT ME THE MOON IS NOW A SINGLE TITLE!

A word of caution. I wouldn't want you to buy GRANT ME THE MOON twice. If you read the contemporary western romance box set COME LOVE A COWBOY, then you’ve read GRANT ME THE MOON. I pulled my book from that set so I could release it as a single title because I am currently working on a sequel, CAPTURE A STAR. Both are set in and near Post, Texas.

Hero and I grew up in Lubbock, Texas, which is forty miles or so from Post. After we married, we drove from where we lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to Lubbock and back to visit family a million, gazillion times.  Maybe not that many, but that’s what it seemed. We went so often we knew when ranchers or farmers painted the barn or got a new pickup truck.

my photo
On the way, we passed through Post, founded by the cereal magnate Charles William Post, at the foot of the Caprock escarpment. Post bought 250,000 acres to start an experimental colony. This included a number of ranches. He fenced off the land in 160-acre tracts, laid out a townsite, built houses, and in other ways worked to attract settlers. In 1907 Garza County was formally organized and Post City designated as county seat. The name was later shortened to Post.

Someone holding a Clovis point

Evidences of early man found in Garza County include Clovis points (spearheads) like the one pictured above. In 1934, archeologists also discovered the 16-foot-long tusk of a prehistoric imperial mammoth. A type of arrow point used by hunters before 1500 AD was uncovered in the county during the 1960s and named the Garza point (shown below). The site is called the Garza Site and is on private land so we couldn't visit for a tour.

Garza Point

Nevertheless, Hero and I always wished we could visit the Garza Site. We are amateur archeology fans and have enjoyed visiting places like Chaco Canyon, Hovenweep, and Mesa Verde. Since we couldn’t visit the Garza Site, I invented one on a nearby ranch. Writing fiction is so great!

I don’t know why Post captured my imagination, but it did. The thought of C. W. Post’s Utopian community in dusty West Texas both tickles and puzzles me. Post remains very nice even though it is not exactly what Post visualized. The area has a particular desert beauty, although it is primarily ranch land. A branch of the Brazos River passes through the county. Cotton and hay are grown in Garza County, but I believe most cotton is grown above the Caprock. Oil wells dot the ranchland and wind farms spread along the edge of the Caprock.

Photo from Google Commons

Our parents are no longer living so we don’t drive through there very often now but my fascination with Garza County hasn’t diminished. Perhaps that’s why Post seemed the perfect setting for GRANT ME THE MOON, available for 99 cents for a limited time. This is book two of the Texas Caprock Series. Book three, CAPTURE A STAR, will be released in a couple of months.

Allow me to share some of GRANT ME THE MOON. Here’s the blurb:

All Tory Fraser intended was to show her high school history club students a local archeology dig. How could she know the excursion would involve a murder? Or that one of her students would be suspected as the killer? And she had no idea she would meet the man of her dreams.

Grant Grayson has taken over management of Grayson Ranch near Post, Texas to give his grandfather a less arduous schedule. A flash flood washed away an old talus slope on the ranch to reveal a prehistoric cave that is a Clovis site. Being a good citizen, he invited the nearest large university archaeology department to excavate the cave. When a gorgeous blonde high school teacher asks his permission to take her students to the site, how can he deny her? Especially when he is instantly attracted to her as he’s never been to anyone.

Tory and Grant are drawn into the investigation to clear her student but unintentionally make themselves a target.

Now I’ll share an excerpt from GRANT ME THE MOON:

This evening, she’d traded her business suit for a blue sundress and left her golden hair down, which he liked much better than the bun-like twisty thing she’d worn this afternoon. Instead of the killer heels she’d worn earlier in the day, she wore low-slung white sandals.
The forty-mile drive to Lubbock passed quickly with talk of archaeology and travel to ancient ruins.
As they entered the city, he asked, “Do you have a food preference?”
She wrinkled her nose. “I don’t want liver or Brussels sprouts. Anything else is fine.”
A laugh erupted from deep inside him. “I don’t like liver either. How about a steak house with a variety of food?”
“Your call, Grant, because I’m not familiar with what’s available. I’ve been reclusive this year. Except for school functions, I’ve spent evenings and weekends with Grandma.”
He chose a restaurant on 82nd Street and pulled into the parking lot. “Monday evenings are not especially busy, so we shouldn’t have trouble getting seated.”
He guided her inside and they were shown to a table.
After they’d placed their orders, he asked, “Your grandmother, is she all right?”
“Grandpa died last spring. She’s not ill, just frail and deeply in mourning. I was lucky there was an opening in the school.”
“Where did you teach before?”
She offered a wry smile, almost as if embarrassed. “Assistant professor at Texas A&M.” She shrugged and tilted her head. “I realize it appears I took a backwards step, but I was the one who could rearrange my life to move here. Fortunately, I genuinely enjoy teaching high school history.”
“So your grandmother is sad rather than ill. Does she get around well?”
She raised her eyebrows and nodded. “In fact, she can keep up with me. After Grandpa passed away, she was so heartbroken that we were afraid her health was deteriorating. Actually, it was. She wasn’t eating properly and not sleeping well. Or, she was staying up most of the night and sleeping most of the day. With me here, she keeps regular hours and we have breakfast and supper together.”
He reached across the table and laced his fingers with hers. “But not tonight.”
She met his gaze and smiled before she slid her hand to her lap. Disappointment claimed him at the loss of her touch.
“I stopped by the store on my way home and bought her a chicken pot pie in a brand that’s healthy. I only hope she’s doing as I asked and having that and a salad for dinner.”
After they’d eaten, he drove under the speed limit on the way back to Post. Her company fascinated him and he wished he could prolong the evening. When they reached the edge of the Caprock above Post, he pulled over at a wide space on the shoulder and opened the sunroof.
“I love this spot. You can see the lights of our little town below and the stars above.”
She relaxed against the seat and head rest. “The almost full moon tonight obscures many of the stars. This is a beautiful vantage point, though. As if we’re divine and are hanging above the world. I could almost reach out and touch the moon.”
He reached for her hand and entwined their fingers “Should I grab it for you?”
She offered a whimsical smile. “Let’s leave it there so everyone can enjoy the moonlight.”

NEW RELEASE, MURDOCH'S BRIDE

Giveaway at end of post.

Dashing through the snow….

Thursday was the release of MURDOCH’S BRIDE, which is set in Montana in February. Snow plays a large part in the book. In fact, a blizzard isolates people at Murdoch Ranch.

How do you feel about snow? Because I live in an area that seldom receives crippling winter conditions, I like snow. Of course, full-time authors don’t have to commute to work. Here I sit in my office I call my pink cave, which opens off the master bedroom. I don’t have to stress over my work wardrobe and can wear my pajamas to work if I wish. Like now, but I that respiratory crud that's making the rounds.

However, when writing MURDOCH’S BRIDE, I stayed cold. All those words about the weather and visualizing the conditions on Murdoch Ranch kept me off balance. I’d write and be engulfed by cold. When I came out of my pink cave, I was surprised there was no snow and that the house was nice and warm. Authors are odd ducks who become immersed in their fictional worlds.

Here’s the blurb for MURDOCH’S BRIDE.

Stranded in the snow…

Charity Kelso is accompanying her fussy Aunt Edith from New York to Oregon when their train is wrecked and the passenger cars burn. Sweetwater Springs doesn’t have a hotel, so passengers are parceled out to townsfolk’s homes. No one wants anything to do with complaining Aunt Edith. That also leaves Charity and their newly widowed friend Amelia nowhere to stay until the tracks are repaired. A new blizzard is headed their way, so what are they to do?

Logan Murdoch and his brother came to Sweetwater Springs to restock before the next storm arrives. Against his better judgment, Logan lets the sheriff convince him to take three so-called innocent women to Murdoch Ranch. Other than their housekeeper-cook, a woman hasn’t set foot in the Murdoch home in the twenty years since his mother abandoned them. He doesn’t expect his father to welcome these unwanted visitors.

Both Charity and Logan are surprised at the events that unfold. How could this have happened?

Do you like the cover? The reason I chose those models is because the woman looks so happy. Of course, that’s how Charity appears at the end of the book.

Here’s an excerpt of the first kiss:

The Murdoch men came inside as Charity came down the stairs from fetching a clean handkerchief for her aunt.
Logan said, “Ornery old cow.”
Charity gave Edwina her hanky and stomped toward him. “Mr. Logan, may I speak to you privately?”
Surprise showed on his face. “Uh, sure. Guess we can go into the office.”
He led the way to a room she hadn’t seen, obviously where the ranch records were kept. “Will this do, Miss Kelso?”
She closed the door behind them. “Logan Murdoch, you have your nerve calling my aunt names. For your information, she’s had a horrible life and no one, not her selfish parents, not her cheating husband, not even her son ever loved her. And, that includes my father, who’s her younger brother.”
He stood looking poleaxed. “I never said—”
She stabbed at his chest with her forefinger. “I heard what you said. You called her an ornery old cow. She may be difficult sometimes, but if you knew everything about her you’d understand and be patient and forgiving. You can make fun of me all you want, emphasizing that I’m Miss and not Mrs., but you treat her with the respect someone her age deserves.”
He moved her hand away from his chest and leaned into her face. “You might try practicing some of the charity you’re named for and at least give me a chance to defend myself. I was talking about our cow. In case you haven’t noticed, I have milk all over my legs and boots because she knocked against the pail.”
Heat rushed to Charity’s cheeks. She stepped back. “Oh.”
He stood with his hands on his hips. “That’s a good comeback, Miss Kelso.”
She sensed a blush’s heat spreading across her face and neck. “Once again, I must ask your pardon.”
“When you’re angry, sparks fly from those big blue eyes. Reckon I’m lucky I wasn’t set on fire.” He closed the short distance between them and he brushed a hand gently along her cheek.
She knew he was going to kiss her but stood frozen in place. He tilted her head up to meet his and pressed his lips on hers. She thought he would withdraw then, but his arms were around her, pulling her closer. As if they had minds of their own, her arms encircled him.
When they broke apart, he stared at her with a horrified expression. “Damn.”
With the realization she’d cooperated in the kiss and even enjoyed it, horror shot through her. “My stars.”
She took a deep breath and left the office.

THE NEW WILD WESTERN WOMEN IS HERE!

The WILD WESTERN WOMEN are at it again! The winter holidays find them in Mistletoe, Montana and a bit inconvenienced because of a blizzard—make that a series of blizzards and a measles epidemic. How do they manage? You’ll have to read the books to find out! WILD WESTERN WOMEN MISTLETOE, MONTANA's  link is: https://amzn.com/B01M6BD4TB

Novellas included are:

MISTLETOE MISTAKE by Caroline Clemmons – When the sheriff sent for a town doctor, he didn’t expect a woman.

MISTLETOE SCANDAL by Sylvia McDaniel – A city girl, a cowboy, and a dog trapped together in a blizzard discover Christmas wishes can come true.

MISTLETOE AND MOONBEAMS by Merry Farmer – He stopped at her saloon to rest but they ended up trapped alone together for a week!

MAIL-ORDER MERRY by Kirsten Osbourne – He wanted an independent wife, but he wasn’t so sure he wanted her to come with two young children and a nurse!

I haven't read all of them yet, but I sighed with pleasure when I read MISTLETOE AND MOONBEAMS by Merry Farmer.  I got carried away with too many people involved in the measles epidemic in MISTLETOE MISTAKE, but I still enjoyed the story. You can bet I'll read the other two stories now that the box set is released.

MARY JO PUTNEY'S NEW RELEASE -- ONCE A SOLDIER

Once a Soldier
by Mary Jo Putney

GENRE:  Historical Romance

ONCE A SOLDIER Blurb:

ROGUES REDEEMED

As heir to a title and great wealth, Will Masterson should have stayed home and tended his responsibilities. Instead he went to war. Now, after perilous years fighting the French, he intends his current mission to be his last. But all his plans are forgotten when he arrives in the small mountain stronghold of San Gabriel and meets her.

Knowing herself to be too tall, strong, and unconventional to appeal to a man, Athena Markham has always gloried in her independence. But for the first time in her life, she finds a man who might be her match.

Two of a kind, too brave for their own good, Athena and Will vow to do whatever it takes to vanquish San Gabriel’s enemies. For neither will back down from death, and only together can they find happiness and a love deeper than any they'd dared imagine...

 ONCE A SOLDIER Excerpt:

She stared at him, feeling as if time had stopped. She was sharply aware of the sweeping valley and mild breeze, the sunshine warming them both, his tanned complexion.

The bleak impossibility of what he was saying. “Forgive me if I’m misunderstanding, but are you actually proposing courtship?”

“Indeed I am. A courtship of two wary but wise adults.” He hesitated before continuing, “It’s possible I am too old and jaded to ever be fit for marriage again.”

“You’re not that old,” she said firmly.

He smiled a little. “Perhaps not. But I have seen too much of the world and made too many mistakes.”

“I often feel the same,” she said. “Perhaps that is why I interest you?”

“Very likely. I have trouble imagining myself making conversation with the typical well-bred young lady back in England.”

“No more than I could converse with an English country gentleman, the sort who cherishes delicate females,” she said wryly. “Which is one of several reasons I’ve sworn never to marry.”

“‘Never’ is a very long time. We change with age. Things that seemed implausible can come to seem desirable.”

“True in theory, but I’m settling happily into eccentric spinsterhood,” she retorted. “I doubt I’d change my mind.”

“But you do concede the possibility of changing your mind.” He smiled. “I can work with that.”

She couldn’t resist smiling back. “You’re very persistent, Will. But you haven’t much time to change my mind.”

“True,” he said thoughtfully. “Are you willing to experiment? My brother’s wife is full of interesting thoughts and theories. She said that courting couples meet under such artificial circumstances and see so little of each other that it’s far too easy to choose one’s life partner very badly.”

MY DOUBLE RELEASES THIS MONTH!

Dear Friends, I have two new releases to tempt you (I hope!).

CASSANDRA, is Bride Brigade Book 3, is up for preorder now but goes on sale tomorrow! I’m so excited about this book. Who am I kidding? I’m always excited about a new release. J If you’ve read books 1 and 2, you know that there were no single young women in Tarnation, Texas and men were leaving or threatening to do so. Young widow Lydia Harrison went back East and brought seven young women home to Tarnation. So far, Josephine and Angeline have found their soul mates and married. Each of these women leaves behind unique circumstances. My job is to help each find the perfect husband for her.

Here’s the synopsis for CASSANDRA:

A desperate plan…
A masquerade to achieve a goal…
Lies that create a confusing web…

Cassandra Bradford has the cast off wardrobe to pose as a lady. Her goal is to marry a wealthy man who can provide her young brother with a sound future. Drat the luck! The first man she sees in Tarnation is a dusty cowboy who sends her heart pounding. No, he’s not the one for her. She has a better life in mind.

Samuel Drummond is one of the wealthiest ranchers in that part of the state, but he wants that kept quiet. His first wife married him for his money then left when she became bored with ranch life. He won’t let that happen again. He intends to find a woman who wants him no matter how poor she thinks he is.

When both Cassandra and Sam learn omissions the other has made, there are fireworks between them. They must work through their anger and hurt to achieve happiness.

Another release is WILD WESTERN WOMEN SPRING INTO LOVE. Callie Hutton, Kirsten Osbourne, Merry Farmer, Sylvia McDaniel, and I once again banded together to produce a box set for $ .99. My entry in the set is LONG WAY HOME, so be warned that this has been out as a single novella. However, I hope saying I love this story is not immodest. It was loosely inspired by family history.

Kirsten Osbourne - MAIL ORDER MINX

When Millie's friend, Berta, elopes instead of fulfilling her obligation to be a mail-order bride, she decides to take her friend's place and be the best mail-order bride a man has ever seen. Of course, she can't exactly cook, and she enjoys meddling in other people's lives under the guise of "helping them," but surely her future husband won't mind that.

Connor waits excitedly for his Berta to get off the train in Idaho, knowing that she is the answer to his prayers. She's an excellent cook and a hard worker, just what he needs for his restaurant. He's confused when Millie gets off the train in her place, but he accepts the switch good-naturedly. His bride has married someone else, after all. What could possibly go wrong?

Callie Hutton - PRISONERS OF LOVE: ADELAIDE

Dodge City, Kansas 1877. Adelaide Markham is one of four female prisoners sitting in Dodge City Jail. The sheriff offers them a choice. Either sit in jail until the circuit judge sobers up enough to hear their cases, or get on the wagon train traveling to Santa Fe as mail-order brides.

A recent widow who just lost her child, adelaide prefers marriage to jail, but wants no part of motherhood. The pain is too great.

Miles Ryan has been threatened by the wagon train master that he and his two recalcitrant daughters will be left behind at Fort Dodge if he doesn't find a wife to control the girls.

Miles takes one look at Adelaide and decides she's for him. Unfortunately, it's not until the deed is done that she learns she is a mother once again.

Caroline Clemmons - LONG WAY HOME

Parmelia Bailey has promised to keep her family safe until the men in her family return from War. That includes bringing her brother's fiancée, Sara Hardeman, and Sarahs mother and sisters to stay at her grandmother's home in town. Mmm, maybe she shouldn't have stolen back her horses from the Yankees, but she could think of no other way to rescue the Hardeman women.

Darrick McDonald waited four years to return to Witherspoon and to Parmelia. Who would have dreamed war would bring him back. He has to protect Parmelia from a renegade who's vowed to make her sorry she turned town his proposal. Darrick prayed he wasn't too late.

Sylvia McDaniel - BELLA: SCANDALOUS SUFFRAGETTES OF THE WEST

Love versus ambition!

Bella Francis is an heiress on the run from a father who wants to marry her to a wealthy young man of his choosing. So, she follows her friend and fellow suffragette to a western town in Texas. But she loves to bake and when she wins a baking contest, pursues starting her own bakery. She finds the perfect space, but the man who owns the building not only sparks her interest but refuses to lease to her.

Luca Ruffini has a buyer for the family bakery and is in the process of selling the building to pursue his own dreams. His father, who doesn't want to sell the building, insists Luca put his plans on hold for six weeks to give Bella a chance to fulfill her passion for baking. Yet, Bella is a temptation he finds himself unable to deny.

In the end, whose dream will be fulfilled or will someone have to concede? Who will give up their dream for love?

Merry Farmer - CORVA: THE PERFECT BRIDE

For Corva Collier, life as a mail-order bride in the quirky town of Haskell, Wyoming is her last chance for escapes. She longs for a peaceful life away from the darkness of her past where she can create the paintings that are close to her heart and where she hopes she can grow to love her husband.

Franklin Haskell never planned to marry. What woman would want a man who was crippled due to his own arrogance? But when he is offered the chance to help a woman in crisis, he agrees to wed. Corva is so much more than he expected, and when a baseball game gives her the chance to shine, he loses his heart.
